A beautiful and compelling paean to the thrill of speed and the joy of simplicity. Load up your favorite trance playlist and revel in the experience. Relaxing and challenging at the same time just a fantastic experience, honestly. Highly recommend a controller so you can just lean back and enjoy.

It's a little unclear to me even today how exactly level progression works or if it's just an "endless" kind of deal, but regardless it's really really great, and even though it would be good enough on it's own you can even unlock customization options and try custom courses made by other players or make your own!

    Anyway, really great little game.

Okay before I get started writing a positive review, I doubt the person who wrote the description of this game know the title well. This bares little to no relation to Starfox. This is a "reflex puzzle" type obstacle-dodging game with the endless run kind of model. This may sound crude and simple, but Race the Sun totally comes out victorious in two respects:

First I've only played a few fully enjoyable titles like this - most of the time you risk stumbling upon shovelware with this kind of game - and Race the Sun is an impeccable implementation of the genre on each and every aspect of its gameplay! It'll get your full undivided attention and give you many, many "whew" moments right off the bat.

Secondly this game could've gone bad with its design style. You'll often see artists try the simplistic approach only get bland results instead of just simplicity. Race the Sun nailed their simplistic design, using modern graphics capabilities like post processing effects and lighting to clearly show a simplistic design really does not have to be bland for one bit!

At the price they sell it it's a no brainer. It's a casual play so you can add it to your library even if you're currently going through other bigger titles. This is a nice side-game to have to fill in those voids where you need a break from the massive large-story type gaming.

Best played in short bursts, Race the sun is a very satisfying game. The map layout for each stage is changed every 24 hours offering a new challenge daily.

It's pretty a basic and minimalistic style racer that surprisingly delivers instant fun. It's a game that's not worth more than 5€, imho you should probably pick it up on steam/gog sale. The great thing about it is that you can upgrade your ship and the scenery/map changes every 24h. There are also lots of custom maps submitted by the community and readily available to play on.

I liked Race the Sun at first. It has a good concept, just awful execution. You "progress" through the game by getting level upgrades, done so by completing challenges. These challenges are mostly just frustrating (ex: having to only turn left for 2 rounds in 1 run). I ended up having no fun in the experience.

This game is too hard, for me. And it's really unforgiving, if you wipe out once you start all the way over from the very start of the game on level 13 if you die you back to level one. WTF is up with that whats up with some lives for gods sake. I kind of wish I would have been able to try it before I bought it.

    Camino sinuoso

    Race the Sun indie

Even the second level (few minutes in) throws a lot of tough obstacles at the player. I didn't enjoy it. It could have been as smooth and addictive as Super Hexagon, but restarting involves some loading and the levels have stretches of little stimulation. Not a bad game but it gets old very fast.
Maybe I'm not the type of gamer who have fun memorize every obstacle in a level to get the top score.
    More variation would be nice.

clearing these challenges will progress the level of your ship...
as you progress your level you unlock new drops to help you get further as well as ship perks,,
This helps with the one more try mentality you need in an endless runner..
Especially since this is all that the game is...
The world isn’t too interesting and that’s mostly due to the fact that is changes every 24 hours…
but it’s still thrilling trying to find the right path in a region, remembering where you messed up and trying to overcome these obstacles next time…
as there definitely are some wrong paths with impossible obstacles unless you have a specific pick up with you…
this can make the game feel a bit cheap, frustrating and unfair..
a smack in the face like your perseverance meant nothing when you get into a situation you have no control in…
This ultimately hurt my overall experience of what otherwise is a fairly enjoyable quick break kind of game..
    There’s not much depth here…
complete challenges, stay out of the shadows, and race the sun.
    I give race the sun

This game could have been a straight forward survival game were all you had to do was dodge objects and see how long you could survive. Instead the developers added an excellent mission system to challenge the player to explore and try new things. The natural growth of your skills combined with a thoughtful quest system makes this a very rewarding experience.

The title says it all in this game. As you fly towards the sun you must avoid the different objects lie in your way. The father you go the more difficult this becomes; columns with fall over to block your path, balls will rolls into your way, and at times you'll be bottle necked into a tight space. Not only that but you must keep in the sun light to power your glider. The sun will slow fall on its own but if you stay in the shade of the objects for too long your battery will start to die and sun will fall much faster than normal. You'll be motivated to explore to collect Tris to gradually increase your multiplier which is necessary for getting a high-score.

Thankfully, you have power-ups and attachments that will help on your journey. A yellow boost will both increase your speed while simultaneously raising the sun. The green power-up lets you jump over obstacles were as the purple power-up shields you from a fatal collision. Over time you'll unlock and level up attachments, some of which let you hold onto multiple power-ups. Other attachments let you survive longer in the shadows or increase your ability to turn your ship faster.

The attachments along with other perks are unlock though the mission system. At all times there are three tiers of progressively challenging missions. The first tier is usually so easy its just a matter of time before completing the quest. The other two tier offers more challenging tasks you'll have to go out of your way for. These goals range from doing multiple double jumps, flying through multiple zones with no collisions, or building up a really big multiplier. When you complete a quest you get experience points based on how difficult the challenge is. Build up enough experience to level up and receive a reward for your hard work.

You really feel a wonderful sense of progression playing this game. Overtime you'll get used to certain obstacles and become more confident with the super tight controls. Everyday offers a new procedurally generated level. As soon as you begin to memorize and master one world the next day offers a different layout. This is great mechanic that keeps the players on their toes while making for an excellent competitive game where you can compete with friends on a daily basis. For everything this game offers it does a superb job. Anyone looking for a fun game they can really sink their teeth into I highly recommend Race the Sun.

Race the Sun is probably the only well-known Endless Runner that outlived this genre's short popularity surge.
With free VR support, clear minimalistic visuals, satifsying gameplay, semi-random levels, full Steam workshop integration, Race the Sun is still playable and fun today, 5+ years after release.

The game’s illusion of freedom is a bit disappointing. There are no paths surrounded by invisible walls as we have come to expect from other ‘endless runners’, and the first thing you do is try to take a peek at the edge of this world. But, in reality, there are only three ways: forward, just to the left, and just to the right.

When you fly 350 kph, and gigantic block falls in front of your nose, don't say you weren't expecting it. Race the Sun is simply a wonderful reaction trainer. However, it could deliver a bit more than that.
