Resident Evil 4 VR takes one of the greatest, most thrilling video game campaigns of all time and nigh-flawlessly translates it to VR, making for an even more intense, breathtaking, and terrifying experience than ever. It may not innovate or execute everything as elegantly as a made-for-VR game like Half Life: Alyx, and it doesn’t necessarily replace the original as the definitive version, but it’s, without doubt, a definitive killer app for Oculus Quest 2.

This isn't some half-assed port. Armature Studios fully converted Resident Evil 4 to 1st-person VR, only leaving 3rd-person for cutscenes and QTEs. You'll rarely find a VR game of this length and production value, combining classic and modern mechanics into a compelling package.

Resident Evil 4 VR's Oculus Quest 2 exclusivity means that it has an incredibly limited audience right out of the gate, and it's hard to recommend someone buy a brand new VR headset to play this one game. However, hardcore Resident Evil 4 fans may want to consider biting the bullet and doing that anyway, as VR completely reinvigorates the game and succeeds in making a 16-year-old experience feel new.

Let's be clear: Resident Evil 4 VR is arguably one of the best VR action games available on the Oculus Quest today. While visually the weight of the ages is felt, the frantic pace of the action has not aged a bit. Even better: virtual reality offers a second youth to the title of Capcom thanks to much freer movements (move and shoot at the same time!) And movements that respond to the fingers and the eye. From a cult TPS, but which had taken the lead in the wing due to an outdated grip, Resident Evil 4 here becomes a nervous and particularly effective FPS.

Resident Evil 4 is a fantastic game no matter what you play it on, but the jump to VR has a few issues. The controls feel good in a vacuum, but certain options will make the game exponentially harder. If you’re someone who doesn’t get sick in VR, this is one of the best titles on the platform. If you do get sick, however, stick with the 2D versions.

Resident Evil 4 VR is an incredible, if not definitive take on an all-time classic. There are a lot of rough edges to this port like the constant cutting to virtual screens, lack of spatial audio and certain combat encounters that simply don’t translate well to VR. But, for every moment of Wii-waggle boulder dodging or tarnished memories of once much more demanding boss fights, developer Armature mines gold elsewhere. Whether it’s the brilliantly redesigned puzzles, the slick satisfaction of pulling off headshots with careful aim or simply taking in this world of terror from a fresh new angle, there are a lot of reasons to relive the horror. I suspect it’s best enjoyed as a novel way to revisit one of the all-time greats than it is to approach fresh but whatever your circumstances, you’re bound to enjoy the ride. Games like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners might be the future of VR, but Resident Evil 4 is a welcome reminder that it’s well worth looking to the past too.

Resident Evil 4 returns in virtual reality exclusively on Oculus' Quest 2. If the game is identical to the original material in its graphics and game design, seen from the inside, it must be spectacular. Especially since the game is not stingy with epic moments. In addition, the ease of use on the quest is optimal and in-game interactions with objects, weapons included, are successful. Resident Evil 4, on the other hand, is a game full of cutscenes. But there are really plenty of them, every 3 seconds, even in the middle of a fight. And when that happens, you are often placed in a dark room with a screen. Even though the cutscene is only half a second ... Then you come back to the game, in the body of Leon Kennedy. Until the next cutscene. This breaks up the immersion, which has been successful, and that's a shame. A big black point for this Resident Evil 4 which would have benefited from evolving for VR and not remaining too faithful to the original material, even if it means sacrificing the kinematics or the game mechanics. Another big black point, no bonus of end of game other than a new game +. Soon in DLC? Clearly, if you have a Quest 2, 40 € to fork out and you are a big fan of Resident Evil 4, do not shy away from your pleasure, we recommend the purchase. But when we read each other again, we say to ourselves that there are a lot of conditions.

Too bad it didn't come out for PC too, Quest has extremely limited hardware, it could have been much more used if it had been released on PC, not to mention that Oculus has its own launcher, they could have released it for PC on the Oculus launcher! This plays like a PS2 game and having a pistol that is that slow to shoot just isn't fun. I gave up after less than 30 mins.
