Resident Evil Village may be the best Resident Evil of all time. It certainly is up there with the best of the series, but that heavily depends on your kind of RE game. If you enjoyed RE4 or RE7 then you’ll probably like this one. And if you enjoyed both of them as much as each other then this very well could be one of the best. It certainly is for me.

Resident Evil Village is a worthy sequel that takes full advantage of its Gothic setting, with Capcom delivering an absolute masterclass in survival horror thrills.

Resident Evil Village is a great horror game that is sure to delight newcomers and old fans of the series. The horror setting has moments that are genuinely terrifying and the game’s narrative feels suitably satisfying, and grotesque, to entice fans of the genre. The only downside is that its increased focus on combat can make it feel a little too easy, even when played on the normal difficulty setting. If you’re looking to experience the true horrors on offer here, I suggest you crank up the difficulty.

A grimly beautiful collection of killer horror set-pieces, with some of the most memorably grotesque enemies in Resi history.

The first run through Resident Evil Village is a genuinely thrilling, often scary ride, which draws on a lot of features from the series' greatest hits. It's worth a look for anyone who's ever enjoyed a Resident Evil game or a first-person shooter. The cracks only start to show later on. Village is playable and entertaining, but it lacks some attention to detail when compared to the other mainline entries in the series.

Those comparisons to Resident Evil 4 are not entirely unfounded then. It is not as genre-shifting as that game – few games are – but it does share a certain ethos and hunger for variety in tension and action. It is very much its own thing too, both a natural continuation of the series recent reinvention and a manic expansion of its long-standing invention and flamboyance. Most of all, it is a tremendous, and tremendously terrifying, video game in its own right.

A grand rogue's gallery stuck in a small world and a disappointingly familiar game design.

    Some misconceptions about RE8!

    1. “Short game or it’s 8 hours only.” This is straight up WRONG. The game can easily take more than 12 hours to finish. Some even beat it in more than that. The in-game timer literally lies to you, if you’ve played 12 hours, it will tell you that you spent 7 or 8 hours. RE8 has more exploration and side optional in-game content more than any previous RE game. It’s easily one of the longest RE games. It’s got a perfect length for an RE game, not to mention that it has post-game content and good replay value.

    2. “It’s not scary.” hella WRONG! This game has different types of horror. From RE7 type of horror, to RE4 (panicking), and to Silent Hill / PT level of horror + other types. In fact, one section in the game has probably the scariest and creepiest moment in the entire franchise.

    3. “It’s RE4+RE7.” This is true, but it also has inspirations from almost every RE game. The game feels like it’s a celebration for RE’s 25th anniversary.

I’ve enjoyed my time playing it and I think it’s A MUST BUY for every RE fan or a survival horror fan.

    - Easily and by a huge margin, RE8 is the best looking RE game ever. It's INCREDIBLY detailed, well designed and STUNNING to look at.
    - Very atmospheric, and its got a lot of variety in that aspect as well.
    - Sound design is also the best in the series. The intro is horrifying!
    - From the first few hours, you'll quickly notice how big and diverse the game is.
    - Levels are intricately crafted, with more ways to explore them. Really liked how the village was structured with more ways to explore and search its houses.
    - The game INSANELY nails the interior design of its levels; I find myself stopping every 5 mins or so just to absorb the beauty of it all.
    - The game's setting really makes you feel like you're playing in a horror themed amusement park.
    - There is clear emphasis on exploration and side content.
    - The game allows you to take control of your own pacing at certain sections. It’s not really a linear game. It has more freedom and exploration than previous RE games as I mentioned before, which I liked very much!
    - The game does a really good job of changing its intensity from time to time. Presenting different types of horror along the way, mixing them up with action / adventure elements & sequences while still being within its survival horror medium. It’s well balanced, diverse and refreshing.
    - RE8 has some of the highest highs in the franchise. When it hits, it hits real good. :D
    - NO LOADING TIMES. That's a technical marvel considering the quality of its graphics, level design and performance. RE Engine strikes again!
    - Puzzles are fun and rewarding.
    - Backtracking here is the most fun and rewarding in all of the RE games.
    - Music is top tier.
    - The merchant is cool.
    - The story is intriguing and thrilling.
    - The characters are some of the best in the series. Really interesting, very well acted and fun to watch. Not including Ethan though lol, however he's honestly better this time.

    * Advice: if you're playing with a controller (consoles or on PC), turn off the movement camera acceleration and aiming camera acceleration settings. They somewhat introduce input delay and make the camera movement feel slow. Terrible settings!

I've been playing RE games since the first RE on playstation. I'm not a regular gamer as I used to be, but RE 7 and RE 8 are great games. Different but both great. Loved the story, graphics, mood, characters, maps, music and sound.... Many moments I thought I would die or run out of bullets, but they nailed the difficulty. The pace is also great, with breaks from action, puzzles and story very well balanced. What more can I say? Play it!
NOTE: I've played the game after Capcom fixed the PC issues.

Being the sequel of one of the best survival-horror games of the decade its not that easy, but resident evil village manages to createBeing the sequel of one of the best survival-horror games of the decade its not that easy, but resident evil village manages to create something new through old good elements from the RE franchise and adding an atmosphere really inspired in classical horror monsters such as werewolves, vampires and even frankenstein. The game has more action than resident evil 7 (not a bad thing), it balances perfectly horror and action, creating a unique playability, in the entire game the atmosphere flows between the two of them, switching depending the areas and enemies. The bossfights were great, except one of them.
The story is sophisticated, interesting and thrilling, the rhytm is a bit slow in some parts but not for too long, as you advance in the game you will fell like if you were in a fable. The characters and antagonists are pretty nice, the most charismatic one is Karl Heisenberg, on the other hand, Ethan becomes a more interesting character in this one playing the role of father.
Something bad about the gameplay, the enemies moves by zones, what i mean with this is that if you walk away of an specific area were some enemies appear they will inmediatly turn and get away from there.
Personally, i really enjoyed the game, there is people saying that the game is too short, the game lasts 10 hours and if we have in mind the replayability and the extra mode "the mercenaries" that is going to give us a lot more hours (like every resident evil game). I extremely recommend this game if you liked resident evil 7 or resident evil 4, for me was one of the best RE games on the saga, at least in the top 5.

actually the bosses become more and more boring IMO. I wish it was exactly in the opposite order, so it would become more and more exciting.
but yeah, thats just opinion, maybe other people liked it this way.
But something I bet NO ONE liked or even understood: wtf was that tank section by the end? really, it made me feel like an emoji from the 2000s @__@
