For every reason I play RPGs (big decisions, interesting characters, fun gameplay, immersive exploration), Risen 3 hits every sweet spot.

Piranha Bytes is going back to its roots – including new cool factions like the Demonhunters and Guardians, both using powerful fantasy-spells. The game also offers a rich and detailed open world, mixing pirate- with medieval-setting where you can explore tons of rpg-content. Unfortunately the cinematic and technical presentation isn’t state of the art, including camera- and clipping-problems. Though the combat-system has improved since Risen 2, it still isn’t well balanced and polished.

The Germans took a step back and reintroduced more of the distinctive atmosphere of the Gothic series and the first Risen, which is a huge advantage for me. The world is so vivid and lively that it really makes you want to be there and see as much of the vast content as possible. It’s a shame that the game’s engine is visibly aging and the story lacks the punch. [10/2014, p.48]

Despite its oddball shortcomings, Risen 3 is a solid open-world RPG packed with entertaining characters and challenging combat scenarios.

The main strength of Risen 3: Titan Lords is the big amount of things to do. Missions of any kind, treasure maps, crafting, factions, exploration of the islands, some naval engagement and more. But for those who have already played Risen 2: Dark Waters the impression of "copy-paste" is really strong and unfortunately its main flaws are still here.

It’s almost a good game. For some of you that will be enough. It’s a neat little diversion and it’s fun in spurts, and maybe that’s all you are looking for. However, there are many other better RPGs to play out there with better stories, and better systems.

Bloated in the mission department, threadbare everywhere else, Risen 3: Titan Lords is cobbled together from rehashed material, and the series' many flaws are enhanced a hundredfold in the process.

I really enjoyed the immersion, the dialogues, the fighting mechanics. I am indeed in love with this game! It has humour, it has feeling, it's just an amazing experience all-in-all, but not for people who are fast players. You have to get immersed and take your time with the game. It's not Hearthstone or whatever you kids are playing nowadays. Expand

Damn it's so disappointing to see where Piranha Bytes went from Gothic series to Risen 3. As much as Gothic series we absolutely AMAZING,Damn it's so disappointing to see where Piranha Bytes went from Gothic series to Risen 3. As much as Gothic series we absolutely AMAZING, Risen franchise SUCKS. No variety whatsoever.

I hope they never touch Gothic series again because they will surely **** it up.

Boring plot, watered down gameplay to suit xbox and ps3 bad animations appalling graphics.

I'm just kinda rambling around because i'm in shock.

Risen 1 barely held it together as ''gothic'' style game but they have **** on that. They had great niche to be a special kind of RPG where not everything was like skyrim and where you could finish quests just by exploring the world.

Now they have become obsessed with this pirate theme thinking it will sell on account of pirates of the Caribbean or Asassins creed black flag....WRONG

What you did was alienate all your fans from the gothic franchise. Shame on you PB.

Even gothic ARCANIA was more fun to play than this crap.

STOP MAKING GAMES FOR XBOX AND PS. STOP SIMPLIFYING GOTHIC MECHANICS. RETURN TO MEDIEVAL/MAGIC where PIRATE ADVENTURE IS A QUEST OR TWO LIKE NIGHT OF THE RAVEN NOT THE WHOLE GAME.

EITHER THAT OR STOP MAKING GAMES.

    ENRAGED FAN!!!!!!

DAMN I HAVE TO PLAY GOTHIC AGAIN JUST TO GET THIS BAD TASTE OF CRAP OUT OF MY HEAD.

I will try to summarize it. In general Risen 3 was a mediocre/bad game, especially considering that it came from the Gothic developer.I will try to summarize it. In general Risen 3 was a mediocre/bad game, especially considering that it came from the Gothic developer.

Graphics: Definitely low quality for a 2014 game, even Risen 1 had better looking graphics Sound/Music: Pretty generic, nothing memorable

Story: Messed up, too many elements put together without proper explanation. Questions from Risen 1 never got answered, instead they added extra story elements that only managed to confuse as more.

World Design: Weak. It doesn't feel realistic and unique. Multiple islands and invisible walls spoil the "open world" feeling. Too many empty areas without the proper content, only filled with randomly placed enemies. There is not a single town in the whole game.

NPC's: Again, weak. Voice acting is below average, there are many NPC's and companions but the fail to immerse you in the game world. They have no strong personality. Too many dialogues that become boring. I would prefer less, and more meaningful ones. Speaking gnomes turn the game into a parody destroying the "mature" feeling.

Combat: Better animations than R2, but still it doesn't feel right especially in the beginning. Enemies have a unnatural long attack range causing you headache and extremely bad AI. As the game progresses combat gets easier but also repetitive and boring. Magic is a good addition, but it doesn't seem to fit in the pirate/caribbean setting.

Inventory: Same from Risen 2. Extremely unpractical, I would prefer Risen 1 inventory instead.
