If Uncharted rose to fame with weapons it stole from washed-out Tomb Raider (before its reboot), Shadow of the Tomb Raider grabs them back, making it visually and gameplaywise the most essential action-adventure you can imagine. It not only builds upon the series legacy, it goes to its roots and successfully brings back the exploration that we were busy not to even notice was missing while tackling through many exciting action set pieces of the previous games. Doing so, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the most poignant entry in the long series since the very first game.

There is a noticeable emphasis on the narrative. Although Shadow of the Tomb Raider modifies what we've grown accustomed to within the franchise, the change of pace is welcomed. You'll find pockets of open-world to explore, with tons of side-quests and interactions with NPCs. Don't expect guns-a-blazin', but do expect getting more than you bargained for from this Tomb Raider experience.

Some of the physics could have been better, but overall, it’s going to probably be one of the most beautiful games in 2018. It would be interesting to see where the story goes from here. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the highlight of the series, and topping it will be difficult.

Despite some frame-rate stutters, slight audio-visual desyncs, and the occasional bad texture rendering, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is eerie, challenging, thoughtful, compelling, and downright fun.

The new Tomb Raider shows Lara Croft as an empty character that has nothing inside.
  6. Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't have much to offer compared to the recent games. However, if you are a fan of the Tomb Raider series, you will enjoy it.

Tomb Raider was personal because it was personal. But now it’s come full circle to yet another vapid videogame character muddling through bad writing, rote familiar gameplay, and fewer features than the last time. Wake me when the next reboot is here.

I dont understand some people here all they want is lara with shorts and two guns, the character has evolved get over it!! The game is good,I dont understand some people here all they want is lara with shorts and two guns, the character has evolved get over it!! The game is good, the story not so much but is fun and thats whats important.
They made some beautiful locations and tombs, there are more of them and now you dont need to solve everything with the bow like ROTTR. Also the game is full with culture but brain dead people thinks thats boring...ok.
Now travel is harder and settings are adjustable and dont even compare this traveling with uncharted climbing simulator 4 at least here you need to use some timing. Exploration is better and more rewarding.
Focus on stealth is a welcome addition now Lara is not "one woman army" and theres the option to sneak through silently in some parts. In some others you will have to fight.
On the downside there are few new characters and not all of them are interesting but also this game is focused on Lara. The sidequests are useless perhaps a little better than previous games but still not good.
The optimization is terrible on towns and the parts where are NPCs talking it kills your framerate.
in my opinion the 2013 reboot had the best characters and story but this one is fine, better than ROTTR and is also longer. It deserves a higher score...

Good action-adventure game that becomes too repetitive after 10 hours.
Exploration is well-done in this game, but due to the over-saturated map feels a bit like a chore after a while.
The puzzles are interesting and try to test your spatial reasoning as well as your hand-to-eye coordination.
Most of the time, the parcour options make sense, but a few time, they are just trial and error ****
The combat works fine, but this game lacks enough action overall, proof is that I constantly need to leave ammo/materials behind.
    Still a solid game overall.

    What a complete disappointment.

Finally got around to playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider just recently as I wanted to wait until I got my new computer to play the game. So here are my thoughts:

Graphics: A massive mixed bag, the in game cut scenes look fantastic as well as the lighting and overall the game looks pretty solid, however sometimes the game is just downright ugly with washed out colours, characters looking clay-like and the game often looking pixelated especially background scenery.

Gameplay: Very similar to Rise of the Tomb Raider, except Rise of the Tomb Raider took what was good about its predecessor and improved upon it. Shadow does the opposite of this with few additions to the Rise gameplay and the game just feels so much clunkier than Rise as well as being frustrating at times with quick time events and bad level design with the game feeling incredibly linear. The game also punishes you for going stealth with the bow being practically useless since most enemies take multiple hits to kill regardless of headshots, better off going guns blazing like Uncharted.

Story: It sucks, the devs clearly didn't care about the story so why should I? Cookie cutter two dimensional characters that are picked up and dropped like a rock, peoples motivations aren't explained and Lara is the only character that is likeable (just barely)

Audio: The music is pretty decent, however the audio will cut out at times and the lip syncing will also go out of sync from time to time.

Overall: To sum up, the game is noticeably worse than its predecessors. The game is too linear and holds your hand tightly with incredibly uninspired level design. It looks pretty good visually (for the most), the gameplay is fine (even though its forgettable) and the story, well you won't remember it after a day. Sadly the game is just mediocre, maybe pick it up in a couple of years during a Steam sale for $5? Almost forgot to mention, the game has quite a few bugs including visual bugs, audio bugs and gameplay bugs that require you to reload from the last checkpoint. Have fun :)

Edit: Also realised I missed an entire scene (the cool scene where she rises from the water with flames etc) as the game just skipped it, the scene just didn't happen it cut past it, just another bug worth pointing out.

This is the last game and Crystal Dynamics made a money grab with Eidos. They knew we would assume the game would be excellent just because the last two were successively better...played us for rubes. This game sucks so bad I quit at that village were she is in a dress for half the game. Her guns look like antiques ... so does her face. The game is more like where's Waldo. Sorry I forgot it was made by the Assassin's Creed team and that's all they know... run here find this now go here and get that...Yuk! Now all the DLC is just a succession of tombs...more Waldo. And by the way the AI is atrocious they all come at you at once as fast as possible. No game writing just coded to collect on you. Suck Suck Suck NO BUY! Expand
