Fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang and his former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick Orochi Zilla embark on an improbable mission to recapture an ancient dragon they unwillingly unleashed from its eternal prison. Armed with a punishing mix of blades and bullets, Lo Wang must traverse uncharted parts of the world to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back yet again. All it will take is the mask of a dead god, a dragon's egg, a touch of magic, and enough firepower to hold off the impending cataclysm. Bring a Katana to a Gunfight. Conduct a symphony of death with each encounter by mixing overwhelming firepower with devastatingly precise katana strikes as you dash in and around the demonic hordes.

    Fancy Footwork
Flow between nimble movement techniques including air dashes, wall running, double jumps, and the fancy new grappling hook busts your combat and movement options wide open in every battle.

    Execute Then Annihilate
Execute spectacular finishing moves to claim a piece of your conquered foe and unleash its powers back on the horde in a burst of unstoppable fury and powerful magic.

    Dynamic Combat Arenas
Each environment is lined with hazardous structures and devices that can be activated to add another layer of creative choice to the offensive strategy.

    Neo Feudal Japan
Trek across a mythic Asian land infused with the magic and technology of ancient samurai, now overrun by the demonic yokai from Japanese folklore.

    Funny Business
Brace for expertly delivered one-liners from Lo Wang, pointed banter with Zilla, and an intense thrill ride of absurd predicaments on the way to turning doomsday into a new day.

Shadow Warrior 3 is an unbridled good time with great fights and even greater one-liners. Add in some character and weapon upgrades with a great store and that is a recipe for success in my book. With the exception of the controller issues everything else in this game comes highly recommended by myself.

If you sometimes get tired of plodding, greyish-brownish-greenish pseudo-realistic military shooters, this is the antidote. Dazzlingly colourful, unrelentingly fast-paced, unrepentantly zany and bursting with potential for player creativity, Shadow Warrior 3 is absolutely joyous to play from start to finish. So after 25 years, do I STILL want some Wang? You’re damn right I do!

Lo Wang is a child of another age, when shooters were lightning-paced and enemies had no qualms about hitting you from behind or covering the entire area with projectiles. So, it will be difficult for him to gain popularity among the crowd raised on slow-paced cover-based shooters, but hey – Wang never backs down from a challenge. [Issue#259, p.70]

Shadow warrior 3 is an excellent first person shooter with an awesome combat system full of possibilities and cool mechanics, with gorgeous and colorful graphics that looks outstanding. The poor and simple level design, short length and lack of content avoid it from reaching the top tiers of the genre.

Shadow Warrior 3 is a game that knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s not the best-looking game, nor the most polished. The ambitions are limited, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This is the action movie you watch on a weekend afternoon, not Citizen Kane. That confidence results in a game that is extremely enjoyable with a great mix of action and absurdism, but also something that will be easy to forget. The linear design works for a single playthrough, which is more than enough to get what Shadow Warrior 3 has to offer.

Shadow Warrior 3 lives and dies on how much fun it is to play. Thankfully, the minute-to-minute action is downright delightful, even if the boss encounters maintain the series’ streak of being underwhelming. The shooting, movement, and killing are every bit as good as recent Doom games, even if the whole thing feels derivative. The guns and enemies are wildly inventive and engaging. It is a shame the rest of the experience fails to meet the same standard. I was disappointed at many of the design choices here, particularly the loss of cooperative play and randomized encounters. Die-hard fans and shooter aficionados should pick this up, but most folks would probably find more fun with some different wang online.

That’s the problem with Shadow Warrior 3. For all it’s hay about subversiveness and whacked out combat, there was never a moment during its campaign where I didn’t know exactly what to do, the basic shape of what was to come, and the exact way I’d solve those problems once I got there. The game has a linear, flat trajectory all the way through – and its inability to truly bring its own world to life is a key failure in what could have been a far more charming, interesting experience.

Thankfully this has been mostly fixed with patches, so if this put you off at release it's mostly safe to try again.

Shadow Warrior 3 isn't a bad game, it's just not particularly good in any area, it's a completely forgettable experience that mercifully only lasted about 5 hours, although charging £35 for a 5 hour game is disgusting.

I was a big fan of Shadow Warrior 2 but sadly 3 just feels like a downgrade in almost every area, you can tell it had a much lower budget and major cut backs were made as a result. There just needed to be more, more enemy types, more weapons, more customization and just more wang in general. And speaking of wang, the voice actor was replaced because he wasn't Asian which is just being woke for the sake of being woke.

Shadow Warrior 3 reminds me of Doom 2016 and Eternal but without the oomph, it lacks punch in every aspect, weapons don't have any impact, glory kills lack weight and there's so little variety in animation. The gameplay is also very repetitive, mostly because the levels are all exactly the same. Little bit of parkour > cutscene > big room > kill enemies > cutscene > more parkour > big room > kills enemies etc etc. And speaking of cutscenes, there are a lot of them, it feels like half the game is cutscenes and they're very intrusive, often going back and forth between gameplay and cutscene in an unpleasant way.

Overall Shadow Warrior 3 is fine, but ultimately a game I will never think about again after this review, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it at full price, this is a wait for a deep sale.

Dialogues might actually be worse than borderlands 3 and that's saying something. Story is basic as it gets, characters are unlikable and poorly written, combat tries to emulate doom but only shows how hard it can be, soundtrack is meh, locations are beautiful and badly designed at the same time. Collisions are often missing or badly set, arenas are too small and most levitate in the air making falling extremally easy. There is absolutely nothing to really like in SW3 and it feels like project of students. It's sad. Expand
