It’s not my place to second guess game design. As you know, you go to Civilization with the game you have, not the game you might want or wish to have at a later time. But it is my place to note that when I go to Civilization, I’m looking for more than just a laid back single-player cities builder with the AI frittering idly in the margins. I cut my teeth on Sid Meier’s grand strategy without a brain-dead tactical layer drizzled over the top. I admire a lot of what Firaxis is doing to move on from the mess of Civilization V. They’re headed in the right direction, even if they are dragging a lot of baggage.

Civilization VI isn’t the complete package, but it has the makings of one. Buy it now to get acclimated to the new mechanics before the inevitable expansions.

Civ VI is the best that strategy gaming has to offer.

That's the word for Civ VI: labyrinthine. By the time you've seen enough of it to determine whether or not you even enjoy it, the question is moot. You've digested its interlocking systems so thoroughly that, like it or not, they're part of you now. Such is its insidious nature: for all its soaring symphonic overtures and passionate rhetoric about the steady advance of humanity in the face of unimaginable adversity, Civ depicts all of human endeavor – from literature to sailing to knitting – as intractable conflict, a never-ending struggle to dominate your enemies that reduces every field imaginable to a rat race across a doomed planet.

Civ VI, which is already building upon what made Civ V so great anyway, forces you to adapt and play differently each time depending on your map and policies, so...yeah, we could be in for a long, fun ride with this one.
  5. It is, quite simply, a thing of wonder, and a late contender for my personal game of the year.

There is little doubt that Civilization VI comes closer than any of its predecessors to that famous Sid Meier quote, one intended as a definition of games in general but is arguably better understood as a rumination on their ideal form: It is a series of truly interesting decisions.

The game is magical. As test of your ability to think strategically, Civilization VI is almost unparalleled.

Yes, you can lose if you play like an imbecile, but again and again the AI demonstrates just how bad it is and I am not talking about minor glitches. The AI is just bad: how about a 12 tile island and the AI city produces 8 scouts?! Other examples of spamming and diplomacy weirdness are just as stupid. Frankly then, the game makes the biggest mistake of all - it is boring.

And I personally hate games the overly rely on giving the AI buffs and the player debuffs just to make up for their poor investment in AI development. "Let's just make it look puurdy for the suckers!"

So, here we have yet another example of developers producing a rushed game in full knowledge fanboys will buy it and try their best to love it saying, "Yeah, this time is gonna be different!" and it's just not! Boredom is on the way. Delete.

I would like to say it is a step back from Civ V, but in the Civ series, a step back is strangely always a better game.
This game is not better than Civ V, not to speak of Civ IV or III.
Civ games are very complex and have an adult audience who like to go deep into the game mechanics to get the most out of every round.
Who in the world thought this audience likes comic look?
    It is just awful.
The leaders are very annoying and the comic-joke animation makes it even worse. Every second round the NPC factions want to speak with you. And with that comes the endless animation.
The game design itself and the city spamming is just ridiculous. My best tactic until now, just spam settlers and settle everywhere. There is no negative side to expand stupidly. No world wide unrest, nothing.
But the worst thing about this game is the KI. It is almost not existing. This game is way to easy, and boring.
Maybe it is fun in multiplayer, but singleplayer this game is no fun at all.

Honestly it grows on you quite quickly and it fits the game well, for a launch i would say this lives up to its predecessors, we already see a lot of features and there is a lot to do in this game without spoiling too much. The game flows great, costume game is fun as always with lots of options and factions to pick from. In conclusion I love it! Full Review »
