A solid shooting game that manages to achieve the perfect balance between two different worlds. Above all, it presents the experience of a sniper in a highly entertaining and spectacular way.

The enemy AI needs work and the game’s budget was too low for the developers to polish all the details, but with its spacious environments perfect for extremely long shots (headshots on moving targets from 1500 meters are awesome!) and interesting combat scenarios turning sometimes into puzzle-like situations, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is definitely worth recommending as a well-designed, really fun game. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 works well as a sniping game and a stealth FPP game with interesting maps. The title focuses on getting straight to gameplay instead of overwhelming players with numerous scripts and cutscenes. It's not perfect, but each installment of the series is getting closer to a bullseye.

This is the best entry in the franchise yet: The level design is great and you have loads of options to get the job done. But the save system is very inflexible and the dumb enemies drag the experience down.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is one of the best games in the world for doing sniping right, that's something I firmly believe. However, CI Games almost seem afraid of letting the game shine, all too often moving you away from sniping, an action the game is named after. In addition, the game is showing a few issues, such as downright stupid AI and a few bugs here and there. It's a shame because there are good open areas to move around in, the contracts allow you to use your brain and plan the perfect hit and it all looks great while you're on your path to becoming the world's best blood-spatter creator.

Contracts 2 is, regrettably, a near miss that can’t be resolved with a quick follow-up shot. The run of the mill shooting drags the rest of the game down, and there’s so much of it it’s nearly impossible to overlook.vHowever, I’ve still enjoyed my time with the game and will be dipping back into the Long Shot contracts for a while to polish off some more of those challenges.

Expand

Definitely the best part of SGW series. The graphics is superb. The AI is improved - they even use smoke grenades to hide their location :)

You can collect diaries and tinder boxes in the levels, for each objective and collectible you get cash and skill points. You use the cash to get upgrades for your equipment, like silencers for your sniper rifle, or different kinds of weapons, the game has a fantastic arsenal available and a bunch of significant upgrades for each gun.

The skills vary from stealth kills that you can chain, similar to the Far Cry games, to the ability of climbing from the bottom of zip lines like in Tomb Raider. You also have a “mask vision” mode that relies on an automatically rechargeable battery, it highlights interactable objects and, after you upgrade it, security systems, and enemies.

The levels are extremely varied, not only for how they look, but also because of their design, most of the levels are composed of open areas with a multitude of different objectives to complete, think of something like Metro Exodus, or Sniper Elite 4, it offers a fantastic amount of freedom for how to tackle your objectives, as well as what objective you want to get to first.

The stealth mechanics are fairly simplistic, but satisfying, you can sneak behind enemies and either kill them quickly with your knife, or alternatively, you can interrogate them, interrogating them reveals enemy locations, and if already known, they can also reveal caches, and secret ammo cases.
The sniping is extremely satisfying, the game is fairly violent and there’s a lot of feedback in the bullet kill cams, that you can disable, or increase the frequency of, to your liking.

The game looks beautiful, and detailed, varied in its presentation, and runs beautifully on pc.

The game is fairly cheap and offers a lot of replayability.

Happy to see this developer improving so much.

Instead of alternating missions at super long distances and ordinary ones, they should do all them usual ones in which periodically there would be targets at long distances because "missions - shooting range" at the end of game were very tired. Not hard but tired... The graphic aspects are pretty nice. Music and different sounds are always appropriate and normal. Nice inserts of enemy's conversations.
What I didn’t like in that game:
    1) AI of the enemy is dull even on the penultimate difficulty. For example, enemy can go to the wall and try to go through it.
    2) The mechanics of the game show that the game is not saving next to the enemy. Logically, it means that during a battle, auto-save does not work, which is really logical and correct... but very often the game was still saving during the battle. How do you like this, eh?
    3) Armor-piercing bullets do not kill two soldiers standing in a row if you shoot not in the head. Ordinary soldiers, not in armor. What?!
    4) Cheat reloading: You can shoot down half of the base. Reload from the last checkpoint... and the bodies disappear. Nobody will raise the alarm for a corpse... Profit. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
    5) Drone... almost useless **** In almost 90% of cases, it is banally jammed by towers or the needed place. Or it is too far for him to fly... and now "cherry on the cake": these towers cannot be turned off. The authors overshadowed the complexity of its use and made it almost scrap metal except in rare 10% cases.
6.1) The last mission in ruins: The game several times reloaded me directly on enemy's "fire point" - death-reload-death-realod. After 3-4 times I had to reload game by myself from the earlier place.
6.2) The last mission in ruins: Again in that place, when I just came there, there were only 3 soldiers. When I ended mission there and returned to go through to the next mission, there were already 10-15 and they searched for me. The game's bug made them invisible at the beginning of mission and then visible, after ended it and I returned in that village to go through it to the next zone.

    My experience with SGW...

I loved 3, that game was such an under rated hidden gem. I Liked contracts 1. It was fun at times and had some cool mechanics, almost, but I missed the open world of 3 and the cohesive story.

With that being said, contracts 2 is a mixed bag for me. It doubles down on the single instance map, time. No open world or overarching narrative, but it doesn't improve on 2lcontract 1s formula enough (and even gets in it's own way instead.) For example, one of my favorite aspects of contracts 1 and even 3 was the drone and the tagging system. For some reason I am not using my drone or tagging in contracts 2, but it tool me awhile to figure out why. The game has "drone towera" all over that block the drone and other towers that remove your god damn tags. Why even have these mechanics if they are prevented from use so often?

Also the long range sniping essentially pigeon holes hald the missions into a boring, almost 2d like game design. You can't run up buildings or hide behind a dumpster, no hidden paths can be uncovered, no interaction really. You just aim and shoot, occasionally using something ridiculous like "luring" bullets to interact with patrols. The long sniping should be emergent in normal gameplay, like an option to take on a certain mission by setting up further away, but it shouldn't be whole levels. My other complaint is the games length. This felt like a DLC, not only where there only 5 or 6levels, they all feel the exact same because they're all in the same general region of the world. The good stuf...

Classic contracts, that us to say not the ding sniping mission, are still fun. You still get interesting emergent gameplay and a variety of ways to approach a given objective. The slow motion bullet time and brain splatter physics are really cool. Perfect headshots never get old. The guns are very well designe, with realistic looking models and good customizabilit. Also the graphics look excellen, this is triple A level polish and graphics design. All in all it is what it is, prettyfun but a little generic and has some glaring flaws. It's also endlessly fun to shoot people and see the bullet go toward them in slow mo.

In a perfect world they would go back to the days of GW 3 and craft another open world game like far cry, but they're clearly not doing that anymore. So we have what we have, a mediocre game that can quite fun to mess around in, but nothing earth shattering.
