It looks marvelous, especially the character animations that have been especially tweaked to improve on typical Unreal character performance.
There are just too many doors that don't open, or containment field barriers that can't be lowered, giving the rat in a maze feel to many missions.
Use of the Unreal engine brings alien worlds and starship interiors to glorious life in stunning detail and colour.
Overall, though, The Fallen doesn't exactly leave you feeling like you've been through the mill, emotionally or physically. Think of it as being a cheerful diversion.
What is lacking in over familiar gameplay is made up for with impressive visuals, a genuine atmosphere and very friendly features and controls.
