Street Fighter V delivers where it counts as a fighting game, the gameplay, and makes leaps and bounds of improvement everywhere else. That makes it a must-buy if you're any type of fan of the series—especially since there are no Super, Ultra or Turbo versions coming out in the future.

At launch, SFV is merely serviceable for the seasoned online warrior. For the beginner, it is simply abysmal.

Launch troubles and lack of single player aside (which this score addresses), Street Fighter V is a brilliant fighting game. While currently in its infant stage, Street Fighter V will continue to grow into something amazing.

As soon as Street Fighter 5 was announced to the public, I was immediately taken back to my childhood days – but maybe for the wrong reasons. Yet again, the game was mostly ignored by the media. The same thing happened to Street Fighter 3 in the late 90s. But Capcom still worked diligently on their Beat 'Em Up. The end result might look a little small on overall content, but as Capcom promised, Street Fighter 5 will constantly get new content until the end of the PS4-era.

At the moment, with its fantastic gameplay but a serious lack of content, Street Fighter 5 is a solid 7/10; a good game that is a great for fans of the genre but can’t be recommended to all. Hopefully though, in a year’s time when the promised features have been added and the roster of fighters has been increased in number, it’ll be worthy of a 9/10. Until then however, those looking for single player fighting thrills should look elsewhere to get their kicks, whilst those wanting to just play online will definitely enjoy Street Fighter 5, but may find its repetition of stages and fighters slightly irksome.

With control options on the PC being rather limited, the game is only good for those who care about competition. For everyone else looking for something closer to what the older games provided, give it a month to see if things improve.

If you're looking for anything other than a solid fighting game with strong netcode, you should probably hold off until the game sees a few more updates.

The cast is diverse and so far all the characters seem pretty well balanced, so you won't be penalized for liking a certain character.
Although for now lacking a bit in single player features, this was known ahead of time and will get added in the very near future.
Though who would want story mode when you can take the excellent gameplay online is beyond me.

Street Fighter 5 – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but buyer beware

    The Upside
After having read lots of "professional" praise and lots of "player" hate, I decided, that the element the press praises is more important to me personally, than the element the players hate on. It's the fun of the “easy to learn, hard to master” gameplay versus the lack of basic and netherrealmy modes and bonus shenanigans. Considering the fact, that MKX online is a catastrophe, and its support has been ceased, SF5 online is a marvel, as it not only works like a charm, but it does so CROSSPLATFORM. Yes, if you wish, you can fight against people on the PS4, which widens the audience and potential competitors quite a lot.

The survivor mode is a string of single round fights and comes with added elements of strategy, due to several bonus options to choose from, if you can pay for them with accumulated points. The fact, that within this mode, the lifebar carries over makes this thing very spicy. It took me a whole weekend to finish this thing on normal, and while you can noob yourself through the easy setting, you really have to learn to play to get to the finish on normal setting.
The added incentive to finish this mode are the bonus colors for your chosen character, as these are unlocked only via this mode - in SF4 you only had to play to unlock these colors, you did not have to achieve anything. Now my ego boosting and vanity is properly displayed, when I play online with a hard earned color palette, that not everyone has yet accessed.

What I also really love is the option to set up your readiness for online ranked an casual matches. If you (as I) don’t like to wait minutes and more for the system to team you up with an opponent, you simply configure your readiness for these matches and go play survivor mode, story mode or training mode, or whatever. Once someone knocks on your door or screen or whatever, your current mode will be interrupted and you will be sent to fight the opponent. Once this interruption match is over, you can choose to return to your previous mode and restart the last battle that got interrupted.
This has its downside, as you are not being asked, if you wish to accept that match… Once I finally achieved the Bison fight in survivor on normal (this was not easy for my noobiness), I had 3 online matches interrupt that one final fight, so I had to restart that FINAL battle four times!!… Twice I had the upper hand and once I was done for, so one interrupt actually saved my hide. The fourth time I got Bison to his knees. So if you are not ready for interruptions in your offline play, just set the options and it will not be a problem.

The other great thing is, you can set your preferences like stage, character, costume and color scheme. Once a match starts, all of this is already set and chosen… gone are the days, were you were ready to kick some, but had to wait for your opponent to choose a character and everything else (and some people tend to draaag this out)… you simply get down and dirty MUCH faster this time around!

So the game plays great, but how does it actually look?
Well, not really next gen, I can tell this much. It has great lightning and great designs which are very plastic, but I had wished for more sharpness. It is a small downside, but I think it is that one thing that holds its graphically back. Do not get me wrong, it is a gorgeous looking game, but the art style is a hit and miss, like with some Telltale games, where Tales of Borderlands for example looked amazing, yet Game of Thrones was less than impressive.

    The downside
Now one thing is to be noted: Maybe the amount of bonus modes as seen in MKX is not really necessary, but a simple VERSUS mode with the option to fight against the CPU should be there. It is like the most basic (I dread to call this a feature, but ohh well…) It is like the most basic feature for any fighting game. But I do not mourn the arcade mode, or tower mode, as the survivor mode is much more fun.

The same can be said about the story mode, which should rather be called the Prelude or Intro mode. In simple words, it is a laughably easy two to three fights interrupted with the usual capcomy cheesiness, but surprisingly ugly presented. You do not get cut scenes with character models, you do not get some great anime shorts… you really get ugly pictures with dialogue. There will be a free story mode some time down the line, but it is not why I PERSONALLY am here.

In the long term a proper content stream might be keeping my attention for far longer, especially that it can be earned or purchased, but some of this stuff should be in game just to avoid the completely unnecessary launch “scandal”.

If you want a great fighter that actually works in online play, is easy to learn, hard to master and DOES look gorgeous this is the game. If you want offline play and proper next gen visuals, maybe try MKX first, and wait for SF5 to get more content and a better purchase price.

It's just a piece of full game wihtout arcade mode or history! Yes we know it's coming on future! But even trying to enjoy the multiplayer mode is hard to do!
The server is many times down and when not is not fast to meet another player.

    Sorry, but I expected more!
