  • Summary: Hey Captain - Now that you’ve got the Jolly Roger fluttering in the wind over your ship, you’re ready to rove the seas, take on merchant ships loaded with booty and storm formidable fortresses. Set sail and get your hands on all those legendary treasures that are just waiting for the picking.

One of the best pirate experiences ever created, but not the best adventure game out there. It's an interesting proposal that fails on offering an deeper story.

My relationship with the faction was positive, I had visited their cities and towns, but - for some reason - this one port just smashed my ship into smithereens before I could do anything and I respawned at my previous stop sans some of my cargo and money (the punishment for dying), cursing the fact that there’s no way to save your game.

Tempest is an amazing pirate simulator that can count on a very specific ship managing system and a pretty good action combat system for the naval fight. On the other side of the coin there are cyclic missions that offer to the player always the same repetitive mechanics. If you love pirates and always wished to be a sea wolf, this game could be made for you.

Tempest is available for just $15 and it scratches an itch few other games do. It’s a capable, if somewhat buggy, pirate adventure that offers up challenging combat and an open world to explore. Customization and late-game challenges courtesy of legendary ships and mythical monsters help round out the title, making it worthwhile if a little frayed around the edges.

While most of the game was rather bland, Tempest’s potential showed in some of the stranger quests that popped up (ghosts!), the large scale naval battles, and surprise sea monster attacks. Unfortunately, these events are short distractions from the lackluster nature of the rest of the game.

An extremely unengaging gameplay and bad graphics mine what could be an interesting addition to the pirate genre.

Even the cooperative mode can't smooth out the many bumps of Tempest.

I'll give this a 5/10 to offset the zero reviews below! It's an indie game and one mustn't expect AAA quality from it.

It has some neat mechanics, and it's one of few games which implemented any kind of sailing / wind navigation mechanics which take into account wind direction and speed. Still, the movement is arcadey, the story is... I forgot if there is any. The ocean feels tiny because the scale is artificially reduced. As a player you can see things MUCH further away than the NPC ships can. The NPCs sail straight into a tornado without even trying to escape it. Upon getting within a certain range of an arcady-looking tornado thingy - the NPC ships instantly turn into a box with floating loot. No ship wrecking or sinking animations...
It's OK to play this for an evening or two.

I agree 100% with what yosa1 stated in his review. I add to that the fact that the latest update on PS4 totally bugged the prices. All buyI agree 100% with what yosa1 stated in his review. I add to that the fact that the latest update on PS4 totally bugged the prices. All buy prices are now higher than all sell prices at every port and the prices no longer change. This means you cannot make a profit on anything and cannot earn gold to buy bigger ships and equip them. This totally makes the game pointless to play as you are now stuck with the smallest, lamest, weakest ship and do not stand a chance of getting very far through the game. Expand

This is an absolute joke of a game, its interface is ios all the way, pictures without descriptions, no tool tips, bad menu design, bad townThis is an absolute joke of a game, its interface is ios all the way, pictures without descriptions, no tool tips, bad menu design, bad town interface, terrible character progression design.

Attacking ships is laughable as they seem to get a wider firing range as opposed to your narrow bowling alley strip, your shots may never fire due to the unresponsiveness, when you do win, you get a paltry sum of floatsam, you do not get to take the ship to grab the full cargo or take it to port to sell, this is a shallow attempt when a major aspect as battle and piracy.

I won't go into other aspects, if you need a game that piques your nautical trading and pirate interests, this one is just a chameleon at best. Try uncharted waters new Horizons for the snes, I rate that better.
