How impressive is this grueling horror experience? I guessed the ending mere minutes into the demo earlier this year, and yet when it came time to play the full game, I still found myself getting caught up in the twists and turns. That’s right — even knowing the ending before going in, the journey was so powerful that I’m glad to have taken it, and would recommend that any fan of first-person horror do the same.

In ‘horror’ category The Beast Inside is my biggest and most pleasant surprise of this year. Almost all of its cogs are in the right places and the occasional grain of sand doesn’t interrupt the the game’s steady rhythm. [13/2019, p.56]

The Beast Inside is a great adventure, with tons of different situations and an interesting story. Bear in mind, though, it is not a survival horror, as it claims to be, although it does have some really good horror moments.

The Beast Inside is a walking simulator that tries to make the most of the horror setting to create a good but not perfect videogame.

I was very impressed by The Beast Inside not only for the visual aspects but also for the story of how the game was developed and came to be.

The Beast Inside is an imperfect horror, full of ideas jumbled up only to guarantee a little variety, without bothering to maintain the coherence and integrity of the story. But in its own small way, The Beast Inside is also a surprising game, both because it works before a team with very narrow experience in the field, and because it is able, with reduced means but valid ideas, to give life to a horrendous enveloping climate.

One can clearly see the ambition in The Beast Inside, but the developer's lack of experience means it doesn't actually reach those heights.

The plot of the game is very good. I like the last plot reversal very much.

But the game optimization is poor and there are a lot of jump scares, and I don't like the expression of this game. An agent with dual personality arrests the "ubiquitous" Soviet spies around him? And kill them in a bloody and cruel way without trial to delimit the front line against communism? The protagonist is a mental patient, not James Bond. And the double-headed eagle and Lenin on the Soviet lighter? The production team obviously lacks an understanding of the social history of the Soviet Union. This could have been avoided by changing the plot. Why do they want to discuss politics in the game? Mental patients do need medical help, but they do not need to be beautified by fighting communism.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Buckle in folks. I have some ranting to do about why this game is just another basic indie horror game. The plot starts out VERY typical indie horror: woman getting tortured followed by woman and her husband (the protagonist), new house, basic bickering that indicates they're gonna hate each other. The plot progressed and I had hope for the game. Then it became YET ANOTHER indie horror game. Instead of having a good plot, it basically just says "The protagonist is mentally ill!! With Dissassociative Identity Disorder! He's SCARY and obviously one of his personalities is a MURDERER!!!"
Stop stigmatizing mental illness. Don't support this game.
