Without spoiling anything, it is hard to explain how great From the Ashes truly is. The Detail is heating up and episode 2 provides it with the spark and breath it needs to last three additional episodes.

The Detail Episode 2: From The Ashes is not as strong or expertly crafted as the first episode, and its rough edges certainly show, but it provides a stable foundation for the next episode.

This second part gives us the impression that the best is yet to come. Up to now it has carefully enhanced its plot, increased the number of introduced characters and started giving signs that the consequences of our decisions will be depicted in the next episodes.

Even lacking the punch of the opening act, From The Ashes is a solid follow up that has left me wanting more. In shifting down gears for a slower paced story with less “shocking” moments, the foundation has been laid for more explosive future episodes.

The second episode of this detective game does not keep up the suspense and level of the first episode. The plot does not really unfold and just when it becomes interesting, the episode comes to an end. There is a lot of potential here, but From The Ashes does not add to the story at all.

If The Wire was a conversation with an audience about culture and society, The Detail seems content to converse only with other fans of the show; to speak in excited tones about their favorite parts.
