The Hong Kong Massacre is obsessed with fist-pumping, high-octane action and is a great offering for action fans that enjoy the likes of Hotline Miami. The first two hours are largely spent finding the game’s wavelength, but the pulsing energy of the design helps propel you along. Before long, you’ll be swan diving through windows and lighting up rooms with gunfire in pure action bliss.

The Hong Kong Massacre isn't as interesting as it looked, unfortunately. While gameplay is intense and challenging, the scenario fails to drive us through those very repetitive sequences.

The Hong Kong Massacre is fun to play at its core, but there’s no progress or evolution and soon the shooting becomes tiresome. Other causes of acute disenchantment include bland boss fights, lack of weapons and infuriatingly accurate enemies.

Challenging but repetitive, The Hong Kong Massacre has a barely-there story, but is big on gunfights and style.

A lover of Miami-like games can safely acquire it, aware of finding a series of playful patterns not easily pursued in other genres, but as regards the various elements of the work (from history to aesthetic choices, through the variety of enemies and possible interactions), we are faced with a concentration of banality.

The game starts off strong, you are vaulting over tables, knocking down doors and shooting in bullet time with great particle effects, but after a few missions boredom sets in. With only four firearms and no melee weapons, missions feel very repetitive. In the end i found myself using the fully upgraded assault rifle, jumping into a room, and activating slow-mo to clear it without a sweat. The game almost became too easy. Boss fights were a huge disappointment, following the same formula that could be outmaneuvered thanks to the rather dumb AI.

Overall i think they could have done better but it was enjoyable for a few hours.
