The Piano is an ambitious and interesting project that doesn’t quite meet its potential. The setting, story, and atmosphere are well realised and show that the writers have talent, whilst the game itself illustrates what a small team can achieve. Unfortunately, the glaring design issues in actual gameplay hold it back, and it becomes another game that may actually have benefited from being more of a walking simulator. The combat is entirely unnecessary, the stealth can be wildly unbalanced and unfair, and the piano mini-games need some kind of actual musical mechanic to justify their inclusion.

The Piano could be a decent noir mystery but for now it needs a lot of work. Clunky gameplay, numerous graphical bugs and extremely poor optimization are holding this game back from telling its intriguing tale of murder and madness.

Overall, The Piano is not what I expected and the game is let down by bad controls, lack of atmosphere and gameplay that doesn’t make you feelOverall, The Piano is not what I expected and the game is let down by bad controls, lack of atmosphere and gameplay that doesn’t make you feel scared or even slightly nervous. The graphics have been nicely put together and help raise the game slightly but at the end of the day I think people will find it a massive struggle to play. I do always feel bad almost pulling a game apart like this but if they were all winners you would have no space left for trophies. At the end of the day the developers give it a shot and missed the mark but on the bright side there’s always next time. Expand
