The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu Game Pack was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I can’t wait to see The First Order quests. This was exactly what the franchise needed. I’ve enjoyed most of the expansions, with Realm of Magic game pack being my favorite. Journey to Batuu blew that one out of the water and has zipped to the number one spot. As someone who loves Disney World, Star Wars, and The Sims, this was a welcome surprise. Who wouldn’t want to play with their favorite things in one of their favorite games?

The Sims 4: Journey To Batuu may just be another room in the virtual dollhouse that is The Sims but it absolutely nails everything that makes Galaxy’s Edge one of the most unique theme park attractions today.

The Sims 4: Journey to Batuu is an excellent addition to The Sims 4 and is absolutely worth the cost of entry if you find yourself in the middle of the venn diagram of fandoms for both Star Wars and The Sims 4. With three different faction questlines and multiple areas to explore, there’s plenty of story-based content to play through. But if faction quests aren’t your thing, Batuu is still an excellently designed world that is bursting with things to do and places to explore. There’s also a tonne of decor styles and clothing that you can use to give your Sim’s life a little Star Wars flavour. While you may not be able to build a treehouse for a family of Ewoks, Journey to Batuu has enough Star Wars-themed goodness that a little imagination and creativity can get you excitingly close.

While the planet of Batuu is visually pleasing, I found myself getting bored after the first few hours. Journey to Batuu can be a little a hit and miss depending on what kind of Sims fan you are. It’s a fun experience for the first bit, but if you’re someone who focuses’ more on builds than completing missions, this may not be the right pack for you. For Star Wars fans, I’m sure you would have a much better appreciation for this DLC pack than I did as it’ll likely scratch that tiny itch you may have for more Star Wars content.

The Sims 4 Journey to Batuu is a great addition to the library, but it’s reaching a point where I’d like to see how far Maxis can push the Sims concept with a new iteration.

If you expect an actual Star Wars experience from Journey to Batuu, you will be left disappointed. It is more like visiting Disneyland or a theme park: sure, you are surrounded by Star Wars aesthetics but ultimately all of this is just a stage for a small fun holiday for your Sim, complete with activities, outfits and presents. After the vacation is over, you will return to everyday life with next to no Star Wars vibes.

For all the good things about it, there simply is not enough content in The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu to keep it engaging long-term or to encourage players to bring their Sims back after one trip. Unfortunately, it seems this was not, in fact, the DLC Simmers were looking for.

I thought it was going to be bad, since we didn't want it as a first plan of pack, but I'm surprised. I'm a big fan of Star Wars - and of course it helps on liking it - and they put everything beautifully in the game. The references, the way of playing, even the usage of the light sabers, IT'S AMAZING! The only thing I missed were the lots, that's why my rating is 8, but I enjoyed this new version of the places. On the other hand, the price is not good. I think it should be cheaper, because there aren't a lot of things in the pack to make worth this price. But, if you have money to buy it, I really want you to give this pack a chance. Expand

EA has a Star Wars license, so I'm not surprised they've released this extension, but I'm not sure if that was a good idea. The advantages are droids and lightsabers, and the downsides are that you'll rather send a sim to Batuu once and it won't come back there again, because there won't be any reason why (as in the case of Selvadorada) and ugly elements from building mode. The CAS elements are fine, especially Rey's haircut is very nice, but they could do different races as occults, not masks. Expand

The gameplay is fun the first time but after you've played through it once the gameplay becomes tedious and repetitive. The Sims has been ignoring players requests for years and its unacceptable. The pack is unique though. A generous 3 Expand

The one thing that this DLC lacks the most is gameplay. There is a single linear questline completely little in terms of depth or replay value and doesn't add any new mechanics to the core game.

The aforementioned questline is broken into smaller tasks of 'go here, click that'. The promised 'length' of the experience comes from the frustration of trying to figure out which tiny little object you need to click on in the graphically detailed but hollow and static shell of a world. You'll spend considerable time trying to find a certain type of little terminal in a sea of similarly styled objects.

A big part of the Sims franchise is building on 'lots', but the lots available in this game pack cannot be modified (not without cheats anyway), and there are no empty lots to get creative.

The Sims 4 also has a very distinct art style, that usually all pieces of clothing and accessories as well as all objects and pieces of furniture adhere to. There have been 20 or so DLCs so far that pretty much all follow this art style. But some items in Journey to Batuu just do not mesh well at all with the art style at all and stick out like a sore thumb. A helmet, in particular, that is on offer as a CAS (Create A Sim) item looks like something an amateur custom content creater would make rather than something developed by the original developers. This is very immersion breaking and is the prime reason I've had to uninstall this pack after completing the questline.

There are no side quests or additional content to speak of. There is the ability to initiate lightsaber battle with other NPCs, but that too is just a reskin of an existing sword fighting interaction in the game and has no meaningful consequences to it.

All in all, The Sims 4 Star Wars : Journey to Batuu is nothing more than an advertisement for the Disney theme park and nobody should be paying money just to see an ad. Other than being a somewhat pretty to look at but mostly non-interactable 3D replica of the theme park, it has no redeeming qualities to justify spending money on it.
