Telltale's award-winning and chart-dominating The Walking Dead series returns with its third season "A New Frontier".

Continuing the emotionally powerful story-telling seen in Seasons One and Two, we return to one of gaming's most favoured characters - Clementine - a young girl who has grown up amid the horrors of the zombie apocalypse. We see her story through the eyes of Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, and via playable flashbacks from Clem's past telling the story of how she came to be on a quest for vengeance. In A New Frontier, players will discover what the world is like when civilisation begins to rebuild, and what sacrifices it will take to make society work again.

Given where Episode 2 leaves us, I am truly looking forward to see where A New Frontier goes. Javier is a charming character with a deep backstory, and they way his family is introduced throughout the past and present leads to an immediate investment in his future. Add in some shady actions on Clementine’s part, as well as the overwhelming desire to keep her around, and I feel that TWD is back on the right track. Telltale continues to impress.

A New Frontier does Telltale’s The Walking Dead series justice, giving the ending that fans have been asking for.

It's frustrating to see Telltale simultaneously at its best, and also just repeating itself. [Sept 2017, p.81]

Whilst A New Frontier doesn’t do anything differently with the gameplay, the story has always been The Walking Dead’s strength and, in this area at least, season three may provide the reversal of fortune that Telltale need.

An exciting adventure with interesting characters, but the recipe has been used to death at this point.

Where the season will end up is a question that even developers have no answer for. Media that was shown at E3 has no relation to released product; Clem’s voice actress mentioned that this episode’s story kept being rewritten on the fly, and work on the next one hasn’t even began. What’s even worse is that this special magic which made people fall in love with first season is nowhere to be found in A New Frontier: Telltale no longer delivers unique experiences; every new project seems to be made from the same mold. A boring, dumb, predictable game. You can’t find worse qualities in a game that’s all about choices and consequences.

The only thing I could criticise about the game is that the episodes seem to be slightly shorter than previous The Walking Dead games and despite fixing some animation issues, others remain. Expand

Unintelligent. It hurts to write, but that's the one word feeling appropriate when comparing this third season to the prior.

It's one cliché after the other, forced dialogue and one-dimensional characters. Hence it lacks all the heart that made Walking Dead season one and two such masterpieces. Even though it's the best yet in terms of aesthetics, Telltale must have assigned a new team of writers and director for this third season. It now feels, I'm sad to say, like an ugly walking dead they shouldn't have allowed to attack us like this.

    Poor Clem...

    TL;DR - Offensive to S1 and S2 players.
Rest in bloody peace: a series which once used to be great.

Short 60 minute episodes (and the awful story makes it even worse), Clementine is playable for 5 minutes per ep, false advertisting pre-release, this is Javier's story for whatever **** reason even though we never asked for this and just wanted a GOOD continuation of Clementine's story (but this is an ABYSMAL continuation - this shouldn't even be called S3), The story is awful, and Clem is just a side character shoe-horned in when she was pretty much the main character for the previous two seasons. This isn't Clem's story, this is Javier's story - so this shouldn't even have Clem in it if Telltale wants to tell Javier's story so badly because she's just shoe-horned in and a side character. All the false advertising pre-release doesn't help either. Her being in every bloody advertisement also doesn't help. We played as Clementine in Season 2 and shaped our Clementine, and now Clementine is a supporting character again plus her personality doesn't change at all depending on your choices last season. Easy choices and deaths don't affect you because there is not enough character development and the game just pushes you forwards without any chance to talk to characters like in Season 1 (and even S2). This review would be too long if I talked about every issue, but SOME of the main issues are up there. SOME of the main issues. S2 choices don't **** matter for ****
