A lovely Castlevania-like adventure with intriguing time-control mechanics. It also looks and plays great.

A charming, rock-solid metroidvania that should appeal to every fan of the Castlevania series, even though it would have benefited greatly from a more interconnected game world and better use of its time manipulation mechanics.

The shortcomings of Timespinner revolve heavily around the fact that the game is so short. It creates beautiful environments and combat systems, but by the time we’ve gotten into a solid groove the game is already over.

At first, Timespinner feels like a splendid new contender in the Metroidvania genre. It has some strong visuals and music, combat feels good, it offers maps we definitely want to explore and its story and characters are great. But this game feels a bit too easy, should have pushed the time manipulation idea and lacks epic feel in its boss fights, among other things.

The pixel-art is faultless and the gameplay is pleasingly reminiscent of the classics, but Timespinner doesn't offer much that feels new.

A strange metroidvania in that it puts its story wholly at its front, Timespinner is a unique time-travelling experience whose subject matter is more mature than it may seem. Plus, you get to have a partner dragon.

There is a lot of hate for this game just because it has a couple gay folks in it. What kind of planet are y'all living on?

The atmosphere is superb, the art style is absolutely breathtaking, and the combat is ridiculously fun. If the fact that same sex relationships exist is enough to cloud your review's integrity, you should not review games.

Tbis is an objectively good, fun to play game.

I loved the gameplayTimespinner is a love letter to both Castevania: SOTN and Super Nintendo RPGs like Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. I loved the gameplay for the most part, but the fetch quests and weapon grinding became tedious after a while. The music by Jeff Ball is equal parts schmaltzy Castlevania rock and mellifluous, somber piano. Great stuff.

I'd say my biggest complaint would have to be the story. The story, while enjoyable, didn't feel as fleshed out as it could have been. The overarching story, character interactions, and developing relationships just fell short in a lot of ways. We didn't get to /see/ or /feel/ these characters growing closer or changing, it just sort of...happened after a set point in the game. I loved the three dimensional depictions of LGBTQIA+ characters, but I would have liked to have seen more scenes with them or had more dialogue with them to really develop and flesh them out. As it stands, this is really ONLY Lunais's game, and I think the side characters really suffered for that.

If the devs can improve the overall quality of writing, I think a sequel could become an instant classic.

The beginning of the game was fun, towards the end I got bored. The level design is not very good, it repeats itself. The difficulty level is not set well, you have a little difficulty in 1-2 bosses at the beginning of the game. You become a god especially after half of the game, even though I didn't grind, I was killing the enemies in 1-2 hits. This causes you to get bored of the game quickly. The upgrade system feels unnecessary. Orb powers are unbalanced, especially Plasma Orb is overpowered. Using potions has made the game very easy, you are officially immortal. I liked the story and the music. Enemy designs weren't bad either. It was nice to go back in time and help the people there. The game is worth playing but don't expect too much. Expand

It copies SOTN and Order of ecclesia to the point of being a complete and utter ripoff, also it's hardly a challenge... There is just nothing interesting about this game, I could've said that the story is interesting, but there is almost no story(and the story that is in the game is in the form of text that you have to read and this is a METROIDVANIA GAME...)
    Final score is AVOID.

Graphically its very well done, but nearly all of it falls short of its potential.

The comparisons made to SotN are understandable but misplaced. In SotN you get a whole huge castle to explore while in this, its basically one level, connected to another with a very long hallway. Time traveling is between the past and the present. The one section you showed is probably one of only 3 separate occasions where time travel is needed or utilized. This is one of the biggest problems with the game, you have too many undeveloped gameplay features. You can stop time, you have different orbs, you travel through time on occasion, you have up to 3 different pets. You can level up items. All of it is shallow, and all of it is unbalanced. Nearly every boss after the first one is a gigantic push over because of how OP you become early on. You might have several orb types but there isn't any real reason to ever switch from the first 3 you get. Since you only have one level that you explore twice because of the two time frames, the game is over (about 5 bosses defeated) in less then 3 hours.

Finally, and this is more of a personal issue, the ham-fisted identity politics of the game ruin it as well. There is a character you talk to through out the game that turns out to be a trans person, and this reveal is a bonus for 100 percenting the game. Yes, you're reward is not a new item or power, it's someone's gender identity. You may also notice that nearly everyone in this game is brown, however the main villain is a white guy. The other villain is a woman, who after you defeat her is allowed to live despite the lore stating she at this point was basically a warmonger. Also she is a lesbian and her lesbian love triangle is what causes the war of planets, and this too is revealed in the journal entries. By the way, all the lore text and journal entries are high school level in writing and composition, it's frankly embarrassing.

By that point i had myself played through too much of the game to warrant a refund on steam, but I can still tell others to steer very clear of this one, its not worth your time. Play Order of Ecclesia instead.
