Nihon Falcom gets features from other games and then mixes them into an unique blend, that is Tokyo Xanadu. Combined with Persona's personality system, Ys's dynamic real time combat and Trails of cold steel and Persona's setting, thats pretty much TX for ya.

The fast, dynamic, real-time combat is what makes TX an absolute blast to play. It reminds me of the Ys games. The bright and colorful graphics, although rather dated, it's still holds up, even for 2017. The awesome soundtrack that kicks in during the boss battles is also perfect.

The issues of whats preventing me from giving this game a higher score are...the story and characters, the narrative. To be fair, story isn't really one of Nihon Falcom's (abbreviating as NF from now) major strength, but I still have to to bring this up. I guess, NF tried to make this game more story-driven, than just making it combat focused.

Now, lets start by addressing the issues.

First issue: Majority of the main characters, are nothing more than walking stereotypes. And then, there's the protagonist, Kou, who's personality is as bland as cardboard. Personally, I think a voiceless protagonist might have been better, in this case.

Second issue: is the storyline. Man, if there isn't a mostly dull and generic storyline as this, Tokyo Xanadu does that. To be honest, I didn't find myself too engaged or interested in its plot, the entire 30+ hours of my playthrough. But seeing the past NF games which focused more solely on just combat, I can tell they ARE putting more emphasis into its story with its recent games. Sadly, this just didn't work out too well in my opinion.

    TL;DR

    Pros:
    -Excellent combat
    -Awesome soundtrack
    -Bright and colorful graphics
    -Great boss battles

    Cons:
    -Dull and rather predictable Storyline
    -Stereotypical characters, generic protagonist

    Gameplay: 8/10
    Sound: 9/10
    Graphics: 7/10
    Story: 5/10
    characters: 4/10

Almost at the end of this game. It was longer then I expected (around 30 hours on Easy). The fighting is pretty good and dynamic. It's anAlmost at the end of this game. It was longer then I expected (around 30 hours on Easy). The fighting is pretty good and dynamic. It's an action style. You get RPG elements: recipe, relationships, equipements, weapons and powers. But they are not that deep and the upgrade path follow closely the story and is pretty much linear. Must of the cut scenes are fun to watch and the skipping function works well too. There is a bit of items that enhance the ending. The voice overs are japanese and are well done, but you can setup the text in English. The graphics are good, especially the characters, the texture can be basic at times. You don't need a super Pc to run this. It's fun game overall. I give it a 72%. Update: The true Ending was very interesting and enhance the story quite a bit. I must say that the story was quite good in the end. There is also an Ex+ which is an after the story...Overall I would give it a 78% because the story was emotional in the end and I enjoy the gameplay. Expand
