En aspecto grafico un 10. Asi como en el modelado de Lara y sus movimientos.

En general es jugable y divertido a ratos (aunque lo terminas en muy pocas horas), sin embargo no es un buen tomb raider

As a whole, I thought they did an excellent job of capturing the spirit of the original Tomb Raider while significantly improving the graphics, gameplay mechanics, interface, and player control of Lara. Underworld improves on Anniversary visually with more natural textures, reflections, and light/shadow effects. The Thailand segment of the game in particular is gorgeous. It also adds some terrific new gameplay mechanics like chimney climbing, walking on and vaulting from the top of poles, and rock climbing. It also made good use of the motorcycle in a couple of the later missions.

Where Underworld falls short of Anniversary a little bit is that the puzzles on the whole aren't as intricate or elaborate. Anniversary really set the bar high with some of the most ambitiously designed puzzles I have ever seen in a game. But Underworld is still a fun challenge nevertheless. I also, as amazed as I am to say this, miss a real boss battle in Underworld. Boss fights in Tomb Raider have never been that impressive and success is always based on your figuring out the pattern to beat it. Still, having those occasional showdowns do provide a sense of closure to the bigger chapters of the game.

The ending itself felt rushed, and I was surprised after completing the final puzzle (which was a fun and visually impressive scene), it went straight into cut scenes and then the game was over. Underworld would have benefited greatly from one final showdown between Lara and Natla to bring the trilogy to an epic conclusion. (she is there during the last puzzle, but merely as a distraction while you focus on completing it) The ending does wrap up the story about what happened to Lara's mother, but it doesn't feel satisfying the way it could have.

Underworld is still a must-play for any Tomb Raider fan, it is entertaining throughout.

There are some good ideas in this Tomb Raider!
    - Big and open level
    - The motocycle is pretty fun
    - The atmosphere is suceeded
    - Graphisms are nice
    - The level design too

    However:
    -The ending is very bad
    - The story is disapointing
    - IA is failed

A game with huge potential marred by bugs and inconsistencies. Leaps of faith and random deaths are the order of the day as one tries to discover which paths are allowed and which are decorative. Clumsy and over long character animations don't help matters and neither does occasionally getting stuck in the scenery. Disappointing (and short).

It's an ok game, for an older one. If you like puzzles and the challenge of running/grabbing/jumping, then this game is for you. About halfway I got a bit bored because every level was a puzzle...no action other than killing a few skeletons and spiders along the way. So I agree with the general rating of about 7.5. The newest Tomb Raider is of course way better.

Even though the game "starts" you off without a tutorial it actually teaches you tips and such along the way. If you need help with jumping and figuring out puzzles isn't that what walkthroughs are for? If you want to figure it out yourself keep trying until you get it or take a break and try again later. The Tomb Raider games obviously are for people who have to eventually stop and think on how to solve something in particular. I really enjoyed most of this series and I haven't finished the whole thing. The only issue I had with the game is the fact that there was so much water!!! I liked the classic running around, jumping on things, and not having to swim a whole lot. But other then that I seriously enjoyed the game!!! Just as I think I'll enjoy all the others. Expand

EA is learning the hard way and a relatively small publisher like Eidos should take notice and polish their games a lot more or risk releasing another flop. Then blaming piracy for their money problems. The bottom line is that good games sell and sorry games get pirated instead. Expand

The graphics and sound are pretty good in the game. The puzzles and combat were on the easy side but were good enough to get me to finish the game. Story is bad and uninteresting. The controls and camera are TERRIBLE. They often feel like they are fighting against you when playing. It is especially frustrating when you are trying to make a jump. They've never looked like the sort of quality game that I could embrace and point to as something appealing. Which is funny, because Naughty Dog basically took the Tomb Raider theme, made a gender change, and put out 2 really great games. That's kinda sad when you think about, that it had to take some pretenders to the throne to actually make good games.

Lara's a sex symbol in gaming, that's quite obvious. But that fact alone has never ever been able to get me to care about the games. Like, I'm as much of a red-blooded heterosexual male as the next gamer, but uh... if I want porn, I can find porn. It's all over the internet. Very easy to find. Even some super kinky stuff. I don't need it in my video games. And that whole idea of trying to sell the games based on Lara's massive boobs, that always turned me off, ironically. It just seemed very shallow and insulting and kinda desperate.

Now, I've actually only played one Tomb Raider game, and it was the last one, Underworld. Is it fair to judge an entire franchise on one game? If you think about it, the latest game in a series is supposed to have all the improvements and refinements and perfected elements of each previous game, right? So if Underworld wasn't gonna do it, I doubt my opinion would have improved by playing the older ones.

And uh, I hated Underworld. It really stunk to high heaven. I am really really glad I didn't play any TR games in the days of yore, judging by what I got in Underworld. First of all, the platforming is not that great. It felt pretty damn stiff and clunky. On its face, it's probably the strongest element of Underworld, but compared to contemporaries like Prince of Persia or Assassin's Creed, and it really fails. It's just not good enough anymore. Of course, there are people out there who actually dislike the sort of platforming in PoP/AC, so it's all personal preference. But I myself couldn't get onboard with it.

Now, the combat. That's a really strong factor for me in games. The combat in Underworld is complete **** and far far worse qualitatively then the platforming. First off, manual aim seems almost nonexistent. The level of fidelity isn't there, you absolutely aren't capable of aiming at longer distances at anyone. Either it's too inaccurate or your bullets just seem to phase out of existence past 15 feet. 15 feet! How the hell can a developer only provide gunplay within 15 feet?

So manual aiming is terrible. I guess they want you to use their lock-on aiming. But again, this only seems to lock-on within 15 feet. You can't fire at enemies at medium ranges. I have no idea why. And the whole idea of lock-on aiming is repugnant to me. I don't need to have the game aim for me. I didn't need it in Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake, Unreal, Rainbow Six, Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Crysis, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc... I basically haven't needed or wanted it in about 17 years. Yet that seems to be how they want you to aim in Underworld. I hated that, it felt lazy and out of touch with reality.

And the dual pistols contain infinite ammo. Why would pistols have infinite ammo? How does that make any sense? Where would Lara fit infinite ammo into her clothes? I hated it when Ubisoft gave infinite pistol ammo in Rainbow Six Vegas and SC Conviction and apparently they learned it from the Tomb Raider games. Also, the levels had a lot of peculiarities that really felt unpolished. Near the beginning of the game, Lara is onboard her fancy expensive yacht and is about to go diving for some treasure. Well, you can't actually explore this yacht, because there are invisible walls everywhere. There's some stairs leading up to the controls of the yacht, but you run into an invisible wall right at the stairs. Why would you do that? What the hell is the point of having all these boundaries on this boat? I dunno, but it was lame.

So yea, all in all, Underworld seemed like a terrible game. I did not finish it. The combat felt awful and the platforming was merely clumsy. Not a good experience, or even a mediocre experience.

This sometimes gets a bit repetitive, but there is enough variation and cutscenes to prevent it from getting too tedious. The balance between platforming and other types of gameplay is better than in TR-Anniversary (which was all platforming) but maybe not quite as engaging for the masses (and me) as the 2013 reboot (which had more action). The platforming difficulty is generally good for most of us, but on the easy side for hardcore gamers. I struggled with some parts, but always got through after a while. Some environments look really nice (Thailand), but others have rather bare and bland level design. The combat is fairly bad, as expected with this series. The checkpoint save system is also annoying, but not too bad.

Though some of the veterans will scoff, I find the optional “field assistance” hints an improvement over the previous games that offered no help at all - now I am less likely to need to look up solutions online when I get stuck. There is still big room for improvement in this area though. At least there are difficulty settings for specific things like enemy health and fall damage.

Lara's controls are a bit mixed. In some ways they are fine, but they also feel a bit nervous and she moves less natural (less inertia and animation flow) than in TR-Anniversary. As usual, sometimes the controls don't do what you want, causing many accidental deaths. Also, the camera behaviour can be disorienting, and the FOV is unpleasantly low. At least there is no mouse acceleration. The HUD is bad - you have to open your PDA to change weapon and see how much ammo you have. None of these flaws are game breaking though.

Tip: To improve the graphics beyond the max ingame settings, i suggest forcing AF to x4 (ingame AF setting does not work) and AA transparency to 4x supersampling in nvidia control panel.

I would say this is a game to get when on sale, and only if you are ok with a lot of puzzle platforming.

It has all of the pieces of whats to come..
Its just that its all poorly executed…
Youll notice from the start that everything about this game is awakward…
Its prince of Persia meets present day tomb raider with none of the smoothness…
The camera is all over the place and the platforming is just extremely stiff…
You never get a sense of where you should be climbing to or what you can and cant jump onto while traversing walls..
That being said I still with there was much more focus on this as well as combat…
Combat is sprinkled in here, you get unlimited ammo and some sticky bombs to take care of the rare encounter with enemies.. but theyre too rare…
This game is entirely focused on puzzle solving and switch throwing and this is its ultimate downfall
Tomb Raider Underworld feels like a chore…
The gameplay and setting are mixed up so that it doesn’t feel boring..
But the game just never gives you a break..
every corner you turn its puzzle room after puzzle room…. Figure out how to climb to these 4 different locations, pull a switch, go forward and do this over and over for 8 hours
It becomes an eyeroll and it feels overwhelming
The pacing is awful and thankfully with the reboot the figured out how to pace these moments out..
Let the player explore for 30 minutes or an hour not having to worry about switches and puzzles…
    Relax and enjoy the platforming..
Despite again the platforming feel awkward, I would’ve taken moments like this over the constant climbing around the room like spider girl…
Its interesting to go back and see where tomb raider used to be compared to where it is now…
Unfortunately at least for this title.. it isn’t fun to go back though..
    I give Tomb Raider Underworld

The troubling issues are the same old ones though. Camera angles can be worse than frustrating, but that is thankfully a fairly rare occurrence. The better you are at this the more fun the experience. As for Animal AI it is better, but you will notice its flaws as well. There is also clipping problems for NPC & Lara alike. The story is interesting though, and the environments too amazing to pass up. Unfortunatly you do run into invisible walls, especially in the ocean, but most of them are hard to reach and find out about anyway. Perhaps it is because I have studied cultural anthropology and the correlations drawn are indeed interesting for mythology buffs. In continuing the story of the Tomb Raider series, it serves this end well though, I haven't quite finished it. The graphics are pretty good and the fact that your not just jumping around ledges is nice also. It does fall short in terms of difficulty with climbing and sometimes you will die even though you don't fall far. The puzzles are not terribly challenging on the Tomb Raider mode, though I'm not sure about the other difficulty setting. It's worth a play through at least once or twice and easily fits well with the series. As for a comparison with Anniversary or Legend, in some ways (graphically, more combat, story progression) it excels but it's plagued with the same problems we have seen in other titles in the series. I really hope that the new Tomb Raider in 2012 will solve the problems with the camera and prove to be a better game overall. It's a move in the right direction, it just needs a little push. Hopefully when the new game is released in 2012, they will not have ignored the players. I think that could be a fatal mistake for the whole series, given it's age. Expand

All and all Underworld is still a rather great Tomb Raider experience, but with a somewhat flawed story line and weird decision making on developers side when it comes to some of the plot points.

Heart of the game, it being the tombs, puzzles, exploration, theyre all quite wonderful. Levels are really well designed, art style, graphics are great and hold up in 2019, atmosphere feels proper. The levels and tombs this time are more expansive and allow more freedom exploring them. Puzzles feel pretty satisfying and dont hold your hand. Platforming, despite some camera issues and some buggy sections, overall feels nice aswell. Lara's animations are really on point and feel suprisingly natural, she almost feels like a real person with her body language and facial expressions, that help grounding her into the game world. Lara's walking animation is somewhat glitchy though when youre holding down the walk button during gameplay, though in few cutscenes Lara takes some interesting angles aswell he he.

There is one annoyance however that ties into into core experience of Underworld, and its collectibles. They are so many, and while normally that wouldnt be an issue, but what makes it an issue is that collecting them is almost pointless, as you get pretty much no useful gameplay related rewards, just unlocks in extras section such as concept art. What you would expect from clearing a level from collectibles would be something like a new outfit for Lara, as it is in Legend, but in Underworld, its not the case. Collecting everything in one level gives you nothing, you have to collect everything across all levels to unlock 1, ONE F**KING OUTFIT ! However the most scummy part is, Xbox 360 version got DLC outfits and expansions, while PC players got left with nothing. This is annoying, but as stupid as it is, it honestly doesnt detract from enjoying the core of the game too much.

Combat in Underworld is lacking somewhat aswell, the similiar to Legend lock on gameplay returns, but it somehow doesnt feel that good here. It still gets the job done, but i would be lying if i said that combat was a blast. It can get especially cumbersome if you go for harder difficulty, as then the game will give you much less ammo for secondary weapons, give you less health while enemies become bullet sponges. Thankfully game allows you to custom tailor the difficulty, where you can adjust each individual difficulty aspect to your play style. One cool thing i liked is that the game gives you a tranquilizer gun if you for some reason want to spare animal foes like tigers, though the sleeping dart effect is so short that it almost renders the usage of the weapon meaningless, animals, or even tranquilized humans wake up very fast, they should've made the effect perma.

The story is where my biggest gripes lie with Underworld. Where as in Legend you constantly had your crew on the ear piece producing interesting banter, in Underworld they cut tha aspect out, i really liked the chatty Lara so i was kinda disappointed. But i also can understand people who prefer a more silent Lara adding to the isolated feel while raiding tombs, which Underworld gives you in spades. Without spoiling anything, the story kind of failed to live up to my expectations, while Lara is forced to visit interesting places and raid cool tombs, the core narrative felt a bit shallow compared to Legend. I also didnt like how they treated a certain character's death in mid game. The core revelation that set Lara on her journey initially, while made sense contextually, still i felt like it could've been handled differently, in a more satisfying manner. I didnt quite like visual changes to returning characters like Amanda and Alister, they just look weird compared to their Legend versions, less appealing to the eye. The norse mythos was great in Underworld and it was interesting to see how the game handled the intersectioning between myth and reality.

Lara herself still is the star of the show. She's tough as nails, sexy as hell, confident, intelligent and sassy. But she cant do it all, she has her limitations and has to work her butt off to reach her goals. She does have a character, a personality, and yes, she is relatable and likeable, despite how some extremely ignorant and vile people have smeared, marginalized and attacked her as a character in last 10 years.

On the bad side, the jumping system is just plain horrible. I don't recollect any other game in which I cursed so much at the game and at the character, just every time she would jump to her death! When you realize how bad it is you kind of try to do things very carefully but still it doesn't work way too often. I'd think it is because it's an older game, but then Assassin's Creed was out a year earlier and the jumping there was pretty smooth as far as I remember.
Plus, I think it's pretty stupid to expect you to collect some so-called treasures which have absolutely no meaning and purpose (besides unlocking some artwork as I read online and a bit of pleasure of finding a kind of a hidden spot). To me, it just made it worse. I didn't even bother picking those up even if I was running past them.
Another thing that frustrated me was that even if you were standing next to an object you still couldn't use it unless a hand sign appeared, very frustrating!

Overall, the game is worth playing even now in 2017 especially if you like adventure and exploring, and if you are not easily frustrated by other aspects of the game and can find patience to put up with them.

  1. A visually stunning, epic adventure that continues Crystal Dynamics' excellent run. We reckon it's the best completely original Tomb Raider (Anniversary was, of course, a remake) we've had in years, and is only let down by the odd control quirk and camera issue.

We like the way she moves – Lara excels in both body and environments visuals that are great. It’s still the good old Tomb Raider cliché, but is there anything wrong with that? We don’t think so. Do not underestimate the Underworld! [Dec 2008]

While the PC version has much sharper visuals and some tighter control, the camera can still hamper gameplay.
