If you’re looking for a short, colorful adventure to entertain you for a few hours, it’s hard to go wrong here. Just watch your step.

Toren is a short but sweet game about growing up, climbing towers, and fighting dragons, all shrouded in symbolism and cosmic metaphors. While it has its flaws - including a noticeably limited playtime - it's an incredibly unique outing from Swordtales that's well worth playing.

Because it's such a small game, there isn't all that much to it; it's not a game with something for everyone. Still, even if you're interested, remember that the game is only two hours long, even though it's a very focused two hours, some people may feel they have overpaid for the amount of content they are given.

A competent game which has little wrong with it, but just won’t leave an impression.

An attempt to pass a mediocre platformer as a work of art that has a deep meaning.

Toren's cryptic storytelling and focus on signs, superstitions, ancient beliefs and systems is often close to being too self-indulgent, but its aforementioned style is enough to see it over the line.

The story, the visuals, and most importantly the gameplay all feel like the first step in a long process towards developing a fully realized game. However, rather than continue to iterate on ideas like wind pushing the player back, using heat to create light and melt ice, or even just basic traversal, the game shipped as is.

    Negative Points:

    Bugs few, very few, not disrupting the game in any way, but it is quite possible to be noticed;

Although the history is good the narrative is not as good, and makes a great story somewhat difficult to understand.

About Gameplay, though he is not fantastic or innovative, is not bad, delivers what it promises, then, unless u go play expecting a fps, u must like the gameplay.

So why all the qualities of this beautiful game, and considering being an indie, in my humble and personal opinion, I advise everyone to buy, a true work of art that can be compared to games like ico and the journey, respecting the proper proportions .

The decent : graphics, they get the job done, even a bit more since they fit the mood.

The good : ambiance, story, pad support (pc alright), music.

Rant : finishing this game was pleasant. It's short but cheaper (during sales) than going see a movie.

Has a few bugs, a few textures look bad and the facial expressions are a mess.
BUT if you can ignore all that, what you are presented with is an amazing artistic drive with colourful sights, charming animals, sunlight looking through the cracks of the mighty tower you are trying to climb while listening to an amazing orchestra soundtrack with stunning timing to make it all a spiritual journey I'd never thought I would be faced with in this game.

Also loved the metaphors and philosophical focus that leaves us room to make our own understanding of the story behind Toren.

All in all, the game should've been cheaper but I still recommend you to try this 2-4h gameplay.

What gameplay there is, isn't conceptually bad, but it's crippled by absolutely awful unresponsive animation-driven character controls. The camera usually works against you, and it's not always obvious what bits of the scenery are navigable.

The game feels more like a student project than a professional release, and I'm not just talking about the game's microscopic length. All the student game tropes are here, most obviously a massive emphasis on boring, slow "arty" bits filled with pretentious, meaningless mystical twaddle. It honestly feels like a bunch of students just played ICO and then went off to bang this out as their finals project.
