The tutorial is great, the matchmaking system works nicely, and the game even knows enough only to send you an email reminder about your turn when you are not logged in. It’s like Playdek thought of everything...It’s not so much about whether the game is any good. It’s whether it’s any good for you. It’s more than just good for me.

It was a beautiful board game. And now it is a beautiful interactive experience. Poker, card tactics and Risk-like conquest merge and draw you into a world of scheming, bluffs and Cold War.

As a board game conversion then, Twilight Struggle succeeds in delivering a faithful, relatively slick digital experience wrapped up in a mostly pleasing user interface.

This is a really good adaption of what many consider to be the best strategy board game of all time. The huge advantage of using the digital version of the game over the physical version is that the computer will keep track of the myriad of events and effects that are in play. No longer do you have to remember that Nuclear Subs allows you to coup a battleground, but your coups all cost you 1VP because of Yuri and Samantha. Anyway, it's like having a friend sit down next to you and do all the busy work so you can focus on the deep strategy of this exquisite game.

If you're new to twilight struggle, you'll probably find the AI challenging at first. Over time, you'll discover that the AI is pretty crap, and you'll easily steamroll it every game. The matchmaking system is good enough if you're looking to play human opponents. I've played games in under an hour, and I play with a buddy who just wants to do one turn a day (we set the game timer to 45 days).

Anyway, I can't recommend this highly enough as a great way to get into a terrific board game.

Enjoyable adaptation of board game I have never opportunity to play.

AI is smart - or it could be me not being intelligent enough :), so single player is enjoyable.

I think I should give this game higher score than 7, but I somehow feel it would be wrong to do it. Maybe reason is, that it is just straight forward adaptation, adaptation that was done really well but nothing else above it (as far as I know).

Maybe they should have add option to either play original or modified version they could/should have created.

Anyway, I really enjoy it. I gave it 7, although I think for someone who doesn't expect more than excellent adaptation that this game is, it should be 9.5 (-0.5 point for minor technical issues)

This adaptation is well done: The overview is very good, the KI is much too good. The tutorial is smart, it explains you this complex game in few minutes.

So what could be better? There is only 1 difficulty. I am sure, it could be easy to implement at least 3 difficulties. 5 would be better or even more. There is a handicap, but this is not enough. Unfortunately the KI is very hard, so it is frustration in the beginning.
When the KI plays a card it is shown much too fast, so I have to look in the last play area very often.
It takes too much time to wait for the turn of the KI.
More Mods or easy options to change the rules would be nice. For example I play the board games with minor changes to reduce the luck factor: A 6 = 5 and a 1 =2 in the dice. And I have a joker card to repeat a roll. This card is played like the china card: When you use it, you give it to the opponent.

    So 7/10 from me

I wish I could rate this lower. In over 50 games, I'm a relatively average player online. It seems that the luck is extremely swingy. I can'tI wish I could rate this lower. In over 50 games, I'm a relatively average player online. It seems that the luck is extremely swingy. I can't tell you how many times i've rolled a 1 on a coup or failed favorable realigns, but then space race a card and BOOM, a 6. Or fail multiple times to remove Bear Trap/Quagmire. The game, imo, is not balanced very well, but maybe it's just not the game for me. I've had multiple consecutive games where OPS were completely unbalanced in favor of one player over another. The tabletop version just feels very different then the online. Expand
