A technically brilliant port of the most excellent strategy game gives you an order to join the war of Gallia. [Issue#249]

Valkyria Chronicles is a timeless classic, and this exceptional PC port only manages to improve upon it.

Valkyria Chronicles is gorgeous, engrossing, and not for the impatient. In other words, it's a great fit for PC gamers, who'll hopefully give the underappreciated Valkyria a wider audience than it found on PS3.

The strong story and gameplay remains intact, despite some small hiccups.

Valkyria Chronicles is a good strategy/RPG that blends different gameplay elements together with an enjoyable outcome. Its story wraps up themes about war, friendship and racism, while its comic-style graphics age well, and its music is memorable. SEGA also delivers a decent port with all previously DLC included.

Valkyria Chronicles game is a tactical and story-oriented RPG in Japanese style, which features a unique combat system, beautiful visuals and also some annoying problems with controls. But you definitely won’t be wrong if you give the game a chance.

Valkyria Chronicles is an interesting title that certainly takes some of the core ideas of the Japanese role-playing game genre and twists them in innovative ways, but the whole package has not managed to fully capture my attention.

The combat is turn based and very tactical, hard enough to force you to think, but not hard enough to be frustrating. The plot, despite having a lot of cliches, hold its grip on you from the beginning to the end. The characters are very likable, and before you know it Squad 7 will be your family too. It took me 30h to beat the main campaign, without rushing it and ignoring the skirmishes. Highly recommended if you're looking for a turn based tactical combat and a good story. Expand

I missed it on PS3, now it's almost impossible to get it (because it's released only on BD) and now such a gift for all PC gamers, what can be better?
But there's a warning for everyone: you can become emotionally attached to your squad members and cry every time you lose them, beware :)

Anime style story-driven tactical RPG about courageous Squad 7 of militia fighting a hostile nation that invaded beautiful and peacefulAnime style story-driven tactical RPG about courageous Squad 7 of militia fighting a hostile nation that invaded beautiful and peaceful country of Galia.

    PROS:
    - Beautiful comic book style graphics.
    - The game uses fictional countries and nations, but definitely has a WW2 feel. If you like WW2 themes (I do), the game is great.
    - Fine character development and touching story.
    - Good voice acting.
    - Good music.
    - Lots of tactical options. Every unit serves its purpose. Multiple options to win every battle.
    - Some levels are challenging, but as a person that sometimes has to refer to tutorials and FAQs, I was able to complete all by myself.

    MEH:
    - AI moves might be better. There are times when enemy is able to ruin you, but instead of destroying one tank, delivers equal number of attacks on both your tanks. So you have a feeling that AI goes easy on you. There is no difficulty setting.
    - Japanese dev had to squeeze a cute winged piglet there. It serves no purpose at all.
    - There are times where it is sort of naive, but it's still good.

    CONS:
    - Controls are sort of clunky, definitely prepared for gamepad, not a mouse.
    - Your tanks get stuck.
    - Some parts are unskippable, which may be painful, because sometimes you know you royally screwed up after enemy's first move and you'll need to reload from save for sure, but surprise surprise, you have to wait for enemy's all moves to do anything (it can take 2-5 minutes).

As you can see, important stuff in the game is really good. There are some nuisance bugs and glitches, but it's all within norms. I recommend Valkyria Chronicles wholeheartedly.

Very nice port indeed. This is a turn based strategy-role playing game to be more precise. You have your Japanse and English dub options on the menu. Also game has beautifuly crafted frequent cut scenes. The gameplay is just fun. There is plenty of variety in gameplay, bunch of different classes, upgradeable and modable weapons etc... The story is good too. Just beautiful, I suggest people who love turn based strategies and JRPG's to buy this game, it's worth every penny. Expand
