A technically brilliant port of the most excellent strategy game gives you an order to join the war of Gallia. [Issue#249]

Valkyria Chronicles is a timeless classic, and this exceptional PC port only manages to improve upon it.

Valkyria Chronicles is gorgeous, engrossing, and not for the impatient. In other words, it's a great fit for PC gamers, who'll hopefully give the underappreciated Valkyria a wider audience than it found on PS3.

The strong story and gameplay remains intact, despite some small hiccups.

Valkyria Chronicles is a good strategy/RPG that blends different gameplay elements together with an enjoyable outcome. Its story wraps up themes about war, friendship and racism, while its comic-style graphics age well, and its music is memorable. SEGA also delivers a decent port with all previously DLC included.

Valkyria Chronicles game is a tactical and story-oriented RPG in Japanese style, which features a unique combat system, beautiful visuals and also some annoying problems with controls. But you definitely won’t be wrong if you give the game a chance.

Valkyria Chronicles is an interesting title that certainly takes some of the core ideas of the Japanese role-playing game genre and twists them in innovative ways, but the whole package has not managed to fully capture my attention.

The combat is turn based and very tactical, hard enough to force you to think, but not hard enough to be frustrating. The plot, despite having a lot of cliches, hold its grip on you from the beginning to the end. The characters are very likable, and before you know it Squad 7 will be your family too. It took me 30h to beat the main campaign, without rushing it and ignoring the skirmishes. Highly recommended if you're looking for a turn based tactical combat and a good story. Expand

10/10. Originally played it years ago for PS3, and since it's just being rehashed to the PC it's pretty much the same. Excellent story and10/10. Originally played it years ago for PS3, and since it's just being rehashed to the PC it's pretty much the same. Excellent story and characters, great graphics, unique battle system and ranking, unique theme, awesome soundtrack, and it's a good game from start to finish. I cried at one part just because the story was so well done and I was THAT attached to the characters in the scene (you'll know which scene when ya get to it). It's at a very good price ($19.99) so it isn't like it is killing your pocket.

If you love strategy, warfare, a good story, history, or just video games in general, this is a must have! 2008 Strategy game of the year for a reason! I literally have nothing bad to say about this game! if you like this, there is a sequel (and a third one released only in Japan) for PSP! Share your feelings about the game and let your opinions be known so that Sega might just release another VC, or at least put the trilogy on the newer consoles (hopefully PS4, PLEASE SEGA!) One of my favorite video games of all time. I'm still looking for a PSP to be able to play Valkyria Chronicles 2 :/

It's really, really good! This is a title that gives me hope for the future of ported PC games. It's just that good. It's got everything to it; a solid story, meaningful, memorable characters you wanna save and keep alive... and even date, exquisite gameplay, and an art style that's filled with much love and soul. It's got the problem of Anime characters being young but seemingly having experienced the world over and much more, but it's got way less of that, and angst, compared to the dull characters you'll find in most later Final Fantasy games. The soldiers in your team have wonderful stories behind them. The only gripe I have is that the turn-based RPG gunfights have poor ballistics and unexplainable misses. But these faults are minor as this game, by some miracle, got so many things right, it's a classic. What happened to Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 is a travesty that needs to be corrected. Great games like these should not be bound to their platforms. PORT THESE GAMES TO PC SEGA! Expand

CONTROLLER SUPPORT: YES! Button prompts are Xbox 360.

    ACHIEVEMENTS: YES!

GRAPHIC OPTIONS: YES to resolution/fps/hz! NO to more advanced options (but that's okay--ingame assets scale to resolution, and the game has a very specific artistic style that would be ruined if we had greater control over most of the settings like shadows and stuff).

REBIND CONTROLS: YES, but not each individual action; any actions are tied to the same key (i.e. Confirm/Crouch/Climb/Attack are all one key).

MOUSE SUPPORT: YES in 3rd-person, YES in Tactical View (cursor fixed to center), NO in menus (must use wasd/arrows).

GRAPHICS: In-game graphics are beautiful, scale incredibly well to resolution. Pre-rendered cinematics, however, are locked to 720p and were not remastered for the PC release. Still look great thanks to non-realistic art style.

Because of its abundance of Ragnite ore, which takes the place of petroleum in the game setting, the neutral nation of Gallia comes under attack from the East Europan Imperial Alliance, which is itself engaged in a war with the Atlantic Federation.[6] Players take control of a unit of the Gallian Militia, dedicated to repelling the invasion. The game's visuals, which use Sega's CANVAS graphics engine, resemble a watercolor painting in motion. Expand
