The thrill of the unpredictable was the driving force behind this charming and spirited rogue-like heister.

Void Bastards is a pure, crystalline distillation of the immersive sim genre - all the feeling with none of the fluff. Full of variables, it invites the player to experiment and be experimented upon.

Void Bastards is a fun and fresh mix between classic first-person shooter and modern roguelikes. Focusing on giving the player more problems than punishments, Blue Manchu has crafted a game that is fun from the beginning to the end. Furthermore, its aesthetics and graphics are simply gorgeous. One of the greatest surprises of 2019 so far.

Despite its faults, Void Bastards is still deeply enjoyable. The humor and the art style alone are enough to make this a must-have, but the combat and vast array of weapons and upgrades makes Void Bastards an experience you should not skip.

Although it would benefit from being either a bit shorter and/or having a bit more variety, Void Bastards is easy to recommend. It looks unique and has enough fun baked in that failure rarely feels frustrating or punishing. Fans of action games as diverse as Bioshock or FTL will enjoy it and anyone who chuckles at games like The Stanley Parable will feel at home with Void Bastards’ sense of absurd humor.

This game is an idiosyncratic joy – a brash, clever, juvenile head-trip, messy at the edges but all the more likable for it. It is loaded with brilliant pop-culture references, channeling not just Adams, 2000AD and Tank Girl, but also anime and 90s industrial dance music. Void Bastards is Cowboy Bebop meets Trainspotting, on a night out, in a galaxy of death.

Void Bastards draws easily the attention thanks to its charming comic aesthetic and to the cel shaded visuals. Moreover, its frenetic pace means that you could spend less than an hour at a time and yet feel like you have a fulfilling experience. Alas, the different enemy types and spaceship designs start to get repetitive a little too soon, changing the sense of excitement to tedium far before the rescue of our ragtag group.

The best indie game of 2019 and the best roguelike game in my opinion. Visual and sound at the highest level. There is also great variability

TheVoid Bastards is a great game and highly recommend it for anyone. First of all the visuals are absolutely stunning and gorgeous. The game-play is smooth, fun and satisfying, while you go through each ship looking for loot to help rebuild your own ship. It will have you on the edge of your seat while you're either running from an enemy about to kill you, or on your last seconds of oxygen. Can you get what you need and make it out alive. Well why don't you go see and try it out yourself. I for one can say its one of the best I have ever played. Expand

If not for creativity, this game excels at dispensing a good challenge,

it sort of like FTL but with an fps dungeon as the combat.

Its a decent FPS roguelike, but there is nothing to keep you coming back after the initial novelty wears off.
Every reviewer that spent less than 10 -15 hours playing Void Bastards before writing their review is negligent. Thats probably all of them, which would explain the scores.
As you start to become comfortable with the game and its systems, you will realize there is nothing to play for, and move on to something with heart.
They made a competent experience that is very thin and soulless. Its not worth the initial asking price considering the quick sell by date.
There are so many more worthy candidates for your time and money.....these are not the Voids your looking for.....you may go about your business......move along,,,,,

Great graphics, great world, bizarre enemies that spout very odd lines, great atmosphere. My only issue is that after playing it a few times, I didn't want to play it again. FPS credentials fine, a bit slow and not entirely complicated. A fun game to load up for a short play. Expand

So you're telling me that someone is freeing those prisoners only to send them on missions almost butt-naked, with no medicaments, a five minute worth of oxygen and only a handful of ammo, yet that someone expects them to succeed? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
For a game that seems so keen on reviving the old school spirit of games like System Shock and Bioshock, it certainly doubles down on their negative aspects, yet offers little to no positives, which is the exact opposite of what a good spiritual successor is meant to do.
