  1. It's rare that a videogame can remain just as relevant today as it did at the turn of the decade, but precisely because of the stylised graphics, simplistic physics and endless customisation options, Worms remains evergreen to this day.
  2. Worms: Reloaded is a very welcome return to form for Team 17. Reprising the game's classic 2D battlefields, Reloaded pits two customisable platoons of comic worms against one another in hilarious trajectory-based warfare.
  3. Although Worms Reloaded has its share of rare but notable problems, it is without a doubt the pinnacle of the franchise, the single best and most complete version of Worms to date.
  4. Worms is back, and it's bringing hilarious, strategic, turn-based strategy mayhem with it. For only $20, it's strongly recommended for most strategy gamers or people who are looking for something different.

This is the biggest, prettiest Worms, yet. Strategy fans will find one of the most fun multiplayer games around, and there is plenty to do on your own, as well.

We celebrate Worms return to the PC and hope them to maintain the same health in their next iterations; although Team 17 should be careful and avoid stagnate the formula, adding more new gameplay features to foster players.
  7. The good old Worms is back on pc and it's looking better than ever. A lot of missions and game modes will take a lot of time to complete, and the multiplayer it's more than enough of a reason to justify the purchase for old-time fans of the series and newcomers alike. The only criticism we have is that in 15 years the gameplay remained basically unchanged from that of the original title. It's still great fun, but maybe it's time for something new.
  8. They've put in more weapons, game modes, and customization while keeping the basic game underneath unchanged. If you enjoy turn-based strategy or simply exploding barrels of oil on top of your friends, you'll enjoy Worms: Reloaded.
  9. Worms Reloaded is a love letter to the fans of the series from Team 17. The title is basically everything that is good from each of the previous iterations of the title with a fresh coat of paint and a few new features.
  10. However, considering how slow, confusing and unappreciated the 3D versions seemed, a lightweight remake for today's networking capabilities is more than welcome if you're longing for this stuff.
  11. Again, for all but the most obsessed longtime fans, there isn't enough new here to warrant a fresh purchase. However, anyone looking for the best possible Worms experience will find it here, and lapsed fans who haven't played since the late '90s just might rekindle their interest in the franchise.
  12. Worms is still a great game for a quick multiplayer session, despite a lot of modes the single player however lacks motivation.
  13. Playing Worms Reloaded made me feel like I just opened a time capsule from 10 years ago. It shows that even such a simple game of worm warfare, can stand the test of time, and still be as entertaining as it once was.
  14. At $19.99, Worms Reloaded is a solid entertainment value-especially for those of us who love the smell of banana bomb in the morning.
  15. These hiccups aside, Worms Reloaded is a welcome, engaging and worthwhile title, and a measured balance of old and new.
  16. The latter episode of such a lucky brand is the best one for PC too: the "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" philosophy here is at its best, but Worms Reloaded is damn funny anyway.
  17. The latest entry in the long-running Worms series further refines the 15-year-old formula and is one of the best yet.
  18. It's Worms like you know and love it, but now with an up-to-date graphics style. The comeback is great!
  19. Reloaded features plenty of single player content to hone your skills but the game like its predecessors is at its best in its multiplayer modes and for any fan of the original Reloaded is a must have.

Worms Reloaded is a pretty and engaging game that, while light on the single player replayability will charm and endear with its quirky weaponry and unique brand of multiplayer carnage. There is no other game series like it and the gaming world would be diminished without the presence of the endless warfare of Worms.
  21. People who have been playing the series since the early versions may want to skip this skip this edition for a less expensive one later on as well, or just wait for the game to be discounted somewhere.

In conclusion, Worms Reloaded is simply the tried-and-tested Worms formula jazzed up a bit with nicer graphics and a few additions.
  23. Worms are back in a new adventure, since the XBLA exclusive Worms 2: Armageddon. One of the most addicting strategy game strikes again, available only via direct download on Steam.
  24. But if you've never played Worms before, or absolutely need a PC version, now's as good a time as any to jump into the slimy, slithery, British-y chaos. 15 years in, and this war's just getting started.
  25. The Worms formula works again with Reloaded. May be its not a breath of fresh air, but its gameplay values remains unbroken.
  26. Wormed its way back into our hearts, but don't expect the relationship to be any different.
  27. Worms Reloaded may not offer enough in the form of new content for those who have played past games in the series, but taken on its own the game is enjoyable and newcomers should definitely consider giving it a try.

Worm mayhem is the best tradition of the series fortunately returns to classic 2D visuals. It has every ingredient you remember from previous installments... but nothing more. [Issue#196]

And i was really looking forward to this one. But this is not the updated Worms Armageddon everyone was waiting for. This is a PC port of the lousy xbla and psn version. The controls are sketchy, the physics awfully off and simplistic, and the HUD looks like a placeholder for beta testing. A blue box with yellow text. That's it, nothing more, nothing less, extremely boring. All customisation options are gone, except which hats you fancy on your Worms, and their voice. Seriously ?

Basically, it's like a cheap rip-off of Worms Armageddon. Everything is off or don't feel right. The AI is terrible. Last time i played, the computer managed to kill ALL HIS WORMS in one single shot. And my Worms weren't even near. I think he wanted to end his misery.

My advice ? if you still have windows xp, find yourself a copy of Worms World Party, which still run on almost every computer flawlessly.

Team17 had really dropped the ball after worms world party, when they decided to go 3d, so I was excited to see that they seemed to be going back to their roots.
The first thing that struck me upon starting up the game was the menu. Everything looked huge, so I actually checked to see if the screen resolution had changed to 640x480 or something. Nope, that's just the way its supposed to look. It was rather annoying trying to create a team, because you can only see one thing at a time. What I mean is, if you want to select a hat for your worms to wear, you have to scroll through each one individually. You cant look at them all at once, or even see a full LIST of them. Same with everything from the gravestones to the soundbanks. I proceeded to play through the entire single player campaign in a few hours. The missions themselves were nothing impressive. Just a collection of increasingly difficult deathmathes interspersed with some simple puzzles. I was glad to see that the graphics and animation were much improved from the old games, but the gameplay didn't feel anything like what I remembered from the games I played 10 years ago. Many of my favorite weapons were nowhere to be found. Much of the depth from the old weapons is gone. For instance, you can no longer set grenades to have a high bounce or low bounce. Girders can no longer have their length doubled. The ninja rope has been nerfed into oblivion. While you used to be able to go up and over things with it, now you can only expect to swing along from the ceiling. Controls for certain things felt weird. For instance, the homing missile. When you have it selected, the arrow keys will no longer move your worm. Instead, they move the cursor so you can choose where the homing missile should go. But isn't that what we have a mouse for? Another huge annoyance is that when your turn comes up, everything freezes either until 5 seconds has elapsed, or until you press a button (and left clicking the mouse doesn't work). Usually, you might want to take a look around the playing field during this time, but you can't do that until you press a button to start your turn.

At this point, I started to feel like nostalgia was getting the better of me. Nothing felt as good as the game that I remembered. But were the old games really all that good to begin with? Often when I go back and play old games, I realize that they kinda suck by today's standards. So if I just played one of the old worms games so I could see how badly it stood the test of time, maybe I would be able to appreciate this new version a little more.
So, I managed to find my old Worms Armageddon cd, and proceeded to install it (yes, it works on windows 7, but you need some patches). I expected to be betrayed by my memories, but instead I found that the gameplay was every bit as fun and entertaining now as it was 10 years ago. The missions were much more creative and engaging. The training mode was much deeper, the weapon selection was HUGE, and the ninja rope behaved exactly how I expected it to. On top of that, the amount of options and customizations were overwhelming. I quickly found myself completely immersed in an 11 year old game, with absolutely no desire to play its newer sibling anymore.

I wasn't able to REALLY appreciate how bad worms: reloaded was until I had a chance to directly compare it to the game which is was supposed to replace. I can objectively say that in just about every area except graphics, the 11 year old Worms Armageddon was a much better game. It had better physics, more weapons, better missions, better training mode, TONS more options, a better interface, and can you believe it still have a thriving internet community?!

So my advice is to skip worms:reloaded, and pick up a copy of worms: armageddon. You really wont regret it.

The graphics seemed fun enough and the tutorial played like I was about to play an interesting enough game, despite many things not quite making sense or working how I would think. It'll grow on me, right? Nope. As I got further into the campaign I found myself calling the game stupid out loud... something I haven't done since I was a teenager. The enemy AI knows the perfect trajectory to hit you right in the face with a grenade the moment it is set to explode. It is so frustrating to attempt a fun trick only to have the enemy do some amazing ricochet off a microscopic/invisible piece ofland, off the bodies of 3 other enemies, and bounce up perfectly into your hiding spot. Meanwhile, half the time I found myself dropping grenades in front of me on accident because the controls have been made so basic that many keys/buttons share the same function. I think the NES controller has more buttons available than this game makes use of. Fire, menu selection, and rotate building pieces are all the same button and you can not change that in the slim options menu. By the way, don't expect great graphics, even if other 2D sidescroller games have looked amazing recently. They're outdated at best. I usually don't worry myself with graphics, but why make a 2D game in 2010 that doesn't look or play better than something made a decade ago? Full Review »
