So minor licks of new paint aside, Worms World Party Remastered remains much as it always has been then. Twee to look at and evolving little in this latest instalment but still horrendously entertaining all the same, it’s difficult to be too upset with Team 17’s newest release when it maintains the core of the series so commendably well.
It's only a "remaster" in a broad sense of the term, but fundamentally it's still the Worms World Party we know and love, but with Steam achievements, controller support and better compatibility on modern operating systems. Sure, the menus are in a low resolution, but I find that with the simplistic art style, it doesn't really matter. I'd even go as far to say that this game offers a superior experience to Worms Armageddon, for the same price on Steam. Don't believe the horrible reviews, this game IS worth playing if you liked the original Worms World Party.
Since the worms looks like the same ones like in Armageddon I had to buy this game as well. I must say that I prefer the sound effects in Armageddon. I don't think they should have remastered the game. If you are having issues with the game, try this:
Go to your game directory:
Steam/steamapps/common/WormsWorldParty
Locate the file "****"
Right click and select properties.
Go to compatibility and select "Disable fullscreen optimization"
Start up the game and go to option, make sure your Vsync is on.
Team17 did not promise much with this so called “remaster” (higher resolutions, controller support, achievements and improved audio) but still failed to deliver. Menus are in 640 x 480 stretched to fit whatever screen you have, Full HD during matches causes everything to be smaller, not more detailed, the game can’t keep the promised 60 fps and netcode is laughable. Apparently "Remastered" now means "Taking gems of your nostalgia, taking a giant dump on them and attempt to resell it back to you."
I don't know how you take a game this good and remake it so bad but Team17 managed to do the impossible. Ugly menus, multiplayer barely works and bugged to hell and back. Avoid like the plague.
Oh, Team17, why you do this to us...
Pros: 1080p gameplay, yay
Cons: Everything else, the menus are in 640x480 so it's a pain in the capital B to alttab and don't even try to use the overlay, this will make multi-monitor users have problems as well, there are no key bindings nor control schemes for keyboard/mouse, lack of graphic and audio settings, basically is just a copypaste of the original game interface, there's no good online (yeah, wtf Team17), no steamworks matchmaking, I don't remember seeing a direct IP connection so I guess you will have to use Hamachi and similar software to play with friends without lag, because there's just this UK Wormnet master server where I was unable to join a single damn match and there's no people whatsoever, "the perfect online gaming experience"?! yeah sure. Did I mention the game crashed 3 times in 20 minutes? what the hell? and there are people having compatibility and optimization issues as well in the forums. I heard people having FPS problems as well, so yeah, another strike.
Don't bother buying this, don't even think of it, is a copy-paste of the original game with no improvement aside from the 1080p gameplay. If you are wondering why I don't have this in my library anymore, it's because I asked for a refund, you should do the same. Developers should learn how to do a proper "remastered", don't give them your money so they can undestand that and stop releasing lazy games like this.
As much as i love original Worms World Party, i can look at this without hurting my heart. This is no remaster. Thus is just original game in 1080 with old 256 color graphics, 640x480 frontend, with dramaticaly high system requirements and (i dunno why) bugged multiplayer. Even Worms Reloaded was better.
