"XCOM 2: Alien Hunters is a clever piece of DLC that serves to entertain the most hardcore XCOM 2 fans around. With fundamental shifts to traditional gameplay and a new set of enemies to deal with, it’s an easy recommendation for those still trying to reclaim Earth." ... Read full review

"Alien Hunters is a great addition to an unforgiving and already difficult game, making it even more threatening. The new alien Rulers will haunt your every move, but you have a new arsenal to counter their motives. Also, you can wear their carcass once defeated." ... Read full review

Pros
+ 4 New Weapons each having a unique ability
+ New challenging alien "Ruler" units that move every action your troops make and can flee leading to multiple engagement between rulers and your troops
+ New customization for soldiers as well as unique armors that can be built upon killing Ruler Aliens
+ New story mission

Cons
- Possible lack of replay ability value
- Not a huge amount of content for the price
- The Snake Suit makes you look like Serpentor
- Still some optimization issues with some machines

The story mission is interesting, though ultimately just leaves you with more questions, but aside from that it essentially adds boss battles into random missions. Given how difficult Xcom already is--and the fact that most missions have relatively short timers--these bosses are potentially game-breaking. The bosses can easily take down an entire squad, so if you run into one on the way to escape or while already engaged with enemies, it can quickly ruin your chances of success. On the positive side, you do get a few new weapons that are pretty fun, and if you manage to defeat the bosses you unlock some awesome unique armors that will surely come in handy. If you're already an Xcom pro and want to spice things up a bit, this might be worth it, but if you're new to Xcom then it's likely to just be a huge headache. Expand

This DLC contains of a little bit of asthetic upgrades, a new story mission and with them the new 'Ruler' aliens.
Now, Vanilla XCOM2 - for me at least - is not an easy game, bad situations can snowball you into oblivion, getting spottet unintentionally at the end of your turn can prove devastating and the upgrades are slow and expansive - just like it should feel, the odds are against you here.
Alien Hunters however laughs at everything you've seen before and throws three Ruler Aliens into your face... which can and will devastate you. As often said, they ignore turns and just take an action after you take an action. Getting into fighting position? Ruler gets an action. Shooting? Ruler gets an action. On top of that, they (At least the last one) seem to be able to use special abilities with no cooldown... all while having absurd armor + health (the third one eg. has 100(!) health and 4 armor.... on the second easiest setting) Which is as absurd as it sounds considering they kill your soldiers in 1-3 attacks. And if that wasn't ridiculous enough, they also flee when damaged enough/enough time passed to appear randomly in other missions. Which is probably a timed mission. If it seems like I am venting my anger here... I kind of am to be honest. I had the ruler alone more than half of my squad including my highest ranking units two times now and there is no end to it. The only thing I can recommend is beginning the game and ignoring the Alien hunter mission that triggers rules until later.

Xcom2 still is an excellent game, but I am not willing to forgive losing tens of hours of playtime because of the balant overpoweredness of rulers compared to my progress in the game

The difficult is already there, but the encounters against the aliens rulers, completly broken bosses designed just to kill your squad (simple as that) in early missions, that have no logic, no sense and no backstory, and they only give you a stupid reward that don't compensate the difficult of the encounter.

Making a reward system, with online ranks or even multiplayer coop to defeat extra hard bosses in some kind of optional encounters, that can be much more fair, and make more sense. but this? This is, and forgive me, just **** Simple as that.

This DLC is by far the worst thing i have ever seen in a game. Seriously.
These Alien Rulers are not a great addition, they are just extremly unfair.
There is no tactic to kill them. They show up at the earliest missions. You dont have the gear to kill them, they just wipe everyone out.
Wow.
