Staying authentic to AFL rules, Arena Football will feature 8-on-8 play, including six players who play both sides of the ball, and the ability to send players into and over the walls with each exciting play. Fast-paced and high-scoring offenses allow players to launch an all-out aerial assault using playbooks created by actual AFL coaches. The arena comes alive with fans, fireworks and a rock-concert atmosphere. For the first time ever in sports gaming, an in-game telemetry system will provide real-time information about opponents such as passing tendencies, scoring history and player health. Players can build an AFL powerhouse in Season mode and win their way to ArenaBowl or challenge the best players in the nation with head-to-head online play. [Electronic Arts] Expand

  1. While it certainly lacks in the game mode department and the presentation can be a bit disappointing at times, the games plays great and does a great job of bringing us a good sense of what Arena football is all about.
  2. The passing game is tremendously fun, and that's where the bulk of the action happens. The job of video game QB becomes a lot easier when you don't have to worry about complex coverages in the secondary.

Priced at a frugal $29.99, Arena Football is a fantastic way to cure those post-Super Bowl blues thanks to the numerous spectacular plays you will witness every game. This game is really, really fun.

I have no idea why this title was even made. [Apr 2006, p.118]
  5. While Arena Football plays well and offers some decent multiplayer fun, you'll find better sims---"Madden", NFL 2k"--and arcade-style games--"Blitz", "NFL Street"--out there. [Mar 2006, p.91]
  6. If I only owned this game, I'd watch more television. [Mar 2006, p.102]

While the overall control scheme works well enough, kicking long range field goals through the notoriously tight uprights is far too simple. The limited playbook also gives the game a stale feeling and the half baked telemetry system fails to save the gameplay with largely unimportant statistical minutia delivered in eye-straining small fonts and obnoxious menus.

I am a HUGE arena football fan, so the rules of the game I was already aware of which most likely gave me an advantage to madden junkies. Having a hard time walking away from this game. Expand

If you are accustomed to playing MADDEN for the past 15 years since its inception this new take on football may give you some early problems If you are accustomed to playing MADDEN for the past 15 years since its inception this new take on football may give you some early problems such as remembering that linebacker movement is soley restricted by the defensive box between the 2 outside lineman and only 5 yrds. beyond the line of scrimmage or even more strange that if you have the lead late in the game the clock will continue to run just as long as you gain positive yards.May sound a little confusing but once you remember these tidbits this game is pure FUN! At only $29.99 it is well worth it. It's 8on8 football and it's ironman fball! Players play defense as well as offense. Fun factor is a 7 / 10, graphics 8 / 10, replayability is 8 / 10. The only downside to the game maybe the lack of deepness in the game as in MADDEN or NCAA FOOTBALL, both by EA SPORTS. My biggest complaint was that there is no play-by-play announcing booth, just a voice over the PA system. Not a bad job overall. Just remember not to compare this to MADDEN or any other FB title. Arena football is a little different kind of game. YOU WILL ENJOY THIS! Expand
