Lucia's tale alone, a cruel sonnet of self realization wrapped in a story steeped in religious overtones, is reason enough to buy this game. [Mar 2003, p.40]

What’s really missing is the intense, edge-of-your-seat close-quarter combat that made the first game so arresting.
  3. A title that still has camera faults, is far too easy in some of its boss battles, does little to increase the depth of Dante as a character, and little to freshen the formula that was so winning the first time around.
  4. The problem lies in a finicky third-person perspective camera that swivels around the protagonists. In many cases, it will switch angles right in the middle of combat, making it difficult to stay focused on who or what you're attacking.
  5. The problem is that the game was taken from its original close quarters setting and brought to a more open setting. Something about it just doesn’t feel right.

Unfortunately for fans, the whole experience can be summed up in one sentence: Too bland, too easy but looks good.
  7. 30
One of the most disappointing sequels in gaming history.

Cool game, this is ironic, its easy and bad but its fun sometimes and at times, still better than a certain zombie apocalypse game

Devil May Cry 2 left me extremely puzzled. First, the controls are perfect compared to the first. The evasion abilities are a plus. The graphics are amped up. Finally, the Devil Trigger is absoultely beautiful. Unfortunately, the storyline is the laziest I've ever seen, there is no common thread between missions and bosses. The lack of trash talking by Dante leaves me hanging. It would be better if there weren't so much time between fights. And where did the unique weapons and techniques go(ie: round trip, kick 13, meteor, and vortex) But, Lucia's nice. Overall its a good game with some very nice improvements, but the flaws are not ignorable. Expand

Controls are a little bit more clunky than the first game, the game is way too easy, even for a Devil May Cry game, your guns are overpowered and Devil Trigger only makes the fights even more boring, it pains me to say this but...skip this game until you played all games so you can understand why it´s hated, and if you´re going through all games in release order, skip this one because this breaks the flow of the difficulty curve of the original. And again, DMC2 is an okay game as a game but it´s a mess as a sequel. Expand

It’s got nothing on devil may cry one and three . the camera angles were complete **** **** hate it...Also there’s this walking glitch that almost makes it unplayable but I got through. The fighting mechanics just don’t do it for me. It’s like a downgrade. I give it 5/10 because it just doesn’t hold up to devil may cry 1 Expand

Not a very good game. Dante's disk is atleast DECENT. Dante moves very slugish, and is a very boring character. So, Play the first, Not a very good game. Dante's disk is atleast DECENT. Dante moves very slugish, and is a very boring character. So, Play the first, DMC3, because this game isn't even worth a look. However, if you want to play it THAT bad, rent it, or borrow it, however, I even have to say that's not even worth it. Expand

It shouldn't have been named Devil May Cry! This title is way too good for this disappointment.
