  1. This game should be avoided by all means. A complete game engine overhaul is much needed, along with a graphics engine rework, better and less repetitious dialogue.
  2. Barely playable. The benefits of GoDai's smart control scheme and the inherent coolness of the protagonist's formidable powers are mercilessly buried by shoddy collision detection, maddeningly poor frame rates, and a primitive animation system.

Though the game’s gliding feature is an inspired concept, trying to execute it, as well as most other moves, can be incredibly irritating due to extremely temperamental and unresponsive controls.

No, it’s not good at all. And it sure as heck ain’t gonna win any awards. But it does serve well enough as a mild brainless diversion. [Mar 2002, p.106]
  5. It's as if 3DO felt that the horrendous Core-designed, Eidos-published PS One game "Ninja" deserved an equally-flawed sequel that doesn't look much better than Activision's "Tenchu" games.

Like everybody in the office has said to me at one point while I was playing Godai, "I wish this game would Go Die!"
  7. Unresponsive controls and a laughable frame rate ruin an otherwise bland but conceptually sound game.
  8. The best feature in the game is without a doubt the music, which ranges from soothing tunes, to intense scores that set the mood for the action – it's some of the best music I've heard on the PlayStation 2 in a while… now, if only the action were there, we'd be set!
  9. 17
A horrendous combination of bad gameplay, graphics, character design, and a complete lack of charm. This is an affront to gaming.
  10. Godai sucks in ways that mankind was never intended to know, and exposure to its sheer awfulness will leave deep emotional scars that may never completely heal, even with years of intensive therapy. Stay away. Stay far away.

When I was a child he locked me in his basement. There was only a TV a playstation and this god awful game. He forced for hours every day for years. He would wipe me if I didn't say it was the best game I had ever played. Well I am free now and after years of intense therapy I have finally recovered only to be browsing Metacritic and see this cursed game and my abuser leaving a 10/10 for this God forsaken barren wasteland of a game. Bob D you may have stolen my childhood but I will not allow you to inflate this game. 0/10 Full Review »

Supposedly a third person action game GoDai gets virtually everything wrong. The fighting mechanics are ridiculous (It’s possible to make a great deal of progress by simply doing a slow motion roly-poly over and over again!), the graphics are barely PSone standard and the enemies only seem to know about three phrases that they choose to repeat every ten seconds.

It will likely provide you with a good twenty minutes of comedy gold but you won’t bother putting it back in your console again after that.
