Different, rewarding, intelligent, funny, and filled with memorable characters and weird creatures. It’s damn fun, too, and will keep you performing the repetitive duties required of a monster raiser for far longer than you’d ever imagine.
The combination of missions, discovering new eggs, and furthering the story keeps this game from hitting that stale spell that plagues many RPGs. [Feb 2002, p.83]

Fans of the original Jade Cocoon, as well as those enamored by games like Monster Rancher and Pokemon, will surely love this fascinating sequel.
Despite our disdain of the very concept of this game we did find it fairly engrossing.
It’s an interesting system that places emphasis on strategy rather than brute force, but, in the end, it still feels a little limited. [Feb 2002, p.38]
The beauty of Jade Cocoon 2 is impressive but much like a supermodel, when you site down to actually get to know it, there's not much substance underneath all the pretty packaging.
JC2 shows promise initially, but a quirky sense of humor and an endearing fairy sidekick aren't enough to save it from becoming repetitive.
