  1. Krusty Krab won’t hold the attention of older games for very long. Younger gamers will probably be entertained by the loopy level designs and crazy objectives.

Bad writing, average graphics, poor sound and gameplay with seemingly no direction and little resemblance to the Bikini Bottom world combine to bog down a really good storyline concept and what could have been a good platform adventure game, but instead feels like sections of platform adventure jumbled with poor flying and racing.

I'll give em this: It's never boring, always whacked out of its mind, and the control throughout delivers...Nunchuk or not. So in closing, may the Sponge be with you. [Dec. 2006, p.62]
  4. A complete disappointment. Far from fun, it holds you hand through level after level of bland action platform gameplay that makes you wish you could escape from this digital nightmare.
  5. For it to be so repetitive, so easy, and so filled with useless interruptions – is a colossal disappointment.

What a terrible shame, then, that a game with such weird possibilities really does end up being well...typical. [Jan 2007, p.84]
  7. We don’t care if it’s a kids game that parents will buy anyway, that’s no excuse for churning a pile of badness like this. It’s lazy, sloppy and one hell of a bad game.

I tested it out with no anticipation and I was surprised. This is a real fun jump´n´run with funny ideas and a lot of fan service. Especially the level design convinced me. Really a good game! You get to play as 3Creature from the Krusty Krab is a game with plenty of good ideas, that are just implemented in a mediocore way. You get to play as 3 different characters, and each character has a few of their own levels. Several of the levels feature many darker textures and settings than you would expect from SpongeBob, which doesn't immediately mean that they are bad, but they feel out of place, as they don't even try to fit the general tone of SpongeBob. A lot of the gameplay is also just bland, and more repetitive than it seems to appear at first. It is unfortunate, as this game is packed with unique ideas and concepts that, if done well, could have made this a great game. Expand

You have tons of amazing premises for levels, set pieces and sequences that should make this game a slam dunk. But its biggest weakness is the lack of execution. The gameplay is often overly simple to a fault making these amazing looking levels a chore to play through. The game then, is at its best when it's rushing through set-pieces then because it's able to stave off boredom better Expand

Spongebob games are usually either extreme successes or miserable failures, with very few coming in between. Yet Creature from the Krusty KrabSpongebob games are usually either extreme successes or miserable failures, with very few coming in between. Yet Creature from the Krusty Krab breaks this pattern, a game that is too repetitive and inconsistent to be called good and too full of good ideas and gameplay design to be called bad. The gameplay is decent, everything feels the way it should and all three characters have responsive controls. The game is full of great ideas and levels, but they are executed poorly. One level features Patrick in a comic-book themed dream, which should lend itself to many creative possibilities. Instead, it's just your typical formula of mashing the square button to take down enemies, move to the next room, rinse and repeat. On top of that, the world looks dirty and depressing, with a darker tint that is not pleasant to look at, a sharp contrast to the vibrance of Battle for Bikini Bottom. In the end, Creature from the Krusty Krab is a wasted opportunity. The ideas and gameplay are both there, but it lacks originality or the entertainment value necessary to be a standout game. Being neither a perfect dream nor a nightmare, Creature from Krusty Krab settles for a space in the realm of mediocrity.

Story: Spongebob, Patrick and Plankton are peacefully sleeping in Bikini Bottom, while in their dreams they are getting themselves in crazyStory: Spongebob, Patrick and Plankton are peacefully sleeping in Bikini Bottom, while in their dreams they are getting themselves in crazy scenarios that eventually clash together...

    Pros:
    • I love how Blitz games took inspiration from one of the greater episodes from season 1, "Sleepy Time" and make a full game based on it's ideas.
    • Not really the main focus of this game for the most part, but it does a lot of weird things throughout the story that are random and interesting.

    Cons:
    • Around the end of the game, it does try and give an explanation on why the dreams are happening. It's really dumb and all the endings are really bad regardless.

Gameplay: You switch between three characters in this game, Spongebob, Patrick and Plankton with a total of nine linear-style levels in a dreamworld with a few mini-games in between these.

    Pros:
    • The gameplay is very creative and is always changing to different types of gameplay such as flying, rampaging, racing, and platforming.
    • Mini-games are fun.
    • The Sleepy Seed collectables unlocks the alternative endings if you collect them all which gives them more of a purpose to collect. Also the Snooze Z tokens that you can collect to spend at the shop to unlock concept art, music etc.
    • I like how each characters' levels are different in art style, environment and abilities.
    • Some parts of this game have some awesome references to old b-movies and other Spongebob games that I found quite neat.

    Cons:
•The levels really drag on for a long time, to the point where some overstay there welcome. I'm pretty sure this is done since this game can be beaten in only four hours, yes four hours. I think this game could of used shorter, but more levels.
    • If you need to backtrack for Snooze Z tokens or Sleepy Seeds, you will have to watch all annoying little in-game cutscenes again and also listen to the tutorials. Not a major complaint, but an annoyance.
    • The game is extremely easy. No challenge in the gameplay, even Revenge of The Flying Dutchman was harder.
    • Since the game is trying to implement so many different types of gameplay, Most of them come off as very average in the way they play. Things like platforming. the combat and the racing feel very basic. The only exception is the rampage gameplay whcih is actually a lot of fun, but it's the least common type of gameplay.

    Sound and Music:

    Pros:
    • If one part of Creature From The Krusty Krab game is excellent, it's the music. It is so good, original and diverse with it's different music styles. Along with Battle for Bikini Bottom and some tracks in The Movie Game, this Spongebob game has some of the greatest music in Spongebob games..
    • Not as many voice actors this time around, but the ones present do a solid enough job, a few slight personality changes, but it's in the dreamworld so it's understandable. The side voice actors are decent too with the dialogue being alright too.

    Performance and Graphics:

    Pros:
    • This game runs pretty well on the ps2 with no major slowdown.
    • Levels have there own visual theme to them and some honestly are awesome such as Movie Grain and a Cartoon shade.

    Cons:
    • This games graphics are pretty bad for 2006. The textures look very dated and some levels look hideous because of it, with also the cutscenes sometimes looking really blurry and the colours can look odd.

Verdict: Creature From The Krusty Krab is a unique game for me. It's very creative and there is no other other game quite like it, let alone Spongebob games. Unfortunately this game has so many problems and so many things that are average as hell about it. It's really hard to decide what I think about it. It's an average game at the end of the day, but not far off slightly above average. I do recommend people playing this one at least once to see what they think.
