  1. While story elements take a backseat to the action, they aren't missed as the mindless shooting speaks louder than words.

It's the lack of single-player fun that really keeps this title out of the 90+ range -- but if you're looking for a great splitscreen FPS to play with your pals, this is the one to get.

Combining slick graphics, fast-as-hell gameplay, and an incredibly deep set of features and options, TimeSplitters has what it takes to make the PS2 a premier platform for shoot-'em-up multiplayer action.
  4. Da Gameboyz
    89
The game is fast, fun, easy to control, and it's the first title to offer up to four players for the PS2 with a multitap device.

Running at an unbeatable 60 FPS and loaded to the gills with impressive weaponry and unwary enemies, Timesplitters is the perfect FPS to debut with the PS2.
  6. The biggest drawback I found with the game in general was not being able to adequately distinguish other players from the background.

One of the cleanest of the launch games, despite the fact the game takes on a cartoon-y, B-movie art style than the potential for realism that most other developers choose to trumpet.
  8. Just more of the same old formula in a candy shell. Take away the coatings and purportedly new features, and the game finds its way back to its roots - in the past.
  9. 100
An awesome new first-person shooter with the chops and options to tangle with the best.
  10. While it lacks the intricate single player mode of "Goldeneye," the multi-player content in TimeSplitters is arguably the best in console FPS history.

An unconventional - hence invigorating - impetuous, inciting, and utterly, utterly playable first-person multiplaying affair.
  12. Fans of the N64 duo of "GoldenEye" and "Perfect Dark" should definitely give this one a try.

The game is slicker than snot on a cold doorknob when you get a few friends together for some serious fragging.
  14. What can easily be considered the best multiplayer title for the machine, and one of the best first person shooters released for a console so far.

It is extremely awkward trying to control your basic movements with the left analog stick while at the same time controlling your look and aim movements with the right analog stick.
  16. If you're a friend-less hermit living in the mountains of Montana you may not get the full experience from this game, but if you've got people to play with, it's easy to overlook Timesplitters' flaws.

The combination of great multiplayer matches that are addictive as hell, and a strikingly superb Map Maker create one game that's an absolute must-have on PlayStation 2.
  18. "Goldeneye" fans looking for another adventure probably won't have too good of a time with this one since it needs more than one person to truly shine.
  19. Spank!

It's a competently put together shooter, but it doesn't really excel in any of the many pies it tries to place its fingers into.

If non-stop action and an unbeatable multiplayer mode is what you crave, Time Splitters has definitely got you covered.
  21. TotalGames.net

The multiplayer levels outnumber the main game stages massively and each one has been designed specifically with action in mind - and they deliver!
  22. It’s a good, solid shooter, but even with the 4-player deathmatch (which I’m not really a fan of), there’s not a lot of substance here.
  23. 90
The graphics are slick and shiny, the soundtrack is diverse and compliments the eras you fight through and the action is fast, frantic and undying.

Timesplitters has perhaps the WORST single player i have ever seen in a game. its the exact same mundane task for each and every level. Timesplitters has perhaps the WORST single player i have ever seen in a game. its the exact same mundane task for each and every level. however, this one really shines with its multiplayer. with more customization than Halo, and a faster pace than a NASCAR race, this is one game that can easily entertain 2 or more people for several hours. However, as good as the shooting is, it's not attached to anything else worth while.

Even though I found the overall experience quiet shallow, I was surprised to hear that this was a launch title for the PS2. This would have been a great way to show off the systems performance through graphics, sound and game-play. Unfortunately, even though the visuals and game-play run very nicely, they don't have much depth. Each level layout is fairly basic. The game-play consists of running from point A to B and back while shooting everything in between. And there is no real story to tie everything together. In the end, this was just a very expensive demo to show off what the hardware could do.

Even though there isn't much to this one, it is good to see the foundation of what future games in the series would become. There isn't much here other than a nostalgia trip and can be easily avoided to make way for better FPS. In saying all that, the multiplayer support is next to none and should be considered if that's what you are looking for.
