Beats its predecessor with souped-up visuals, new characters and moves, improved tutorials, hundreds of unlockable items, and the amazingly deep Quest mode. And this is a Greatest Hits title? Insane bargain alert!

A brilliant fighting game, perhaps second only to "Soul Calibur II." [Sept 2003, p.53]

An incredibly deep and long-lasting single player mode, and the versus mode never gets stale; there's the included 10th Anniversary mode that's almost a separate game in itself; the graphics have been improved upon and almost perfected, and so has the gameplay.
  5. The main problem with Virtua Fighter has always been its relative inaccessibility, and VF 4: Evolution clearly represents an effort to introduce new gamers to the franchise.

Don't even think of renting if for this price. With such a simple-to-use, yet complex control system, you can be fighting in no time and continue refining your skills for months to come.

Apart from minor graphical tweaks and two fresh characters, VF4E remains much the same game. [May 2003, p.102]

Simply Oitstanding. Never has playing a fighting game made you so much better in playing the genre occured. Tons of depth and replay value Simply Oitstanding. Never has playing a fighting game made you so much better in playing the genre occured. Tons of depth and replay value wiht countless amounts of strategies and tactics to be discovered. There may be only 15 characters but unlike some other games they are all totally different (not by apperarances) but in the fact that they all have their strong points and weakness. Graphics have also been improved, animation is as smooth as ever. Music is a bit of alet with unrealistic crunches and pretty ribbish background music but since when was that a problem with fighting games? Neither does it have a proper story line which is a reason why only hardcore gamers go for it. But as pure gameplay is concerned it doesnt get any better. I dont know much about soul caliber so I cant comment but I can say that I prefer real martial arts (with a certain amount of exageration) to swords and ohter weopons involved. The only true to life martial arts fighting game with unbeatable nonstop exciting action. Buy it now! Expand

I don't know why we, Americans, hate VF. Stupid Tekken took all the credit for nothing. Don't get me wrong but Tekken is a great I don't know why we, Americans, hate VF. Stupid Tekken took all the credit for nothing. Don't get me wrong but Tekken is a great game too. VF is the origin of the virtual 3D combat. VF4 fighting system is amazingly deep if you play for awhile. VF4 Evo? What can you ask for more? New mode, new characters, and best graphics on PS2... SC2 on the other hand will give a different experience, which cannot be compared with VF4. VF4 has no weapons!!! VF4 was the greatest fighting game on console for me since DOA2 & SC on Dreamcast... VF4 Evo? even better... Let's Hope SC2 is as good as this one... Expand

THE best Virtua Fighter out of all the series. The game that stopped SEGA from going bankrupt. I remember owning the PSM2 DVD with this andTHE best Virtua Fighter out of all the series. The game that stopped SEGA from going bankrupt. I remember owning the PSM2 DVD with this and Soulcalibur 2 as import reviews and they did not disappoint.

The graphics were a big improvement over the normal version of Virtua Fighter 4. They looked nicer, smoother and very realistic. The animation looked superb. The soundtrack was really good. The sound was improved and the gameplay was more refined and I think it has the best gameplay out of all the series.

It brought 2 new characters into the series: Brad Burns and Goh Hinogami. I did like their fighting styles. A lot of things were added to keep the game innovative such as: fighting records and opponent logs in quest mode, new special game modes, item and money battles, item stores and currency system in quest mode, new ring, better ranking system and emblem battles. You could buy the original Virtua Fighter stage and the original character models which was a nice touch as well.

It has THE best training mode out of all the series. This was the first game out of the series to have the command list, ai position and difficulty setting, spawn and reset position and among other things.

    Definitely get this.

The Virtua Fighter series is a lot like today's sports franchises. With each version they don't really overhaul anything, they The Virtua Fighter series is a lot like today's sports franchises. With each version they don't really overhaul anything, they improve upon things. So really evolution is a fitting title. There have been so many Virtua Fighters (not just the 4-5 like the sequel # indicates), that now it's bordering on perfection. The graphics are among the best on the ps2. The depth is incredible. It's the only fighting game I know of that's just as fun 1 player as it is in multiplayer. Expand

This game is basically VF4 which wasn't that great of a game to begin with I guess I'll just have to wait for SC2.
