Arkham City should be celebrated as a shining achievement for the action-adventure genre for its masterful execution. [Holiday 2011, p.70]

There's a real sense of progression to Arkham City in its gameplay, in its story, in the variety of its missions (the abundance of open world side-quests will keep you busy for a long, long time), and in the evolution of its pointy-eared protagonist, that really deserves to be commended.

If there is one game you buy this year, make it Batman: Arkham City. Few other games released this year will reach this level of polish, variety, story quality, action, scale, and length.

Rocksteady already proved that they're an amazing studio with Arkham Asylum, but with Arkham City they now belong to the Olympus of the Action/Adventure genre. This game is the ultimate superhero experience.

All in all, outside of a few minor issues, I couldn't ask for a better Batman experience. If Arkham City was a graphic novel, it would be considered a classic.

We're sure you've already seen plenty of quotes and sound bites that announce Arkham City as the best superhero game ever made but such statements sell the game short: Batman's latest digital outing is probably one of the best games this year, if not the entire generation.

Even if there is still some reason to quibble here and there, Arkham City is undoubtedly the result of which we dreamed, rich and surprising in many ways. A feat which makes it a must-see title of 2011.

This is by far one of the best looking and action packed games I have played in a very long time. This game has it all and it really lives up to all of the hype that has been surrounding it. The detail is all here in each and every aspect and there is so much content I'm going to be at this one for a very long time. Due your self a HUGE favor and pick up this blockbuster right away and you can thank me later. Expand

It improves on nearly all levels, has memorable boss fights, one of the best Batman stories and probably the best conclusion in videogame history. It is dark, matured and entertaining. 18 months have passed since the prequel. Quincy Sharp is now mayor of Gotham and has converted parts of Gotham City in a prison enclosure called Arkham City. Bruce Wayne is holding a press conference condemning these action as he is arrested live on TV and thrown into Arkham City while Hugo Strange tells him he knows his two identities. This will become one of the hardest and impactful nights Batman will ever experience. I will praise the story and characters. The characters are well interwoven into the story. With each twist it gets better and better. It is a great experience and was never boring. After the final conclusion you will be left as speechless as Batman (the positive way) by this bold, matured and awesome events. There are of cause some side activities and The Riddler has again a lot of trophies for you. Prepare to face a lot of Batmans great rouges and normal criminals. While I am at it: It has many great boss battles but one is better than nearly anything else in videogame history. “Small spoiler” A fight were you have consistently evolve and change your tactics as your opponent is smart and wont let you exploit a weakness twice. “End of spoiler”. The gameplay itself was improved as no mayor changes were needed. You have multiple enemies that could only be taken down in certain ways. The free flow combat works well and you feel the impact of your hits. Batman would not be himself if he had not his gadgets. Again you have powerful tools at your disposal and more options than in the prequel. As before stealth is king and it is also again so satisfying to defeat a room full of enemies one by one without them seeing you. The statement that you become Batman in these games is well deserved. The detective mode is also back by making use of your scanning equipment to solve cases and reconstruct events. It is even pretty useful outside of this. Overall this is the best Batman experience in videogames with one of the best stories and a conclusion that you will never forget. It is basically Arkham Asylum that improves on all levels. Expand

They are able take one of the worst video game genres- comic book games, and turn it into one of the finest video games ever made. Batman: Arkham Asylum was an incredible game. I don't even read comic books and I still loved every thing about it. It made me feel like Batman and I always felt like a badass, sneaking up to thugs and taking them down silently, dropping down onto them from a gargoyle and taking out dozens of enemies with ease. And now Batman Arkham City is out. It impresses with a fantastic story, incredible gameplay, great visuals, a great soundtrack, incredible voice acting and inventive Riddler challenges. Batman: Arkham City is a complete package. It can be challenging, fun, addictive, but never boring. I highly recommend getting this incredible game. It is certainly up there with Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Rage, Portal 2 and LittleBig Planet 2 as one of the best games that I have had the pleasure of playing this year. It isn't perfect, but it sure is close. Expand

There is an immense lack of button mashing so my controller is safe once again, and the boss battles are all different. They are quite easy but I like that, playing as Batman I would want fighting a supervillain to be easy. The story in this one is just as good as the last, even if they try to put as many characters in as possible, with an ending which almost made me cry, and something in the credits sequence finished the job, trust me I was broken by the end of this game it has such a powerful ending. The open world system is great, and they were clever to not mess Arkham City up too badly and add respawning thugs so after you had completed the main story you could pretend you were in Gotham just fighting crime. The voice actors all do a fantastic job, especially Conroy as Batman and Hamill as the Joker. Just a purely brilliant game, made by a company who actually listen to the customers, and what they didn't like about the original Arkham. Expand
