    The story, the setting, the characters and the gameplay are fantastic i actually couldnt stop playing it. Its like a book you cant put down until you know what happens next

    finishing Dragon age: Origins made me feel like I'v played a true RPG. I don't usually play RPGs, so when I decided to play this game I wasn't exactly feeling like a "veteran" of the genre. The game has a predictable "Lord of the rings" tale that has that "good VS evil" feel to it. The real meat of the game lies in it's dialog/story and combat system which are all fun and interesting. thefinishing Dragon age: Origins made me feel like I'v played a true RPG. I don't usually play RPGs, so when I decided to play this game I wasn't exactly feeling like a "veteran" of the genre. The game has a predictable "Lord of the rings" tale that has that "good VS evil" feel to it. The real meat of the game lies in it's dialog/story and combat system which are all fun and interesting. the characters and the dialog options you have in a conversation are all brilliant, and probably the high point of the game.The combat itself on the consoles is decent, but seems like it doesn't fit console controlls to say the least, but it get's better when you know the characters well,especially after having so many conversations with them, and knowing their desires and conflicts.The RPG elements are all here, and while there is nothing groundbreaking, I still feel like the game is fresh, seeing how many cheap action games are coming out nowadays.The game is 2 years old but still kicks most RPGs that i'v played this generation in their butts. The console versions are genuinely worst compared with the pc version, so if you are playing the game on a pc add another point to the score. The game let's you role play and make decisions as you go. The game almost never forces you on one way to do things, and your opinion allways counts. This defines DAO for me, and is really what makes it stand out as a true RPG experience, at least in this generation.… Expand

    One of the greatest Western RPG's to date, wonderful scenery, fun combat, hilarious dialogue at times..
    I found my self enjoying this game so much i played through it in every class, although some quests are rather mundane and boring, it's easily over looked because this game shines so bright among the other RPG's of 2009-2010..
    And now that the GOTY edition is only $20 (AUS), everyone    One of the greatest Western RPG's to date, wonderful scenery, fun combat, hilarious dialogue at times..

    great game great designs for once i felt like 100 hrs of gameplay was 2 much...rpg ers this is for u! however it is a pc rip so the graphics will make u scratch ur eyes out.

    i was sceptical at first because i knew little about this game. i loved the specialized starts and the combat in rpg style. once i killed my first darkspawn i was addictive. i love this game but it freezes oftenly. it have alot of bugs but it's very fun none the less. buy if you like RPG's.

    This is my favourite RPG of this generation. Incredible and memorable characters (I adore the interactions between some of them, especially between Morrigan and the rest of the team) , an immersing and coherent fiction world, a very well constructed narration with a lot of options to choose, an interesting combat system, and a lot of other virtues.     Excellent blend of action/strategy/RPG gameplay. Story was lengthy and intriguing. Add that I only played one play-through with one class/race and this game has excellent replay value. Graphics aren't the best but not bad enough to make you want to stop playing.

    In my own opinion this is the number one RPG to date. I personally love the console version controls as opposed to the PC controls. Bioware has always delivered strong games, but the story as well as the vastness of the universe are just amazing. The only complaint I have for Dragon Age: Origins is with the technical issues.     A unique and fun game that gives a great sense of involvement to both character and plot. A genuinely great game that I have found to be well thought out and full of classic RPG charm. It's difficult to stop playing and the only problem is that you can't play it in twenty minute or hour bursts as it's too addictive.

    Very Story driven. Very Lovable and in depth character in this game. Old school style rpg click and automatic attacks with hotkeys for skills, but compared to its pc cousin the console lacked a lot. The gameplay itself is not all to bad with limited skills that can be hotkey but still carries the same overall experience in the Dragon Age world. Great sandbox with a great story. 8.5/10* PC=9/10*

    This game is amazing. Freakin spectacular. The PS3 version is slightly better than the 360 version, but not by much. Don't listen to the guy below me, PS2 graphics are not in the card...It's not as good graphically, as say...Mass Effect..but sometimes on the characters of places you get the feeling that it's right there close to it.     This game is MASS EFFECT meets Dungeons and Dragons. If you are a hack and slash gamer, you won't like this game. If you read fantasy novels, enjoy story driven role-playing games, you will love this game. The story is compelling and the game play is scalable to the level of control you wish to take. There is alot of dialogue, but unlike some negative reviewers, I don't consider This game is MASS EFFECT meets Dungeons and Dragons. If you are a hack and slash gamer, you won't like this game. There is alot of dialogue, but unlike some negative reviewers, I don't consider that a problem. Like I said "story driven"...I don't know how you could do that without the dialogue. And some of the most hilarious moments come just listening to your party members chit-chat as you walk down the road. I recommend swapping out characters on a regular basis if for no other reason than to hear some of the hilarious lines they fire at one another! There are so many variables that rely on your starting background, you find yourself playing the opening sequence over and over, just so you won't miss any of the options. I would recommend that new players start the game using every possible combination both male and female, then once you have reached Flemeth's Hut with each; only then you can decide which character you want to play through the rest of the game with. The stories really are that good. My only complaint is the graphics could have been a little better IMO.… Expand

If you want to be blown away by graphics, this might not be the game for you. If you were waiting for a great RPG for the PS3, go get it now, it likely won't get much better. I played the PS3, my wife played the 360, we both took the day off of work, a "Bioware Holiday." BIOWARE The Bioware RPG is one of my favorite video game genres. KOTOR 1 is still my favorite story. I played through Mass Effect 7 times. If you like Bioware, you will like Dragon Age. KOTOR 2 GRAPHICS Bioware didn't make KOTOR 2. Until now. Dragon Age's graphics in general look like a last generation game, upconverted to HD. And why should they not? This game was 5 years in the making. Personally, if I could wave a magic wigglestick, I would magically wish the graphics into the year 2069, to play in my PS9 in my flying car. Unfortunately, I live in a condo that doesn't allow wigglesticking. So the choice is (A) Play the Bioware game. (B) Don't play the Bioware game. (C) Eat a cup cake. No one plays Bioware games for the graphics. You play for the CYOA storytelling. 6 COMPLETE CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE NOVELS Dragon Age is 10 Novels long. With 6 unique hero journeys. That can be twisted good or naughty. Warrior. Magic. Thief. Hybrid-Hybrid. Bioware is the only developer on the planet that makes this kind of beautiful uniqueness. This kind of awesomeness only comes around once every few years. Is this flavor of awesomeness perfect? No. Is amateur pornography perfect? No. Sometimes the pacing is off, or the dialogue excessive, but it gets the job done. The job is to experience a genuine human story--even if you're a lesbian elf. Dragon Age is fantastic video game storytelling. And better written than most fantasy novels. BLOOD SPLATTER OR POTPOURRI? I'm going to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt and believe that after battles my characters are splattered with blood and not potpourri. It's hard to tell visually, but I don't think they would censor themselves because this game is, like, totally Mature. GAY SEX - NO NUDITY My wife likes lesbian threesomes. In books. In movies. In video games. In our kids' crayon drawings. She had never played a Bioware game before, but she likes role playing, and I told her Dragon Age has lesbian threesomes. Now, like with most video games, the depiction of sex isn't much more sophisticated visually than taking two barbie dolls and slapping them together. And there's no nudity. Because Bioware understands the genuine human condition--that people make the special love with their cloths on-- even if you're a bi-sexual dwarf. So if you like realisticly-sized breasts well-covered with beige felt bikinis, then you, my friend, are in for a PG-13 flavored treat. CASUAL VS HARDCORE My wife played on easy, I played on normal. If you're an uber-genius, like me, who enjoys micromanagement, obscure RPG tactics, and general strategery... Then prepare to spend a lot of time, with the game paused, in clunky interface menus, because that's how real men play. That's how my grandpappy played his Bioware games, and his grandpappy before him, back when Bioware wasn't even Canadian, when they were still French, and the TVs had 11" screens and were powered by fire--usually dry hickory. So if you want that kind of authentic gaming experiece, you can have it. But if you just want to enjoy the story, crank that menu to easy, slump back in the couch, and unbuckle your pants for a good time. PS3 VS 360 Like with all games, it's a choice between graphics vs framerate. The PS3 has slightly better textures, color saturation, contrast level, resolution. The 360 is less pretty but smoother. The PS3 is the supermodel with arthritis. The 360 is a Ukrainian gymnast. You get to choose who you want to take to bed. But since all you're going to do in bed is talk... It's not such a big deal. Unless you put two 50" plasmas right next to each other, you're not going to see the difference. I'm going to keep the PS3 version (because I like the controller better) and give my 360 copy to my favorite charity FVGFBO that provides fantastic video games for blind orphans. BUY IT, PLAY IT, LOVE IT… Expand

    The game was slightly delayed in the UK in order to rectify the framerate issues. Graphically this was better than I was led to believe but not of the best. However the developers wore their Martin/Tolkein etc influence proudly on their sleeves and made no apology for what was a somewhat cliched plot.     Alot of people either hate this game or love it. I personally love this game. It took me awhile to get into it but once i did and started leveling my character and getting into the quests i found the whole game very immersive and addicting. Once i got going into the main quest i couldn't pull myself away from my xbox. I played it for about 3 days straight and once i finished my first Alot of people either hate this game or love it.     One of the best games I've ever played. True immersion in an epic storyline. Amazing writing and acting - why can't more games focus on narrative instead of just graphics

    For RPG I could care less about graphics, as long as the story is gripping and the game will last me a long time it is good in my book. This game has a great story, the combat is not as bad as I thought it was going to be, and to be honest it is pretty easy. I love the decision making and interaction you have with others and your party members, definitely a must have for true RPG fans..     Greatest console RPG yet! It's simply a master piece from Bioware. People might complain about the graphics but this game is so much more than that. Causality, every action will have a consequence. So much depth. !

In any case, yes, the PC version is superior, yes the game has a bugs. But none of them are big enough to really ignore such a marvelous game. The story, the setting, the characters and the gameplay are all great and beyond. If you're annoyed If you can ignore what Tyler said if you will, this is not a port from a 360.     best rpg since baldurs gate2. the story is epic and the battles well balanced. who cres about graphics that are no match for uncharted? There used to be a time when gameplay was important.

    The world is fully realized. The main characters are intriguing. The gameplay, while familiar, is excellently executed. This game will please those who have come to love the Bioware experience and maybe convert some newcomers along the way.

    I love it. A truly amazing game with a compelling story that grabs you the minute you start playing. The combat system is.....interesting for some and might be a turn off for others but you should play this game either way. it's worth it

    It may not be the prettiest game available, but that isn't what matters. As a game, it is a very enjoyable experience, with an interesting story and non-standard quests, that will take 100s of hours of my life... following behind Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

    Amazing game. So much gameplay. Great story and dialogue. Though my only complaint is my wife loves it so much I hardly get to play it! I hope they put out a ton of expansions for this one! Best RPG ever!!

    Epic RPG, the story could have been shorter and this could have had more impact on player. Overall an expereince was really good, if you can't stand Jap RPG but like the gameplay to be similar. You will love this.

The dialogue in the game is not there just to progress through cutscenes, it is as much part of the game as fighting. 3) It is not hack n' slash. You control any character at any one time and you guide him Before you buy the game here is the checklist: 1) You like true RPG games (NOT action "RPG-like" hack n slash games). 2) You are interested in a good story and enjoy dialogue. You control any character at any one time and you guide him towards the enemy and press once to attack. You only press buttons to use special moves called talents. 4) If english is not your native lang make sure you know above average. 5) Don't neglect to read the codex pages as you find them. They explain the story so you always know what the NPCs are talking about. 6) You can control everything about your party's AI if you like and micromanage everything but you can also focus on your character alone without much thought of anything else. It's your choise. Just make sure you play on the NORMAL difficulty, otherwise it may seem too easy. If you are OK with these points then you are going to enjoy this game. It is a massive, epic single player game. The story although not original is very well written, the characters are very interesting, the battles are great. The only complaint I have about this game is that it is not open world (like oblivion). A very good game nonetheless.… Expand

    if i want to define this game in one word i would say - awesome.never played a game in which evey decision has its own repercussion. i m not giving this game10 merely bec. of 1 reason & ie graphics.i have played uc2 & ac2 recently & graphics are stupendous but dragon age is a true value for money. no second thoughts about it.

The story is very long but ultimately satisfying, the combat is both simple and hard (if you wish it to be) through micro-management, team mates work with you, rather than against, if you configure their tactics and the graphics are adequate. You will find yourself standing in awe in certain circumstances. This game requires immense hours to be put in (I finished at 36 hours and mainly focused on the storyline, with a few side quests) but if you are ready to go on an epic fantasy adventure, akin to the Lord of the Rings, get this game. Just be prepared for the long haul. Absolutely fantastic!… Expand

    I had a great time with this game. So much so that I will being playing through it several times to play as each unique class (though the rogue and warrior do share the same weapons primarily). The only issue I have is that the combat is a little difficult to control. I had to play on easy, because half way through the game on normal, I was getting slaughtered. The storyline is simply amazing, in that no matter which character you build, the dynamic of the game changes. you can pick your path, choose your words, even pick your friends even if they are just computers.     NPC approval rating was novel. Giving gifts helped bring out character in your NPC's, but by the end it felt a little too much like 'gaming' the NPC's feelings. There are frequent places where your decisions can truly affect the plot in a very meaningful way. Very nice. The plot does get a bit too 'political' and dry for my tastes, but is well written.

The choice of dialogue you get really makes you think and consider your responses when talking to your companions, the way you can choose which equipment you'd like for them and yourself, the tactics you need to employ to get the best out of your team when fighting the enemy and the sometimes crucial decision of who you'll be taking with you to certain locations. I also loved the option to romance some of your allies and the banter between them often made me laugh out loud. The only slight flaws with this game are that the graphics don't always look brilliant, it can be quite linear as opposed to open ended and sometimes the sneak option didn't work very well but everything else in this game just make these flaws tiny compared to how much else it does so brilliantly. Never have I spent so many hours playing a game with such a big grin on my face through sheer enjoyment as I did with this one.     First game that made me discover EA/Bioware games and they REALLY did a great job on that one... The story line is what you want it to be and teh pcs are just lovable! Great game if you like RPG. You might also want the suite Dragon Age Awakening (a bit less well constructed then the first one but still a great piece of game)

    I Loved this game.Even now after 4 years of its release.Certaintly the graphics are not the best but its compelling story and the way that your companions react depending on your actions is simply great.It has surely some minor technical issues that Bioware didn t manage well but they cant affect the overall experience.You cannot consider yourself as an rpg player if you haven t tried this game!

    one of the best RPG's i've ever played...that being said its a game only ment for rpg fans. i would not recommend this to anyone who is looking for a hack and slash kind of experience. skyrim may be better suited for that type of game play.( and i don't mean that in a negative way towards skyrim, just two different types of gameplay)

    A game that is definitely worth playing. The settings for your party AI is a bit clunky, and there are issues with lag on occasion. Several times I had to reload after a cutscene and the dialogs were extremely tedious after having just gone through them, but overall they were well done and not annoying unless I had to reload.

I loved every minute of this game and wish i could see more. Unfortunately the series changed with the next game and it changed far too much.     One of the best RPGs out there if not the best. Not a fan of the fighting style but there are lots of things to do besides fighting. Crafting, creating bonds between characters and tons of different dialogues to choose. Simply beautiful.

    First off, this game isn't for dummies. If you came here expecting to find easy & casual play, requiring no thought process whatsoever, your gonna die a lot! Not only is this an RPG game, it's also about Tactics, and Survival. Survival because you can permanently screw yourself by leveling up the wrong way, saving your game in a bad location, choosing dialogue options that can get your party members killed, or running out of healing items to deal with tough bosses. This game will show no mercy if you take it easy at any time.

    1. Story
    The darkspawn are upon us! It is up to the Gray Wardens to slay thy enemy so that Ferelden may rest peacefully once again. How your story begins varies on the race you pick, and the class you chose to play as. How the story unfolds lies solely in the dialogue options you input. From righteous hero to a$$hole renegade, one thing is clear -- The archdemon must be exterminated. Now prepare yourself to journey a world of fantasy where chaos rules, and hope for survival continues to diminish every day.

    2. Voice Acting
    Your party members are the only ones believable, which is a good thing considering you'll be with them the entire game. The rest of the side character show lack of enthusiasm overall, especially King Cailan.

    3. Graphics and Visuals
    The graphics and animations are beautiful to look at. It's so easy to fall under a trance of this fantasy-like world when you take a look around. Every now and then though, you'll notice the odd pallets that haven't loaded when cut-scenes start, but it will quickly fix itself.

    4. Gameplay
    Gameplay refers to combat, customization & level up, and various areas you can explore within the game. Put it all together and it's above average!

    -Battle System-
    The game will randomly spike up difficulties to in-human levels, and it will do this multiple times throughout your playthrough. Strategy tactics will be required for winning almost all battles, and guaranteed the final boss is going to destroy you if you're new to the franchise. Battles allow up to 4 characters in your party at a time, and you must be able to control all 4 of them at once while under stress. Because of the difficulty, combat never goes stale. Enemy continues to grow as you progress, so will always be one more challenging foe after another. Any one who clears the entire game without changing the difficulty to "casual" deserves phrase.

    -Customization-
    What is likeable about the customization is that there is a lot of moves to pick from regardless of whatever class you chosen to play as. Armor changes your character costume too as you equip them. And it is possible to build any kind of class you want. However, the dysfunctional inventory menu can leave players frustrated, and you wind up spending more time in this menu than you do in actual combat or exploration.

    -Exploration-
    You'll be exploring forests, mountains, underground caverns, ancient temples, and many more. The strong enemies will also give you plenty of time for exploration since you'll be taking your time through tactics. I am so grateful that the developers didn't put in blank empty rooms like every other RPG. It feels fun to explore a library after slaying abominations, or check out a tower once these darkspawn have been removed. Other companies should take notes.

    5. Soundtrack
    It's all mood music here. It will sound beautiful at first, but because of how hard the game is, you will wind up spending 3x longer in a dungeon than you thought you would, listening to the same track for that period of time. It gets repetitive quickly.

    6. DLC
    The DLC isn't worth the money, and you'll feel compelled to buy it any way when it flashes all over your main menu. Most DLC relates to the main storyline & doesn't feel like a spin-off, which in-turn further improves the experience. But even then it just feels like it was added to give players an item boost. For these reasons, I cannot give a recommendation as to whether or not you should buy any DLC.

    7. Bugs & Glitches
    - Casual gamers! There is hope after all! A bug exists in Origins that lets you duplicate items, allowing infinite money and health potions. Google "Exploits Origins" for more details.
    - There is a bug involving Alistair and the main storyline depending on what you do during the Landsmeet. It can't be stated in this spoiler-free review, but it hurts the game play experience.

    8. Personal Enjoyment
    The final battle is epic! It is a must-feel experience! The 60 hours you put into the game will be well worth it.

    9. Overall Verdict
    I am proud to state that this game deserves to be saved instead of destroyed. Only being held back by bugs and bad inventory organization, Dragon Age Origins gets a 9 out of 10! Frigin awesome! It is a must-buy!    … Expand

A great element is the different prologues for each race and class the player can choose; this really does make each one feel very different and add replay value.Combat works fairly well and is quite similar to the KOTOR games; the blood spatter is also a nice touch and makes long battles feel more epic.

    Bad - The graphics are pretty poor which doesn't take much away from the game but is a shame. The character creator is one of the worst in any game I have played with very few options. This also reflects on the npcs which seem to be pulled from about only a dozen models. The game isn't truly open world like Skyrim and for a game of its type can sometimes feel very linear. Not nearly enough armor sets with only about 3 or 4 different types and the rest just reskins.

    Verdict - Think KOTOR but with a fantasy setting. An excellent RPG that can be played for hundreds of hours with replays. If you love games like Skyrim, KOTOR, Mass Effect or just RPG's in general you will love this game. 8/10.    … Expand

They did a good job of porting this to consoles, but it's still a bit kludgy using a controller to move party members around and target enemies.     I loved this game! As a long standing RPG and BioWare fan this game was on my radar very early on. I'm pleased to say that it didn't disappoint me. The story, as you expect from BioWare was superb, and the choices I was offered in certain situations forced me to stop and think. Graphics were ok for PS3, and in general the UI and the way it worked with the controller was intuitive. II loved this game! Each race has a complex culture with a depth I haven't seen in many games. I actually cried during many parts of this game, obsessed on how to marry Alistair (LOL!) and enjoyed each area more than I can express. Even though this game is a few years old, if you haven't played it, it's worth the $20 as each origin story is unique and is worth playing through multiple times. I bought this game with the add-ons and expansion included, though I didn't install them on my first play-through and I'm glad I didn't, as you get to experience the game without the cheats (plus - once you play through once, the add-ons keep it fresh each subsequent time). I didn't like the expansion Awakenings at all - it seemed to lack the depth that the original had and I never finished it (but the expansion came with the game so I wasn't too choked about that). I wasn't a fan about some of the add-ons that didn't tie in with the original game, and I found that the holiday gifts tended to ruin the challenge of making your companions like you out of sheer effort, so whenever I play through the game I don't use them. I highly recommend DAO (but NOT DA2 - don't waste your time with that one). Dragon Age: Origins is an example of the fantastic, high quality work that Bioware put out before they were purchased by EA, and it's by far the best game I've played to date in terms of story, immersion, action, gameplay, humour and the emotional response this game evokes.… Expand

You will spend countless hours playing this game, and when you aren't, you'll wish you could. I cannot recommend this game enough, if you love RPGs, this is a MUST BUY.

    This game starts out with letting you customize your character and choosing your class.
    All of your choices here will determine the origins story you are given.
    There’s potentially 6 different stories to be told in this game…
    I played the console version of this game, so it’s much more action oriented than strategy based.
    You can journey with 4 allies at a time to help you fight enemies and you can gain new allies along your journey,
    How you treat your allies and the people in the world around you will determine if they turn their back on you or help you with your cause.
    Your allies do a fairly decent job at holding their own... they only got stuck one time in my entire playthrough.
    You can equip gear you find on them much like a JRPG, there is tons of micro managing your ally’s skills as well as yours,
    Dragon Age Origins is lengthy, but not lengthy because there is so much great content to experience...
    The game is long just for the sake of being long... it accomplishes nothing in dragging the story on forever and makes you do more than you should really have to…
    The entire game feels like one giant goose chase.
    After your origins story the map opens up and you can freely clear it in any order you choose,
    The incentive to doing so is there is a blight... demons… an army... you need allies, so you set out into the vast sections to gain those allies...
    Each section of the map could literally be their own game… and not necessarily in a good way.
    They all have their own self-contained stories that link to the overarching story, but every single one of them follow the formula of the main story, which is you think you’re done but you’re not
    you get to whoever you’re looking for but they need you to do this before they’ll help you but when you get there to do what they need there’s someone there that needs you to help them before they can help you help the person that you need to help before they’ll help you..
    Its overwhelming and ultimately makes the game feel like it drags on forever
    and quite frankly it does... you never feel like you are making any true progress…
    It took me 10 hours of playing before the game got even a little bit interesting to me.
    There are some really cool sections to this game, again they all feel like they could be their own game...
    It’s crazy to look back when you’re near the end and think of the journey you’ve been on and how it was indeed part of this game and not some game you played years ago even though it feels like it.
    There’s mages, demons, going through the fade and shape shifting, hunting werewolves down in the forest, going underground to search for a mighty anvil
    There is so much to experience.
    While Dragon Age’s game world is vast and deep, I found the gameplay and journey to be shallow and tedious.
    Due to the delivery of the story, and the constant webbing of story lines I found Dragon Age Origins to eventually feel more like a chore than a game,
    After about 30 hours in I was begging for the game to be over, to get to the point, but instead it drug me down another 20 hours of rabbit holes.
    If the rabbit holes don’t make the game feel tedious enough, it also does a horrible job at quest progression in general...
    You rarely know where you’re supposed to go,
    The marker for the quest you’re on only appears when you’re close to the desired location…
    and by close, I mean practically on top of it…
    Which will lead you right to google to figure out where this person lives since who’s going to really memorize the locations of these people by name?
    I’m not
    There’s a Lot to do in Dragon Age Origins, so I can definitely see why people love this game so much…
    Even I appreciate the game for what it has going on...
    There was just ultimately nothing here to hook me in...
    If I didn’t feel obligated to make it to the credits, I definitely wouldn’t have

    Only drawback see to this game is that if you only want the story and not the combat, then its hard to stick with it as these type of games require bit of time since combat takes awhile.     So this game is hard to play in 20-30min bits you generally need to take a weekend and sink into it and boy are you rewarded if you do.

    Cant actually think of a single game that does the same thing as this as good this is the absolute best at what it does, just be aware this is a time consuming game.
    If you dont have enough time there might be better games to play in short 20min bits

    Slightly better on the PC but i mean this is not a twitch game so controls being just a little bit clunkier isnt as important as say a action game or racing game this is turnbased.    … Expand

This soon boils down to mashing different buttons and selectively targeting an enemy with all your characters to accumulate damage points to overwhelm them. The level of satisfaction surrounding this begins to eventually wane as you progress.

    Dialogue with NPC's is another point of criticism. Your character is a consummate mute when speaking with NPC's, but in combat says "It will be done" which creates a jarring element to communication in the game.The story while lengthy and interesting, is made dull by it's characters whose emotional reactions are sometimes questionable or pathetic.

    Overall, Dragon Age: Origins is more of a character driven game that should mainly appeal to RPG fans who don't mind divulging in strategic button pressing than full-fledged action.    … Expand

    It's a great RPG! Great soundtrack, good story, good gameplay, great characters and the graphics that aren't that bad. I totally recommend this game. It's, indeed, one of the best RPGs of the millennium. 8/10

    Dusted off my ps3 to buy this on the playstation store for 10 quid.

    Great game. Graphics are dated and facial features look pretty bad at some points but other than that its such a great game and still holds up today in terms of story and mechanics.

    I love this game. I have played it 9 times now, and each time i discover something new (even if its only a new conversation line with party members). The graphics are great, and the world has a rich and detailed history. I also love the origin stories. It is nice to have more input into who your character was, before the 'Epic' events. I hope bioware makes another 'Origins' style game. II love this game.     I first played Dragon Age Inquisition and I think Origins is as good as Inquisition or even better. Although, obviously, the graphics are worse it's still a great game with many dialogues and good voices, gameplay and soundtrack. In my opinion, the worse of this game is that you have to wait a bit everytime you go inside or go out of some buildings and areas. It took me 50 hours to beatI first played Dragon Age Inquisition and I think Origins is as good as Inquisition or even better. Although, obviously, the graphics are worse it's still a great game with many dialogues and good voices, gameplay and soundtrack. In my opinion, the worse of this game is that you have to wait a bit everytime you go inside or go out of some buildings and areas. It took me 50 hours to beat exploring everything and doing as many sidequests I could although I left lots of them as well; so if you go straight to the main plot you can beat it in about 10 hours less.… Expand

    I know many people rate this game as excellent or must play game, bot for me its quite chaotic and in the end also boring.
    Campaign is too long, you can play its for 60 hours and this game will be still unfinished.
    The journal does not distinguish which quest is the main and which the side. So if you accept big amount of quest it will become very fast chaotic.     DA:Origins is lagging behind today's standards, but its 2009 game so we cant compare it to modern RPGs, however back in the day, this game had to be a big deal. It contains lot of lore, decent story, lot of races and factions. Enormous amount of achievements to unlock.

    One of my favorite RPGs. Your decisions were truly impactful and the story was very good, the characters were all compelling and the gameplay and world was overall very fun.

    While Dragon Age Origins even for a game released in 2009 looked average at best, it is undoubtedly one of the best RPG's ever made. Several branching paths, alongside several character classes and builds. And a great supporting cast of characters. Dragon Age Origins is n incredible journey.

    You have the ability to choose your own origin story, which not only makes the first few hours of the game unique, but different origins have different relationships to the overarching narrative and sub-plots, and furthermore, every decision you make truly feels like it has an impact - you can secure the best ending for a minor NPC, kill everyone in your path, and even have an orgy with your companions.

    Speaking of companions, Dragon Age: Origins has a great cast of characters, many of which are entirely optional for you to recruit, and many of which can also die by your own hand. The best thing about these companions is that they are their own characters, if you make a decision that goes against their beliefs, they will turn on you.

    Another thing Origins does well, which its successors fail to do, is to create an immersive world full of live. The game features many destinations from the underground kingdom of the Dwarves, to the forests the Elves reside in. The world is large but is not simply littered by empty space, it is filled with unique enemies, narratives, characters and lore to explore.

    One of the less praiseworthy elements of Origins is that it follows the cliche "chosen one" trope, yet still achieves to make it an enjoyable experience, even if you have seen it time and again. The darker aspects of Origin's narrative is what sets it apart from its successors, highlighting themes of sexism, racism, and classism that many modern games shy away from portraying, and as your own protagonist can be at the receiving end of these issues, it makes for a more personable experience that helps you gain empathy for the people who suffer from such injustices in reality.

    The reason I did not give Origins a 10, or even a 9 is for two reasons:

    1) The combat, while adored by many, is not the immersive experience in this game, especially so on a PlayStation 3 where you are more limited with what abilities you can quickly use. Overall the combat feels sluggish and lacks depth in some areas, though makes up for it with depth in other areas.

    2) The primary reason i cannot give the PlayStation 3 version of Origins a higher score is because the game is filled with a plethora of bugs - from crashing, graphical glitches and quest progression bugs, to conflict with DLC to the point where some characters do not appear where they should.

    Overall, I highly recommend anyone who can, to play Dragon Age: Origins at least once fully, but if you can, I highly suggest playing on a PC over a PS3.    … Expand

    This is definitely not the game for those frightened of the idea of micromanaging a game to the point where a large portion of it will be spent in a pause screen. However, as the sort of guy that has lovingly played an Infinity Engine game at least once every year for the past decade, I can think of no higher praise for this throwback than to say that Dragon Age: Origins leaves me feeling fairly confident I won't need to dig out the classics for this ritual next year.
