As Obi-Wan Kenobi once told me, "Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view." Good advice when thinking your way through Echochrome's frequently mind stumping, addictive I-think-my-IQ-just-went-up-10-points, levels.
A remarkably spare looking spatial puzzle game, Echochrome delivers challenging gameplay and innovation. As a truly unique experience, Echochrome is hard not to recommend. A dash of Lemmings with a whole lot of M.C. Escher, I think the latter would be proud.
Echochrome isn't just for smart people who adore the classical violin music that plays in the background, but it is for people who enjoy brainteasers and puzzle games.
Whoever is enthralled by its fantastic presentation will have a blast with the game. At the same time, its concept isn't simple and might be too much for some. Make sure to at least try the demo.
Games like Echochrome only come around in a great while, completely devoid of anything controversial, yet full of gameplay and challenge that other games wish they had.
It might seem like this review is a long list of complaints, and it is, especially regarding the time limit. But they're an assortment of small annoyances in what's otherwise a splendid puzzle game with a minimalist approach. And the ability to create and share your own mind-bending scenes encourages some homegrown M.C. Escherism.
