Default difficulty provides mindless fun, tougher difficulty the hardcore challenge. [Issue#210, p.98]

The Baconing is a competent, fun, and mostly diverse title with plenty of kooky humor. It's a decent option for those who never played DeathSpank, and if you did play the first game, you'll probably like the similarities found in the sequel.

You can invest your money in The Baconing if you're a person, who has enjoyed previous installments of the series. But I can easily recommend it to people who are new to Deathspank. The only condition - you have to be ok with monotonous bashing of hundreds of enemies and crave some absurd humor.

The Baconing is undoubtedly a solid, entertaining addition to the series, but over-saturation has made this once brash and energetic adventure feel slightly predictable.

The Baconing is a good game, but a lack of innovation or worthwhile improvements stop it from being a much better one.

If you're into a bit of hardcore Spanking, you'll love this. [Oct 2011, p.104]

The Baconing exposes DeathSpank's diminishing returns. It remains a solid, well built game, but Hothead Games doesn't seem to notice (or care) that they've essentially made the same game three times.

You should ask yourself if you are satisfied with more of the same. Were the two adventures of DeathSpank enough for you? The small changes can't cover up the signs of weariness that's creeping in this series.

The Baconing sags limply in a puddle of its own stale grease when it should sizzle: reheated leftovers from the previous two games, liberally seasoned with humour to mask the aging ingredients, in danger of becoming inedible.

A lack of invention when compared to the previous game and an overdose of chaos make for a disappointing entry in the series. Deathspank: The Baconing is fun for a while, but you won't remember it for long.

A repetitive approach kills lasting fun. [Nov 2011, p.107]

Deathspank: The Baconing is a fun game with first class humour that gets dragged down by repetitive combat. Brilliant in small doses, though.

The Baconing, while funny and entertaining, is not the strongest game of the trilogy. However the loot and combat combined with the price can make this a worthy purchase for many action-RPG fans.

A fiercely likeable time-waster. But with console download services delivering increasingly brilliant games these days, DeathSpank has yet to make the transition from an entertaining diversion to something that's truly essential.

If all you want to do is play more DeathSpank, then this will certainly do the trick. For me, once was apparently enough.

It doesn't live up to previous DeathSpank games.

Whilst the controls ruin the combat in The Baconing, this isn't actually all there is to the game.

If you've played the previous two Death Spank titles and enjoyed them beyond all measure, I'm sure you will delighted with The Baconing. For the rest of you, you're better off spending your time and money elsewhere.

Its gameplay gets repetitive soon, and doesn't improve upon the original game, and the story is not as good, but it can still be enjoyable by fans of the original.
