Skyrim brings 'all flash no substance' to an entirely new level. Somehow people are impressed by having giant sub-par looking landscapes and tons of NPC's even if it substitutes an actually decent combat system, or basically any gameplay mechanic that's even remotely challenging or polished.

If a game based around conflict doesn't have a good combat system, it has nothing. Plain and simple. Bethesda opted for a big world instead of a well designed one, and that's what they got. I'd rather play several better smaller games then waste my time playing one bad big one.

This game is broken. Glitches, like being hit and flying through the air and into some weird black boxy computer-land is, I presume, not part of the elder-scrolls story. Others, like NPCs having what look to be epileptic fits while they talk to a wall (instead of you), are completely ridiculous and show a lack of polish. It is sad to think that game-makers like Bethusda spend so much money on advertising when they could have instead channelled the funds into having programmers put together a game which doesn't look half-finished. If you have to buy this, then get it on PC where hopefully it will be fixed up with mods and/or patches. In the meantime, avoid.â Expand

There is a good game in here somewhere, it's a shame there are too many bugs to see it. Dont wait for patches either, Bethesda/Obsidian/Zenimax have never patched a PS3 game to the point it was as playable as the 360 or PC version.

Huge dissapointment, wont be buying from Bethesda/Obsidian/Zenimax again.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK!. Got the collector edition for $200 and after 30 hours of playing I stopped because it is now unplayable!. Frame rate issues, long loading screens and controller buttons no responding properly. Loved the game but now I hate it! Is anyone else having the same issues?

The good - world looks awesome, up to a point ( the bad below); defeating your 1st dragon feels awesome; character customisation allows you to create the character you want; soooo much you can choose to do.
The bad - combat is as bad as morrowind & oblivion, with no lock on it's too hit & miss; creatures in the world do not stand out enough & you often can't see anyone/even when the hud is saying you've been detected; after playing for a while the darker textures started to strobe like lightning! in towns, often 2 or 3 characters will be speaking to you at once, often repeating same dialogue ova & ova (particularly annoying wen trying to follow 1 quest conversation in the middle of it all); often the quests you are given just get you killed, & with no indication as to what's appropriate for your character's level it can get very frustrating.
My biggest beef however is, once again, I can't play the character I want. I want to be a hunter, sneaking up on animals & taking them down with a single bowshot. This can work if you see the creature 1st. However, in caves & dungeons or where there's multiple enemies such a opcharacter gets swarmed & killed too easily. Ditto, sneaking around hunting. Too often I ran into a bear or saber tooth tiger & was killed in seconds.
Too many of the problems that plagued Oblivion remain. I hope they get it right next time.

Definitely the disappointment of the year, Skyrim is essentially Fallout 3 with dragons and swords. What's worse, the graphics have not improved from Fallout 3's slow-loading textures and chintzy facial-animations. Truly, I was shocked given how much buzz had been generated about this game... shocked, followed by a feeling of being ripped-off as I'd spent full-price on this dud. Granted, I've only played the first several hours... so it could be that the plot gets amazing in the later levels; but I don't think I'm going to be able to put up with much more of the glitches, cheesy script and sad character animations. For example, the grizzly bear in the beginning of the game? Well, it doesn't so much "walk" as it does "float in a weird circle" without moving its legs entirely. Me and my mates were sitting with out jaws dropped... this is the last time I trust Bethesda on their word. Then again, all the reviews seemed to be so glowing and favorable.... I must admit it makes me wonder how much advertising has had to do with influencing these undeserved scores. Here's the thing, if I were a little kid who only was able to get like 3 games a year from mom and dad, yeah, I think I'd probably dig this game a lot more (and be super-defensive about it sucking, thereby giving it a 10 on Metacritic), because it's huge and in that sense, worth one's money. But I'm an adult. I buy pretty much every new game I want, which is at least a few a month. I bought Rage. I bought Dark Souls. Having had those recent experiences (not to mention Uncharted 3 and Arkham City), Skyrim just feels super-antiquated and, well... sad. It's just a sad, sad title. You know what hurt the most? My roommate who doesn't even play video games was able to casually walk past me whilst playing Skyrim and immediately assessed it's mediocrity. "What's that... that's not your new game is it?" he said. Yes, yeah... that's Skyrim. "Eew, really? It looks like Fallout." I **** you not... even the uninitiated can smell the fecal pile that is Skyrim's tiredness. I'm just glad I can at least trade in Skyrim for the bulk of my money in time for Saints Row III. So much for a weekend learning Dragon Shouts. :-( Here's a shout for you "SKYRIM SUCKS!"â Expand

What is the current build of Skyrim is still fun, and still an Oblivion/Fallout crossover that finally works. However, for all the fun it has, the main quest storyline is short, and combat is starting to get to the point where it seems to be jarring. When it came out, Skyrim sounded like an awesome game, but after time, and after exposing a lot of the repetitiveness, the glitches, and some serious combat balance issues, things aren't looking as awesome as it used to for Skyrim. For example, say I trained my Cooking, Alchemy, and Sneak skills up, that raises my overall level, and in turn, raises the levels of my enemies. That means, I may never be able to beat a number of enemies in the future without an extreme amount of luck or effort. Not good. Overall, Skyrim is a GOOD GAME. It just isn't the best game in the world. The PS3 version of this game (which I may add, this review applies to ONLY), is broken out of the box without patches. If you have no method of patching this game, realize that Skyrim is a broken game after about 6MB in your save file. Skyrim is worth your attention irregardless, however, for all the pomp that video game reviewers gave it, I want to say that some of it is quite bloated. Expand

The difficulty fluctuates wildly, so much so that I almost prefer Oblivion's leveling system. The framerate is all over the place. The load times are at least 3 times longer than Oblivion's. The game crashed 50ish times over the course of 100 hours. The graphics are pretty from a distance, but get ugly fast as you get close. Most disappointing is the physics and the game engine. It is essentially the same as Oblivion, which was dated even in 2006. Also, the melee combat is crap. Hitting someone in the foot does the same damage as hitting them in the head. The special moves are the same ones as in Oblivion. Pros:
Magic is more fun to use, shouts are a blast(pun intended). Smithing weapons is incredibly addictive and fun.

The main quest line was much better executed than the past games and also worked to tie in the secondary quest lines as well but this also led to things being somewhat more restrictive. But onto the game play if you look at the history of the series things have been getting dumbed down or condensed if you want a nice way to say it. Skyrim is no exception and in some cases accelerated the process from oblivion. not least of all was how stupidly east they made it to level up if you know how to exploit you can nearly level a skill up to a hundred(the max) just by casting a spell on yourself while you are traveling to and through your first main story quest. Exploiting the smithing skill is even faster if you have the money to do it and contrary to the past games where doing this is likely to leave you weak in other skill areas, in skyrim there is little to no disadvantage there. There are plenty of new features that were a welcome addition but not enough to make up for all the others that were dumbed down. The attention to detail also suffered greatly but looking at the time scale that the game was developed in I can't put too much blame on them for failing to uphold their original standard. The bottom line is that I expected much better from Bethesda but compared to the rest of the market it is still leaps and bounds ahead, these reviews on the other hand on average are ignorant and at best full of knee jerk reactions. I urge anyone reading these to take them with a grain of salt as few other games out there offer a better technical experience anymore and none offer the same level of gameplay, Expand

There are some annoying bugs, such as the framerate dropping when it's auto-saving after you fast travel, but I tend to overlook that just because of how good the rest of the game is. If you're afraid of playing a game that has glitches, you might want to avoid this game until Bethesda patches it. If you're not really concerned with glitches and love open-world RPGs, you owe it to yourself to pick up this game. Enough said. Expand

I only recently purchased Skyrim and therefore received patch 2.x when installing the game on my PS3. Luckily, I have been free of bugs so far (AFAIK) and also the lag is very acceptable, especially from a game that offers so much gameplay. I have been playing this for about 100 hours now and my social life has ceased to exist. The game is captivating, adventurous, incredibly addictive and filled with so many small details that you just have to admire the programmers and creative artists that worked on this. Just to give you one example without spoiling any major event: At a certain moment i felt myself in unfamiliar surrounds in the middle of the night, starving from hunger. Suddenly I saw a rabbit drinking at a well. I took out my bow (in stealth mode so as not to scare the animal away), ligned up my shot....only to see a giant wolf leap out of the bushes and eating my rabbit!.
A wonderful game, if you are reluctant to buy it because of the bugs, be assured that the new patches have wrinkled out a lot.

This is FALSE the game still has big issues. as for bugs and glitches i think i only ran into one, but i think it might've just been my fault because i tried to get to a location i wasn't supposed to be yet and, as a result i broke a quest. The real issue here is the lag and if you want to avoid it i strongly suggest you get the PS4, XONE, 360, or PC versions play one of those and this game is a 10/10. DO NOT GET THE PS3 VERSION!!!.

Now on to the game. Amazing game! What i love about this game is the amount of freedom to do what you want. if you want to completely forget about the main story and go off adventuring you can do that, if you want to live life as a criminal you can do that. you want to become a powerful mage that can hurl fireballs at your enemies? or be a stealthy thief character? you can do that. there are so many possibilities and playstyles to choose from. there is a lot to see and do in Skyrim and at 200 hours i feel like i'm a long way from 100% completion. for most rpg's i've played once i've hit the 200 hour mark i probably seen just about everything in the game. this is not the case with skyrim, i'm past 200 hours and still have many quests i haven't completed and places i haven't explored. it's amazing how much stuff there is to do in this game. It is one my favorite games of all time and if you like RPG's i highly recommend it. you will LOVE this game.

But for me Bethesda has failed in what could have been one of the great games of our time. I have put a lot of hours into Skyrim and best way to describe this game is “It’s a big as an ocean but contains less fish then a pond”. Such a massive environment but every dungeon is the same, every puzzle is too simple and pointless, every enemy is the same just looks a bit different, every NPC sounds the same 80% percent of NPCs have an American accent, no offence but British accents would have made much more sense. Food is pointless, alchemy is pathetic unless it’s maxed and even then it’s a kind of pointless cause by the time you’re that high a level you’ll be picking up Ultimate Health and Regeneration Potions, I guess in saying that blacksmithing is pointless too, there’s no need to make ebony or glass weapons and amours cause you’re just bound to pick it up from a chest. Skyrim’s a country set in another world yet contains Mammoths, wolfs, sabre-tooths, bears, foxes, spiders, rabbits, deer’s, fish and crabs which all can be found on Earth (Mammoths, sabre-tooths are extinct), beside the trolls there’s no unreal animal which I find really stupid. The only spells that are useful are destruction or restoration ones, I guess conjuration can be useful at times but Illusion and Alteration just piss me of. Why would I use a spell the makes enemies flee only to comeback 15 seconds later to attack me, I guess I could chase them but in doing so I’ll just run into more enemies then I’ll be out numbered. Or I could make an enemy “Calm” but as soon as I decide you kill him he’ll attack me right back. Alteration spells like candle or mage light does nothing as the game is always well lit. Even shouts are pointless, use a powerful shout and wait two minutes before you can use another one, in the meantime just run around and hope you don’t get killed. Gold is as well, the only things I did with my gold was to buy a house and to pay of my bounties. I never spent a cent on that I knew I’ll just find later. But the biggest fault about this game is the entire story. Don’t get me started on that. Expand

The only other justifying reason for saying this game is bad is that the combat is somewhat mellow. It really depends on your taste, and besides, it can get really frantic at times. The bugs aren't unforgiving, but they are somewhat understandable. Games this size normally have their fair share and Skyrim is no exception. Frankly, the shear content is enough to sell this game. Firstly, the map is HUMONGOUS. Not only that, but it's also fun to explore and there is plenty of quests to urge you TO explore it. There's normally something close to where you are, be it a temple or a village, each with something interesting in them. That's the thing with Skyrim, you never know what you're going to get. A house could have in it a chest filled with loot or a group of skeletons.

There's a real sense of adventure in every quest and in just exploring the map. That's the beauty of Skyrim, and any Elder Scrolls for that matter: a quest might want you to kill a certain bandit or monster... but you could just as easily walk 50 miles in the opposite direction, place a basket on a dog's head and then kill it. It's very rare for a game to evoke such a sense of freedom. Many a quest will offer some way of going off the path. You could help an NPC through a dungeon, only to be told he is carrying a priceless artefact and you are given the option to kill him. There's just so much to do: craft a weapon, buy a house, get married, go on a quest, become thane of a province, the list goes on. It's one of those games that will take completionists hundreds of hours to do everything there is to do. If anything, it's well worth the money.

However urgent the main story quest at the point seems, you can always forget about it for a few days and spend your time doing other things. However, the storyline is amazing. The idea makes you feel epic: you are what is known as dragonborn, half man half dragon, and you are literally the only one that can stop the dragons from destroying all of Tamriel. It truly is the end of days... if you cannot do anything about it. This is exactly the right setup for a game of this setting. The world truly feels in danger; dragons attack villages and castles all the time. These battles are truly a visual spectacle, but you can eventually learn a dragon's movements fairly easily. That said, it never really gets old to see a dragon crash to the ground leaving a huge trench of dirt as they skid across the ground. The ending is great, but the final boss is a bit easy. I would recommend, if you are a high level, to bump up the difficulty.

Overall, there's no reason a fan of RPGs, or simply video games, would not enjoy this. I ended sinking so many hours into Skyrim and was happy to do so! I urge you to get this game. You owe it to yourself if you own a console or decent PC. And, don't you go stealing anybody's sweet roll, now!

It is the definitive adventure game of this generation, creating an unrivaled sense of immersion and a world that feels believable without the prescience of your character. Skyrim is a living breathing world with living breathing people, an accomplishment little to no games can boast. It provides limitless entertainment, giving me 200 hours of worth of content and I'm still not even close to finishing all the side missions and quests. But there is one fatal flaw to Bestheda's latest gem: bugs. Lots and lots of bugs. I usually disregard glitches in games. If it doesn't affect the overall experience, such as a texture glitch or the occasional entrapment in a wall or pillar, it doesn't really matter. However, Skyrim possesses many glitches that make quests unbeatable, as well as cause game-ruining glitches that make some of the major missions impossible to complete. With all that said, is the PS3 version of Skyrim a good game worth buying?
The story is your typical hero story. You are a hero named Dragonborn who the prophecies foretold to help defeat an evil dragon named Alduin and prevent the entire Nordic race from being wiped out by the return of the dragons. However, the greatest part of Skyrim is the fact that you don't have to follow any narrative or predetermined plot structure. This is YOUR story, and you can do whatever you want. There are seven major story lines in total, meaning that instead of fighting the dragons, you can completely ignore your destiny and join a Thieves Guild or a Dark Brotherhood of assassins. All of these main quests are memorable in their own way, introducing you to a plethora of new characters that all leave their mark on you throughout the adventure. Betrayals are common, allies die in seconds, and all of Skyrim is up to date on your escapades. You couldn't imagine when a trader in Riften congratulated me on my promotion to the group of do-good era known as the Companions in Whiterun, even though the two cities are miles and miles apart. It's amazing how real the game can feel, ranging from the perfect reactions to a murder (all of the guards coming quickly to the scene and even shooting first if you are a notorious criminal) to the anger a family feels when they intrude into their house after hours.
Along with all of these high notes, every aspect of the gameplay feels great and rewarding. You level up on how often you use a skill, rewarding you for your persistence and recognizing which skills you value over others instead of making a decision right at the start of the game. In any other RPG, I'd likely have to choose between a warrior or a Mage immediately, without having an opportunity to test out both skills effectively. Also, trading and crafting spice up the hiatus between dungeon exploration and world traveling. You can craft your own weapons, which become more advanced the more you level up your skills with blacksmithing, and add magical perks on top of them, which is also self-acquired throughout the adventure in dungeons. These dungeons are also enjoyable, each of the several hundred feeling fresh and rarely repetitive due to the quests linked with each one. In a sense, you build yourself up from nothing into the hero everyone expects you to be. But in another sense, you live a life. 100 hours into the game, I reflected back on my journey as I sat on a tower chair, staring up at a beautiful starry night. I defeated Alduin in an epic battle. I inherited the Dark Brotherhood and became part werewolf. I also found love, marrying my housecarl and settling down in a large house in Solitude. However, on one quest, she died suddenly and I buried her where she was slain, forced to push onwards. As I stared up at the stars, I realized how far I had come in my life as the Dragonborn, and how far still I had left to go. This stands as one of the most beautiful moments I've experienced in any video game.
Despite all of this overwhelming praise I have and an unbridled spirit of adventure to describe, I can't ignore the bugs that lower this game's likability and nearly ruin the experience altogether. First off, during one quest, in the city of Markath, I aided a group of bloodthirsty outcasts to escape a prison. The game glitched during this quest and now I can no longer enter this city without dozens of guards ganging up on me demanding me to go back to the prison from which I escaped. When I try to negotiate, the conversation loops forever until I have no other choice but refuse, leading to a fight with an overwhelming amount of guards. In short, all of the missions involving Markath were rendered unplayable, which really detracted from the game. Also, about 50 hours into the game, I noticed that the game began to lag. Due to Skyrim's awkward save system, the game becomes laggy and almost unplayable after saving 50 hours into the game. The game runs much slower after this point, replacing the smooth animations and gameplay with near immobility. One time I literally stared at a screen for 3 minutes mid-game just to wait for my character to take one swing at a dragon. Once the screen reaches its limit, the game loses its immersion and becomes extremely annoying to play.
Overall, Skyrim could have been one of the best PS3 games ever made. Everything is there: perfect immersion, an amazing sense of progression and individuality with a story that revolves around you and you alone, and gameplay that allows you to build yourself up into one of Skyrim's greatest heroes. However, bugs and glitches bring this down, a dark stain on an otherwise flawless experience. Although the PC version is a much cleaner version that for the most part fixes these problems, Skyrim for the PS3 is a great adventure that everyone should experience, transcending its flaws in order to provide one of the most memorable RPGs in recent memory.

So i recently bought the Legendary Edition on PS3 and gave it a try. I needed to came here to do my personal and fast review because 3 years have passed since launch and guess what: most of the technical problems are still there. I am ~30h into the game and there are so many technical problems that make me unsure if i want to continue this mess.
First thing: the game. The atmosphere of the game itself it is what makes this game unique and is what can keep us playing despite the technical/performance problems: Ice Age+Viking atmosphere. The concept is a 1st/3rd person generic openworld WRPG with lots of freedom, with a nice overall upgrade character system. There are giants, mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, etc, etc, etc, DRAGONS, many character races, lots of quests, lots of caverns, lots dungeons, many distinct cities, etc, etc, etc, lots weapon/items upgrades/creation, nice skill trees, lots of skills/magics/summons, etc, etc, etc. I personally think the level up system and skill trees/perks/skills is a huge change from last games. It is a super plain and simple system and it is the best i have seen in ages in a game of this genre. If you like lots of freedom in a game, a nice level up system, this kind of atmosphere, many quests, DRAGONS, this game is for you.
Second thing: technical execution (of the PS3 version). For the ones who want still give it a try, at least in this version, you can count on frame rate issues, some breaks, some freezes, game late response to the gamepad, random dead dragons in the world and you can do nothing to them, random items bouncing like crazy on tables, floor, water, etc. So far even some quests had bugs like you can't talk to people you should to to progress the mission... I also had to turn off all of the autosaves because the game froze 6 times in 20 minutes of gameplay, and that was the way to stop that.
Another note: when you start the game for the very first time, the first autosave is bugged. It won't let you save the game any further and the autosave system will not work. You must ignore that and start the game again with another save file without deleting that very first autosave.
Come on... Was this game finished/optimized ready to launch on consoles?

Pros: incredible atmosphere, the freedom, many cities, many dungeons, many caverns... and... DRAGONS!
Cons: technical side of the game. This is a complete mess of optimization of this version. What a shame.
Another cons is that some of the caverns seems to be a copy of each other, with different paths... And there could be more enemy variation, but its fine as it is in these two aspects.

If i could play the game normally on my PS3 i would gave it a 10/10. So i take 3 points due to the technical mess that is this version.

What i can conclude once more, now after the launch of The Evil Within, is that in Bethesda there are extremely good guys in the design/artwork side of the company but they have poor guys in technical/optimization side.
If you want to play Skyrim go to the PC version at least to avoid the major visual/performance problems.

I am now glad that in most official reviews of the new games the reviewers add some criticism to the technical side of the game so people can count on what to really expect from a game.

Good - Huge, beautiful and immersive world with almost limitless role play possibilities and gameplay choices. Like all truly great games, you can sink hours into Skyrim without really doing much in the game. The main story, while not as well suited to all players races as Oblvions is excellent and fits perfectly into the land of the Nords. The overall gameplay is far superior to any scrolls game that has come before. JUst a great, great game with potentially thousands of hours of gameplay.

Bad - Yes there are some bugs that persist even today and some can be frustrating. Lore wise its just not as open ended as oblivion; if you care about such things as I do, you would never choose a Dragonborn to be anything but a Nord or maybe Imperial, anything else would be stupid.

Verdict - Any game of this scale is going to have bugs, some smaller ones have never been fixed, but that doesn't stop Skyrim from being a truly great game and possibly the best rpg ever made. 9/10, FACT.

To you I say that this game is no way deserving of such a low score and I am shocked by the amount of Negative scores. It seems some people punish the game because of their own systems or by coping off other websites 'reasons to dislike Skyrim.'

My review of the game is that the world is massive, the seemingly endless locations differ vastly and each city will provide it's individual quirks. The foes are completely different from one another and different gameplays; magic, hand to hand combat, ranged or dragon shouts give the game seemingly endless playability. The story and all is side stories are amazingly deep and differ from one another. And each DLC adds more and more volume to an already vast game and all it's content. On a final note the perk system is very well thought up and provide a range of upgrades to choose from each time you level up.

If you like Fallout or Red Dead Redemption (other games I've played) then give Skyrim a bash.

Since the updates, along with the long awaited DLC, Skyrim has become a fantastic game for PS3 gamers. While there are still frame rate issues with larger file sizes and some glitches in the game, nothing I've come across is actually game-breaking anymore.

In terms of story, Skyrim has an okay one to offer. It's pretty basic to break down without spoilers: you're the chosen custom created hero (Dovahkiin, or Dragonborn) who will follow some quests to save the world from an apocalyptic threat—a dragon by the name of Alduin. It's pretty fun, but very short. It can be completed in around 14 hours. That aside, there's so much more to do that makes this game live up to the hype. In fact, you don't even have to complete the main story to get something out of this game. Just go out and explore the beautiful visuals, create your own path and story, read some intriguing lore, and enjoy the experience that you forge.

Very disappointing. Cant remember such a huge flaw. The game itself = 9

Also the PAL versions, except the UK version, do have a glitched trophy (Master criminal).

You dont screw hundreds of thousand of people on their money, and expect to get out of it clean.

I bought the PS3 version, 30 hours in I couldnt take it anymore.
It looks very bad compared to the other platforms, the perfomance is just awful.
I tried to return it, but they wouldnt let me.
It ended up on the shelf, and I "bought" the PC version.

Now I could say, stick to the 360/PC, just keep away from the PS3 version and you should be alright.
But no, dont buy it all.
First of they dont deserve your money (many devs/publishers dont, but an example must be made at some point).
Second, they keep putting out patches that makes things worse, bugs etc.
In the end you shouldnt feel safe, whatever platform you choose chances are you end up having alot of problems with the game.

    Dont buy.
Atleast wait until the prices have dropped alot, and they have fixed all the bugs.
    If they ever do.

From the very get-go I was amazed, astounded and delighted by nearly every aspect of the game and enjoyed it thoroughly. This lasted about 4 days, the entire time of which I felt that this was a game more than worthy of Game of the Year from developers who deserved their award as Developers of the Year also.
This was until my game progressively became unplayable. I'm not talking bugs or even the occasional quest breaking glitch. I have played and enjoyed many of Bethesda's games and understand that with a game of this scale and complexity these are issues that, although sometimes infuriating, are to be expected.
What is not expected is that after hours of playtime, the game's framerate progressively slowed to a crawl, particularly in densely populated areas - which are some the central hubs of the most integral parts of the game. Whereas most developers reward extensively playing a game, Bethesda seems to have gone the alternate route and actively punished PS3 owners for putting large amounts of their free time into a game that ultimately treats you to a slideshow after days of accumulated playtime. It seems highly unlikely that this would not have been noticed in pre-sale quality assurance, and much more likely that it was simply ignored in favour of not losing sales after a delayed release.
This either complete lack of quality assurance or failure to act on Bethesda's part is compounded by the utter lack of support in the aftermath. After a day-one patch which fixed minor issues, 2 patches have been released since - the first well over a week after the lag problem was reported, which addressed yet more minor issues, but instead of fixing anything only seemed to intensify the problem, introducing a whole new host of problems - backwards flying dragons to name but one. This culminated in the third and final patch for this year, which seems to be dedicated more to fixing the things broken by patch 2 than any of the already outlying problems. The only noticeable change was that despite any and all previous issues, an hour after downloading the update I had my first loading screen full-on freeze.
This had, and still has, the potential to be if not Game of the Year, then possibly Game of the Decade. As it lies, this is a truly amazing game that has been left broken and ruined either by the laziness or malice of the developers that have made little to no effort to correct their errors, and offered nothing in the way of explanation or apology for those who wasted full-price on a game that shouldn't have even been released.

Luckily I've never had anything corrupted other than skyrim data... yet.) and if you turn off auto-save, you'll still eventually get a game that devolves into a slideshow whenever there's more than 2 characters active on the screen.

Bottom line: if you have a PC or 360, get the game on one of those platforms. If you buy the game on PS3, you will regret it. If you don't have a PC or 360, skip this game... at least until the day Bethesda patches the game and fixes all the game breaking technical issues. However, if the recent Fallout titles were any indication, this game won't be fixed... buyer beware.

Skyrim really should have been a 10 from me, but the issues surrounding the lag and broken quests which can so easily infect your save game meaning that 40 hrs of game play is down the drain means I simply cannot say it is fit for purpose.

4 out of 10 is all I can give it and even then I think that is misleading, as you cannot complete the game nor explore most of it without encountering the issues noted above.

Skyrim is an outstanding game. I've played open world games before, but Skyrim has taken some of the best from each and put into one package. It feels like a hybrid of the best of Oblivion and Fallout, and everything NOT WORKS.DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.THIS GAME IS BROKEN.After your save file hits 5 MB bye bye Skyrim...

**STEER WELL CLEAR. GAME IS BROKEN ON PS3.**

I'll describe it like this. On PS3, the longer you play, the more you do. The more you do, the more information the game has to store in its save file. The more information it stores in its save file, the bigger the save file gets. The bigger the save file gets, the slower the games framerate runs. The slower the games framerate runs the harder

The more information it stores in its save file, the bigger the save file gets. The bigger the save file gets, the slower the games framerate runs. The slower the games framerate runs the harder it is to move. Eventually, before you've seen even half of its total content your game grinds to a complete halt and you can't interact with NPC's or activate, complete quests or items. This tends to happen after only about 60 hours of gameplay. The game is advertised as having approx 300 hours of content in it. There has been no fix for this yet announced by Bethesda and it is a universal problem. It happens to everyone, just at different times. I repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR PS3.

When I heard it for the first time, I couldn't believe it. But I went to my friend's house and tried Skyrim on PS3, I loaded his save and was shocked by how laggy the game actually was.In fact, it went almost over the point of being playable. If you have a choice, make sure NOT to buy Skyrim for PS3

Unfortunately, this game is broken on the PS3. While it works fine out of the box, once your save file hits a certain size or you have played enough hours, frame rate drops drastically, at some points freezing completely. See the video at Digital Foundry for examples.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an amazing game. Easily one of the best titles of 2011. However the PS3 version is absolutely unplayable past a certain hour/savegame size. At the time I'm writing this review, the PS3 copy is borderline broken. While you can enjoy the rich, epic experience that is Skyrim for the first dozen or so hours of gameplay, eventually you're going to run into the dreaded FPS lag glitch that is plaguing all PS3 owners. Bethesda have still not fixed this problem and until they do fix it, which is not looking like anytime in the near future, this game is pretty much impossible to recommend to anyone who is thinking of buying it on this console. You expect a fair amount of bugs and glitches with a large, open world RPG such as this, but the type of bug that reduces your framerate to single digits after 30 minutes of playtime is something that just isn't acceptable. It's a damn shame too because this is a game you're going to LOVE spending time with, but after a few hours deep in, your console is going to punish you for it.

If these problems didn't exist, this game is worth easily a 9 or a 10 and some people claim they've never run into these problems. But all the talk of it crashing hard drives and causing constant lock ups will pretty quickly remind you that you're playing russian roulette with your system. So if you're like me you're probably going to end up trading your copy in for the PC or 360 version, which isn't without its fair share of problems, but isn't going to make mince of your processor.

Here's hoping Bethesda fix the problem soon, before they earn more negative reviews.

Bethesda if you ever read these reviews you should be ashamed. This game is broken on the PS3. Also thanks to patch 1.2 magic resistance is broken WTF? Then you com out on your own site and talk about the memory (RAM) issues with tthe PS3.....so why not delay that version and fix it, or not release it at all on the PS3! You think that you are the only ones that don't want to work on Christmas? Most of us have to, and this game is broken, for the PS3. You should work on it until its fixed, but I guess you are better than that eh bethesda? I own the 360 version, and rented the PS3 version just to see how bad it was and I AGREE 100% WITH EVERYTHING PS3 USERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT!

On the PS3 the graphics are inferior, even with out texture issues, the lag gets awful for most with a decent sized save file. Just remember who WON'T be buying your games on PS3 next time you release a game on that platform, all the users that you (Bethesda) burned wont! I give the PS3 version of this game a 0. ITS JUNK DON'T BUY IT!

This is a game full of emotions for gamers who are willing to embrace it. A beautiful fantasy land that makes loading times a thing of the past and is full of surprises. Not only do you get a lot of variety in the locations, the gameplay offers a lot of different experiences as well. [December 2011, p.66]

I enjoyed Skyrim and I look forward to the DLC that we know is inevitably coming. If we looked at this honestly, though, this game probably should have been pushed back a month or so for more polish. It needed it and it still does.

Skyrim is a gorgeous production that truly does justice to the words "roleplaying game." It doesn't just tell us a story, it gives us the chance to tell a story of our own. At its best, that's what an interactive art form should be all about. [Jan 2011, p.73]
