As playgrounds for the adults, the wealthy, and the risk takers, they are full of excitement and a little bit of danger, and so filled with exotic sights and sounds that I could almost smell the food vendors or rain on the asphalt after a storm; that’s how effective this game is at bringing me back to Japan for just a little while.

Yakuza 5 is the best entry to the franchise so far. It offers more of the same, so it’ll please fans of the saga with its improvements in every aspect, but won’t win new fans among those who have tried previous titles and didn't like them. The amount of content packed in the game is impressive, and the detail put in the cities recreations is astonishing.

It’s a shame that such an amazing game is trapped inside PS3 and therefore is condemned to frequent technical issues caused by the lack of power and will never gain the popularity it deserves. [02/2016, p.46]

Yakuza 5 may no longer be dressed for the part, but like any respectable gangster, it has a good heart beating beneath its unkempt exterior. It's a fitting analogy for a game that's ultimately all about aging, so while time may have been tough on Kiryu and crew, this dense and occasionally oddball adventure still has plenty of strong stories to tell.

Still gaming’s most realistic crime drama, as well as being the natural heir to both Shenmue and Streets Of Rage – even if this entry shows little real innovation.

Probably the best Yakuza game to date. I've played pretty much all of them and Yakuza 5 is the most fun I've had. Great fun mini-gamesProbably the best Yakuza game to date. I've played pretty much all of them and Yakuza 5 is the most fun I've had. Great fun mini-games including an actual, playable arcade with some actual Sega games, better combat system, surprisingly compelling side quests and memorable characters. I'm still only in Chapter 1 but so far I'm enjoying the game so much, glad it finally made state side.

The only downside is it's only on the PS3. I can understand the aging graphics because it was released back in 2012, but this only makes me want an HD re-release on the PS4 more.

But overall, great entry to the Yakuza franchise and definitely a must play if you're a fan! Can't wait for Yakuza 0!!

Y5 features 5 playable characters, each crafted with a unique personality and plotline. The story isn't my favorite in the series, but the presentation is once again superb. There is no lack of intensity, suspense, drama, or humor. Optional mini-games and side stories are available as well. Yakuza 5 is an overall great experience. Expand

It has a great gameplay and great soundtrack, but the history feels weird and having a lot of characters doesn't help too much like in 4, you got plenty of cities, but some of them almost nothing to do, the history lost sight of what created and the end didn't explained very well. Still, a very fun game to play. Expand
