What is does get abundantly right is its unique tone, powerful narrative, masterful writing, and a visual style that fooled me into underestimating it makes it worthy of praise.

However, as a final product, Alone With You is still very-much worth investing in due to the fantastic story it tells and the game’s palpable world. It’s just a shame however, that these features of the game weren’t simply left alone.

There’s a lot to love in Alone With You: the wonderful art style, the synth soundtrack, the well written story, and the way it touches on interesting subjects being just a few. However, unnecessary padding and busy work really drag the overall enjoyment down.

Alone With You is an endearing adventure, albeit a flawed one. Despite its dark subject matter, it somehow remains to have a lighthearted tone with its pastel, washed-out aesthetic. I admired the different locations and existential tone, but longed for a more captivating storyline. Like the holographic cast it chronicles, this experience lacks a distinct personality, leaving it as a charming but forgettable adventure.

Alone With You boasts a charming retro audiovisual aesthetic and some really strong character work, all underpinned by an intriguing central mystery. Unfortunately, getting to these moments involves repetitive, uninventive gameplay that can be a slog to get through.

If Alone With You had been as emotionally effective throughout, I would be singing its praises right now. I’m usually more than willing to forgive boring, repetitive gameplay if a game leaves me a frenzied, sobbing mess on the floor. But in the case of Alone With You, I spent too much time bored with the gameplay, and annoyed that the characters were telling me how they assumed I felt. I'm curious about the other secrets I could discover, and other endings — but not curious enough to go back.

The tale of love and loss in Alone With You is certainly memorable, but the tedious and simple gameplay begins to grate before you reach the end.

Alone With You provides an interesting ride for players, but doesn’t manage to fulfill its potential. The romantic side of the game feels underdeveloped, and I ran into bugs often enough to hamper my enjoyment. That said, it has an interesting enough story that is worth checking out and its shortcomings can’t undo a solid story that is told well.

Alone with You is a game in the same way that a statuette is a doorstop – it works and it’s interesting to look at, but it would be better off doing something else. This title’s compelling writing is let down by its monotonous gameplay, and I’m just not willing to endure one to enjoy the other.

It's one thing to make a beautiful looking and sounding game, it's another to make a UNIQUELY beautiful looking and sounding game. TheIt's one thing to make a beautiful looking and sounding game, it's another to make a UNIQUELY beautiful looking and sounding game. The graphics are stunning in their originality and atmosphere and the music and SFX are atmospheric and haunting lending perfectly to the overall feel of the game.

The game play is standard puzzle solving with more of a focus on the surprisingly deep world that's been created. Interactions with your holographic colleagues you meet throughout the game can be both comforting and unsettling as you unravel the events leading up to the games main story and find a way to escape this doomed colony.

This game is not for everyone as it falls more onto the "Visual Novel" spectrum of gaming as opposed to puzzle adventure but, with it's excellent price and unique presentation I like to think gamers who wouldn't normally steer towards dialogue heavy retro inspired games might give this one a try.

An absolute treat to play and an all around great experience I won't forget anytime soon.

The last survivor of a mission to inhabit a hostile planet attempts to escape with the help of an advanced AI.

The story isn’t totally uninteresting but the ‘gameplay’, which consists pretty much entirely of wandering between/around locations clicking the X button, is dull and repetitive and I quickly lost interest.
