"This is the best game in the Assassin’s Creed series. That extra year of development time has really helped Ubisoft find its creative centre again, and craft something that feels both fresh and energised. I could take or leave the shifts in gameplay to make this more like the loot-grind RPG-likes that dominate blockbuster game development now, but when Ubisoft is playing so beautifully within a fascinating period of history, all I care about is how utterly engrossed I am with the storytelling." ... "Origins is a great game that relies heavily on its setting to make an impact on the player. Its gameplay also evolves, and although it still has some of the issues the series have been suffering in the last few entries, it’s definitely a step in the right direction. If you’ve ever been interested in the series, don’t miss this one." ... Read full review

"After taking a year off, Assassin's Creed is going through a transitional period and taking players back to the very founding of the Brotherhood in Ancient Egypt is symbolic of that. The vast new setting, the improved combat system and moving the series towards being a real action RPG have injected this series with a new life." ... Read full review

"Assassin’s Creed: Origins offers an engrossing and deeply satisfying open world in the lands of Egypt. Gorgeous visuals make it a lovely place to explore with rich environments. Still, the excessive amount of bugs at launch are devastating and hampered my experience significantly. Add to that a poorly paced narrative devoid of substantial character development and a battle system that fails to meet its full potential and I can't help but feel something important is missing, Regardless, Assassin's Creed: Origins has a lot to offer new and old fans alike - though the state of its technical performance at launch is highly questionable." ... Played for a couple hours I have no issues at all, everything runs smooth for me and the game has not crashed.

Visuals are amazing, I love that you get flashback missions not just cutscenes when something big happens like killing a high-rank enemy, giving you a backstory to the point of why your taking down this high rank masked one etc. the map is quite big bigger than any AC universe and if you wanna 100% this game then it will take you some time.

Struggling a little with combat I'm so used to countering then killing like all the other AC games if you think the combat is simple compared to the other games your in for a little surprise!

YES! there is a Helix credit system, so for people who don't have time to grind can buy in-game currency to spend and some weapons can be unlocked via Uplay credits which are free to earn via your Uplay account anyway. I personally don't buy in-game content at all and only believe that if micro-transactions are on multiplayer games it is unfair.... for single player games the only things you buy with your real money for in-game currency..... if you even want to buy them only affects your personal experience for campaign, not like GTA Online, Battlefield, Battlefront 1 & 2 Loot Packs etc etc so for single player content i don't mind but I personally don't buy content from any game I play!

Apart from that 10/10 definately an upgrade for syndicate and the bugged monster Unity!

Would recommend.

Forgive me. I had to rewrite my review. Forget what I said, and down with the Nay sayers. Micro- Transactions, Loot Boxes in this game,Forgive me. I had to rewrite my review. Forget what I said, and down with the Nay sayers. Micro- Transactions, Loot Boxes in this game, whatever. None of that impacts the experience. I will probably be playing this well into next year. Best game I've played since Witcher 3 and Horizon 0 Dawn. Glad I bought it (Standard Edition). Will be buying all the DLC depending on the content. Do yourself a favor and get this game. Expand

I do not feel the side missions are grinding. the combat system is good, the enemies are smart and HARD. you can not counter everything and if you engage a group of people or even a person of 1 level higher than you, you will get killed.

As it is a new game, there are certainly some glitches, but im sure a patch will improve it.

If you want to see an excellent example of how to revitalise a dying franchise, look no further than this game.

A fresh new start for the Assassins Creed world. The new gameplay is a improvement but strays further away from the feeling of the Desmond parts.

It took Ubisoft 2 years to produce Origins. And, what did we get?

A super polished equivalent to watching paint dry.

In truth, Origins is everything they were told they needed to do (fix the bugs, make the Animus experience clean, GRAPHICS!!) and the rest of the package be dammed. The Ubisoft staples are all here; game mechanics found in other IP's they own are here, as are most other assets from older AC games as well as new ones found in For Honor for example (combat feels like a tone down version of it). Then there are the same tired tropes from older AC games like collecting things, opening up the map, going to areas marked with something (for example they now are a ?) for minor benefits, helping wooden NPC's do a trivial thing and finally a Main mission system that leads to a abandoned narrative they only have here because had they cut the Meta-narrative (like you lot all want for some reason) they legitimately couldn't continue calling it Assassin's Creed anymore. Maybe "Microtransaction Virtual Reality Simulator Game" would be apropos.

And for those claiming Ubisoft took a good long time to develop this, I got news for you: They had this done last year. Complete and ready to ship in the tried and true process they have had for nearly the entirety of this franchise. You had an Assassin's Creed title last year; it was the movie, and this game literally takes place right after the events of the movie. So if you think they were taking their time to make an amazing game that rights the wrongs of the last few titles...I have this bridge in Brooklyn to sell you...

The game is nice to look at, Nearly Horizon Zero Dawn levels of beauty, what is missing is an engrossing narrative; either in the animus or outside of it. On 4K with the now implemented HDR support makes it even better, but looks are not everything.

As a long time fan of this series (like i'd suspect most here are), I have to question why I bought this? Is it out of loyalty to the series? Is it hope that they will get back to what actually matters to this series: the meta plot and a rational outcome? I don't think they will now. They have milked this narrative since AC3 and it doesn't look like they will EVER take the next step.

I write this with sadness, but this might be my final going into the AC universe. AC3 was the end of the series for me, the rest...are just filler; in particular Origins. Not a good starting off point for new players, not worth your time if you are a veteran. There is more than a video game than game play and graphics, it needs a reason to play it. It needs something the player can invest in. It needs an engaging story. This title is the perfect example of this and precisely what not to do.

The line has ended, the series is done. I say Assassin's Creed Origins is a pass, for about everyone.

Update-12/1/17 This game is nothing but a giant, boring collect-o-thon slog. The beautiful world they created here has become a stale existence as all locals meld into the same visuals over and over. I don't care about places anymore, all I do is travel from zone to zone in my level, go to each place and "unlock" the unexplored parts for . I'm almost level 40 and about half the world is unlocked! The story is lost to me and as it the plot or pacing.

I am firmly finished with Assassin's Creed if this is how they are going to make future titles.

Origins is Torture.
