Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is a fantastic game. Let me repeat that: It’s a fantastic game. The lingering control issues (and even these are minimized) and some minor pacing issues as a result of the two-protagonist approach can’t taint this gargantuan project.

A triumphant return to form for a franchise, and presents a beautifully structured tale with heart and soul to spare.

The game's high production values were a bit diminished by the series' longstanding fallacies, such as random lag and instances of poor texturing, but London remains a gorgeous place to visit.

The Assassin's saga is starting to feel a bit tired when it comes to structure and gameplay, but Syndicate does pretty much everything that Unity tried to do better (well, except for the multiplayer, completely taken out of the game), and grabs the player's attention with great characters and finally a decent storyline. Also, the virtual London is splendid, but you expected that, right?

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate gets more right than it gets wrong, but in trying to amend some of the sins of the series, it exacerbates the issues instead of offering a cure. Despite that rather lengthy list of cons at the bottom of my review, one thing’s for sure: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is still a hell of a lot of fun.

Syndicate is a massive shame. Ubisoft’s yearly development cycle is really beginning to leave its mark on the series. Assassin’s Creed has been good. It is a series that can be great, but unfortunately Syndicate is a misstep. For a series concerned with making its players historical tourists, it is ironic that it is so stuck in the past.

The characters are well written, familiar gameplay mechanics such as the whistling and being able to pick up bodies is back, the story has clever links to the story of the other AC games, the modern day is better and actually goes somewhere (albeit the ending is absolute wank) and the side missions are implemented well into the goal of the main story. Do not hate this game from the beginning just because you hated AC UNITY.. AC SYNDICATE as so many things to offer which AC UNITY failed. FryeDo not hate this game from the beginning just because you hated AC UNITY.. AC SYNDICATE as so many things to offer which AC UNITY failed. Frye twins are probably one of the best assassins , particularly the sister Evie frye certainly is one of the best Assassins (after EZIO) . The arguments between the frye twins over personal interest is fun. The side missions are huge and great. The rope launcher , a new addition to the AC series is fun traveling from one point to another in less time which i use often over fast travel. This game does has many things to offer. Well done Ubi.. (Y) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After Assassin's Creed Unity, Syndicate is a definitive step in the right direction, even if it's not the best the series has to offer.

Jacob and Evie are among the better protagonists in the series, Evie in particular. Both have their own distinct personality, and even vary in gameplay, with Jacob excelling at taking and delivering punishment, and Evie's power lying in being invisible to her enemies and killing them without anyone knowing. Unfortunately, the game doesn't play to their strengths for the most part. Jacob will always be thrown in situations where he has to be stealthy, and Evie will always be thrown in situations where she has to fight. In addition, despite Evie being the far more interesting character, she gets 2 missions for Jacob's 3.

In terms of gameplay, for better or for worse, this is Assassin's Creed. You climb buildings, assassinate targets, and fight enemies like any other game in the series. The assassination missions are among the best in the series. Unlike the other games in the series providing a "here's your target, just make sure they die," each assassination feels like you're planning a heist, with taking time to plan your entrance and escape, find people to help or exploit, and using one of the multiple paths there are to take in order to make sure your target dies.

The biggest change to exploration comes in the form of the rope launcher, which allows you to traverse across and up buildings in mere seconds. For those of you who get tired of spending minutes climbing up a building just to jump off, this is a lifesaver. For those of you who do like to climb things, that's still a perfect option, especially since the speed at which you climb has been boosted.

Naturally, you have a large open world to explore, with various side missions and collectables to explore. Sadly, there are no dungeons where you can test your freerunning skills to find super armour, like in previous games. Your side missions consist of you pretty much doing the same things you would do in any other mission, which causes the game to start feeling repetitive if you want to free London from Templar rule.

Overall, Assassin's Creed Syndicate does not revitalize the franchise in the way that 2 or Black Flag did. It has it's issues, with a repetitive structure, a lack of unique gameplay options for each twin, and a pretty anti-climactic ending. That being said, the things Syndicate does right outweigh the problems it has. It may not be the best in the series, but at the end of the day, it's fun, and that's what matters. For me, in terms of quality, it's at around the same area as Revelations, if not a little higher. So take that for what you will.

London featured in this game is extremely gorgeous. Landmarks like The Big Ben are detailedly manifested. The storyline is ok but theLondon featured in this game is extremely gorgeous. Landmarks like The Big Ben are detailedly manifested. The storyline is ok but the characters are likable. It is a great gaming experience to play as 2 assassins of distinctive personalities with different styles of missions. It comes to my surprise when I figured out there is a World War I simulator hidden in the course of the game. Also, growing up a gang is cool. However, the gameplay is somehow repetitive and soon lose its charm. Expand

I love Victorian settings and I wish they would get explored more in video games but not in this way. This is one of the most tedious games I have ever played. Not only is the main story itself a chore but there is nothing to do in the sandbox itself. It's just empty and feels lifeless especially when you compare it to the densely packed and lively streets of Unity. The graphics are also much worse when compared with Unity and the combat is incredibly dull. You will forget the story the moment you beat it, it's that forgettable and unremarkable.
