2016’s Battlefield 1 was a refreshing revisit to the first World War that introduced new elements to the genre. Battlefield V refines some of those features, but doesn’t break any new innovative ground. It has enough content to keep you occupied, possesses a decent progression system that keeps you invested, and will receive free future DLC without a whiff of loot crates or microtransactions. However, it follows an expected blueprint that may quickly grow stale for players looking for a fresh FPS experience.

Battlefield V is another fun entry in this well established shooter series. The problem is that it's full of bugs and feels unfinished at launch.

Who knew that the horrors of war could ultimately end up being so goddamn beautiful?

Ripe with potential but riddled with problems, the new Battlefield will be brilliant six months from now. Right now, however, it’s merely a good shooter. [Issue#157, p.83]

EA and DICE seem to have lost sight of what made this series a true contender for the FPS crown, and both the gameplay and the content are suffering as a result.

DICE almost always delivers when it comes to technology and multiplayer gameplay, and this is true with BFV. But Battlefield V is also plagued with bugs, looks half-finished and, overall, it gives the impression of a product that was rushed to the market.

A game that aspires to be both a legitimate portrayal of war and an entertaining video game, but opts to take the easy route and do rid with any semblance of mature, balanced storytelling and instead replaces it with a rushed, disjointed campaign and a multiplayer component that’s getting seriously long in the tooth.

Despite all the controversy, the game is very good.
I think games should be evaluated as games.

The people complaining about "revisionist history"Tons of hateful reviews with false information here, some accurate criticisms though. The people complaining about "revisionist history" aren't wrong, but I didn't pick up a video game for a history lesson and the single player campaign is designed to give you an opportunity to get used to some of the game mechanics and now that The Last Tiger is playable (best story by far) it really shows off some great story telling. Now multiplayer, let's get down to the mode people actually buy this game for. Yes there are women, yes there are minorities (but not in the Axis unlike CoD WW2, but yeah sure DICE is evil revisionist history). Despite the massive marketing flubs that EA/DICE made this is the most fun I've had with a battlefield title in a while. The gunplay is smooth and we are getting plenty of new weapons, yes some of them made appearances in BF1 but they all feel different. I waiting to write this review until Tides of War started, there are some bug issues but DICE is doing an amazing job of communicating with the community about what they are doing and when to expect patches. As far as Tides of War goes it is fun, it gives you custom cosmetics, new weapons and outfits, dog tags, emblems and all sorts of stuff, it also gives you some interesting challenges that can help you broaden your play style. I paid $100 CAD for the deluxe, with the sale that's on now I say buy it! You are going to get a ton of game play out of the most solid shooter experience dice has put out in a while.

Live service - did it release with all intended content for the life of the game? No, instead we get a roadmap for content and we are looking at additional game modes, weapons, factions, locations and vehicles over the course of the games lifespan. DICE has done a great job of being engaging with the community and transparent in what we can expect and when we can expect it and it looks like this game is going to have a great future.

If you are offended that there are women and minorities, if that is what bothers you the most about this game, honestly the community right now is the best state I've seen a battlefield community in in a while (on PS4) and we're probably better off without you.

Unless you buy cosmetics with real life money you’re character looks plain also. Expand

The devs are no longer doing what's best for the game and clearly what ever crunch leadership is putting them through is ruining the very little integrity that this game still has after a year. I had my moments of fun, so it doesn't deserve a 0, but as for Leadership at DICE? If i could give a lower score then 0, I would. Fire those incompetent shmucks, or more likely yet, promote them into something uninstrumental. Expand

Comfortable and realistic gameplay and good mechanics but the setting is too far from WW2.
