An enjoyably sedate outing around the suburbs, marred by the antiquated and dull visuals, Bus Simulator nonetheless provides a good chunk of all too real simulation of public transport.

Bus Simulator is honestly more entertaining than I thought it would be. Driving a bus, picking up passengers, and ensuring you give them the correct change may not be as thrilling as traversing planet Pandora in search of loot in Borderlands 3, or surviving Hell on Earth in the upcoming Doom Eternal, but Bus Simulator is an immersive experience that I can see myself revisiting on a rainy day.

A curiously compelling gameplay loop makes Bus Simulator much more entertaining than it has any right to be. The presentation is poor, but the act of actually picking up passengers and taking them to A-to-B in an expanding open world is moreish, and the title has a self-aware sense of humour that’s easy to appreciate.

There’s a calming sense of satisfaction to be had from Bus Simulator, though you’ll have to work for it. This is the very definition of a slow burner - it’s deliberately repetitive in a way that will irk most gamers, yet caters perfectly to a specific niche.

Bus Simulator takes the bus driving experience and presents it warts and all. At times, it's relaxing and satisfying to have a smooth journey, at others, it's a drudge to be caught in traffic. The career operates at a slow pace and, whilst short, your objectives all become very similar. Technically, the game struggles to stay smooth but there's a novel multiplayer on display that might provide longevity for fans.

Bus Simulator is a perfectly adequate way to live out your dreams of being a bus driver, but it all feels a tad samey.

Very entertaining. When compared to other bus simulators, like OMSI 2, which are pure driving with excellent sound and physics, Bus SimulatorVery entertaining. When compared to other bus simulators, like OMSI 2, which are pure driving with excellent sound and physics, Bus Simulator on PS4 can disappoint you about that since the buses sounds and physics aren't the greatest. But Bus Simulator does very unique things that kings of bus sims don't: it has a whole management aspect, where you create your company and need to buy buses and hire drivers with in-game currency (and no microtransactions !). Also there are lots of random events, such as passengers blocking your doors or listening to loud music, your route may be diverted because of road construction, or when it is a holiday in the game and thus you get much more passengersand much more money from ticket selling. There are also fare evaders you can give a fine to if you verifies your passengers tickets. Would I recommend it to you ? Yes ! Expand

Driving a bus from the cockpit has always being an awesome profession to me.

This game is a good attempt, but not completely. The first thing you'll notice is that the game itself is kinda humorous, although after 4-5 hours playing, the jokes from the npcs become repetitive. The graphics are really dated out, looks like ps3/360 generation when they where starting back in 2007. The gameplay is awesome as you get to drive the bus, and the AI of the passengers kinda pays off, you'll have to tell them to please move from the door, turn their music down or ask them not to leave trash on the bus time to time (one can turn down the frequency of these events, or turn them off completely).

One of the key things I loved from this particular game when compared to my previous bus game (BusDriver by SCS on Steam) is the fact that you build your own routes instead of just driving them, as well as hiring drivers and buying buses, basically managing your own public transportation company.

The main issue with this game is that, even tough is for a console and has previous generation graphics and IA, most of the times runs like crap, and when is not running like crap it runs like diarrhea. Is unbelievable how a programmer can f*** up optimization on a console that is perfectly fine running such advance open worlds that are 100 times bigger and more complex than this one, like RDR2, GTA, Ghost Reckon Wildlands, The Witcher 3 and so on... This game needs an update badly, because 60 frames per second is the bare minimum acceptable for a game this simple looking, and this is my main reason for giving it the score I gave it.

Another thing the developer definitively missed here is the VR factor. When one plays the simplest game on a VR it instantly becomes into something unbelievably fun and attractive. I have played games such as Job SImulator or Headmaster (heading soccer balls into a net) which may sound silly but are 110% fun when wearing a VR set. Bus Simulator is a game that was made for VR, it could translate perfectly without modifying much of the established gameplay and it would probably enhance the fun factor by a 100. Astragon must realize that us, bus enthusiasts, are a very rare market niche as anybody else would consider the mundane task of driving a bus not fun at all (just as pretending to headbutt a soccer ball), but when optimizing this game for VR one could virtually (no pun intended) see sales of the game doubling up as it will more interesting and funnier.

In conclusion, even with its cons (and believe me, there's a lot of them) the game is still playable and really fun, I would say is more fun than it deserves to be, but unless you are a hardcore auto-bus fan like myself, you should definitively wait for Astragon to either fix the laggy gameplay or to put the game at a sale for $5 or $10 tops. If it wasn't for the constant frame dropping this could easily be a 8 or 8.5 review.

I hope you find this helpful.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm myself a bus driver.... I enjoy games like spintyres, farm sim, dirt rally... I did my pre order 1 month b4 the launch... High expectations...... But in the reality is a flop.... And to be honest because my last 2 purchases (2 flops that don't worth even 5 euros wreck fest and bus ) I'm thinking about quit games or atleast stopbuy them cause it's a waste of money.. Video games conpanys and industry is so messed up, so dirty that it makes me fell sad and frustrated , if this game worth 40 euros then a masterpiece like red dead or God of War they should cost 1000 euros without a doubt. Bus sim is bad, buggy, and the multi-player servers are sick and slow don't waste ur money. Expand
