Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - Multiplayer Overview
Autoplay On Off
Nov 7, 2016It all adds up to the finest Call of Duty game yet, and it comes from the riskiest package. By and large, Call of Duty’s Warfare line has always maintained the slightest bit grounded, never quite leaping into the distant future by this much...But the leap is a success, underachieving tradition of Michael Bay films be damned.
Nov 4, 2016Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare succeeds in most aspects of a solid sci-fi shooter. However, a lackluster and rushed story takes away from what could have been a full and complete campaign mode. Luckily where the story lacks, the gameplay and solid mechanics Call of Duty deliver.
Nov 7, 2016Even though Zombies in Spaceland and multiplayer are just more of the same, as a whole, it’s hard to find an FPS on the market as fully-featured as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The campaign is the surprise highlight, with heart-pounding action, jaw-dropping graphics, and fresh ideas for the series, making it worth checking out even for those disappointed by its sci-fi themes.
Nov 3, 2016An assemblage of hits and misses, that's the measure of this year's Call of Duty. I could say something about publisher Ubisoft pulling back from its annualized Assassin's Creed franchise, or how even Doctor Who gets a break. But it's probably simplest to remind that it's shooter season, and this year, the alternatives are formidable.

If you're like me and not played COD for a few year IW is a great way to jump back, the campaign is awesome and multiplayer lots of fun. It also comes packaged with the best FPS of all time MW1. Dont jump on the hate bandwagon, be a real gamer and try for yourself.… Expand

And, i think it's easy to argue that Titanfall 2 is the best twitch-shooter of the past 5-10 years. Not least because all of it's DLC is included in the base price!
That said, I recently picked up a used version of Infinite Warfare for PS4, largely because I wanted a fun couch co-op/competitive shooter that might rekindle memories of the last CoD game I played - MW3 more than several years ago. I have been very impressed. The single player is very much CoD in space with a nice dash of BSG in the story. It's corny but frenetic and fun.
The multiplayer I've played so far is tight and fun. Not terribly different from the experience from MW3; probably faster, quicker spawn to death, and a decent attempt by a dev team trying to capture the wall-running sci fi magic that Respawn perfected in Titanfall 2. The modes are diverse, the guns typically balanced, and the perks/superpowers fun and not too OP or game skewing. But it is fun.
I wish the 1v1 maps/mode from that latter MW3 update was here, but the bots are surprisingly good for bots. They cut moves (spot proning for example) that are good practice for someone trying to practice maps and play around with weapons etc..
Zombies is a great experience too, and very fun for cough co-op. Seriously, with all the zombie DLC that has been released, this mode is easily a fully fleshed out stand-alone.
The fact that 4/5s of Zombies and over half of the MP maps are locked behind a $50 season pass, is absolutely inexcusable though. I bought infinite for 20 bucks and I want to buy the DLC but at this point, just even a few months before the sequel sequel releases, $50 for the full content is a blatantly cynical and abusive posture by Activision. Surprise, surprise.
To be fair, the content in the base game looks expensive, high production values and quality. The DLC does seem like a lot of content. It is still too expensive, and the money grubbing practice it over all insulting.
Overall, I am really enjoying this game in all three of its main pillars (Campaign, MP, and Zombies). This is a great game solo and even better local or online with other people. If you like shooters, and can find this one on discount, it is absolutely worth checking out. Full price for the base game, season pass (not to mention MW remastered), probably not.
Activation deserves an infinite amount of criticism for their avaricious approach to marketing games but this game is certainly good and it's ultimately hard to criticize a company for squeezing a player base with abandon, when they continue to make bank in the process. Capitalism baby for better or worse.… Expand
Jul 13, 2018It's quite unfortunate that Infinite Warfare received such a rough start - especially considering that the game has the best (stand-alone)It's quite unfortunate that Infinite Warfare received such a rough start - especially considering that the game has the best (stand-alone) narrative campaign in the franchise. Reyes and Salt, among the other great characters, bring the campaign to life in a way that previous titles in the franchise haven't been able to do. This is an all-out war - and you really sense that. Combined with the amazing graphics both in-game and during cutscenes, it is impossible not to be immersed into the story - except if you're a flat-out hater. The campaign of Infinite Warfare shows a subtlety that is not present in any other title in the franchise. You get the sense that IW took some notes from games like The Last of Us and realized that sometimes - less is more. In Infinite Warfare, every cutscene is not filled with epic battles while being blasted with loud music, but instead we get to learn about the individual characters in a movie-like manner where sometimes the music might even be completely absent. Another key element is the continuity when it comes to artistic style in the campaign. There is a distinct filter that just makes everything pop. It looks professional, real, and life-like.
When it comes to the multiplayer I'll be honest - at first, I hated it and actually quit. However, after continually playing it I have gotten used to it. Most of the maps are decent, while others aren't exactly my favourite, but that's always the case. I'm not a huge fan of the implementation of weapon variants as it favours pay-to-win, but I've come to the conclusion that they don't make the biggest difference in-game. The rigs are probably the biggest problem in the multiplayer section. They just feel... boring. This is where IW should have taken notes from Treyarch and their specialists, who each had a voice, backstory and intention. The rigs are just simply... there. But again, the multiplayer by itself plays well once you get used to it.
Zombies is back and this time with a theme-park setting set in the past. At first, I thought it would be too goofy, but I've come to like it as it brings back vibes from the movie "Zombieland". So this zombies experience is a really fun one - if you're matched with people who actually know what they are doing.
Finally, it is by far the campaign of Infinite Warfare that has the biggest impact on the score.… Expand
Dec 14, 2016COD:IW has a lot of content:
1. Single player campaign (no co-op, unlike BO3).
2. Zombies. 3. Multiplayer, as usual. If you're afterCOD:IW has a lot of content:
1. Single player campaign (no co-op, unlike BO3).
3. Multiplayer, as usual.
If you're after content, then you're in luck.
However, that's where most of the good news ends. I don't know where to start...
Okay, single player campaign was boring. No amazing plot twists, no humongous discoveries, basically nothing new. It's very pedestrian, which is sad. I played on Veteran, without a walkthrough guide, and it took well over 10 hours to finish it. On easy difficulty it'll probably take 5-6 hours.
Zombies - I have to admit, I prefer IW zombies to BO3 zombies. But it's still nowhere as fun as either WAW or BO1 zombies, by a mile.
Multiplayer - this is where I have real issues...
* Everyone seems to be made of paper - it doesn't matter which gun you use, it takes just a split second to kill someone. At least in BO3, core modes were just that - core, not hardcore. You stood a chance of escaping a gunfight if you were quick. Not so IW - one bullet doesn't graze you, it kills you. This allows noobs to just fire and throw grenades randomly to get cheap kills. Definitely equip Blast Shield to get past the grenade spamming in MP.
* The Pick 10 system is screwed up. At least in previous CODs, equipping 2 tacticals would use up 2 slots... now it uses 3 slots.
* There seem to be fewer scorestreaks, and none of them are exciting (BO3's RAPS were great fun).
* As for the wall-running and thrust jumping, I don't have an issue with that. It started in AW, then improved upon in BO3. IW's is smooth, but I feel it's better implemented in BO3.
* All in all, MP is nowhere near as fun as in BO3 (or MWr for that matter). Maybe I'm biased, but Treyarch did MP much better. Heck, even AW had better MP because it was beginner-friendly (you could increase points needed to get scorestreaks, which meant the score wouldn't reset on death); Ghosts did something similar for beginners.
Campaign: 5 out of 10.
Zombies: 6 out of 10.
MP: 4 out of 10.
OVERALL SCORE: 5 out of 10.… Expand
