If you haven’t played this great game before, you should, because its combat is still fun as hell, and the atmosphere and overall design are fantastic. The Ultimate Edition is the perfect opportunity to catch up, especially that only this version offers a free upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X. [12/2020, p.49]

In the end, AWE is another solid but lacking chapter of Control. The gameplay is fun, and a fantastic boss in Hartman is introduced. But there’s not much more to it besides that. The new weapon form isn’t necessary, and I’m not even sure it fits in the narrative. There aren’t new abilities, and you’re going to finish AWE pretty quickly. But detractors aside, I got two things I really wanted, more of Alan Wake and more of Control, which is all that really matters. Here’s to hoping the Remedyverse has more of both for us out there.

Of the minuses, I note that on the base PS-4, the frame rate sags a lot in places with a large number of enemies. I didn't like DLC. Shadow theme in AWE was Cool, but in first boss fight I saw nithing, I know what to do but dont know how... It was awefull... But the main game is amazing. Try it.

PS5 upgrade is stellar with Ray Tracing as it really adds another level of finesse to this brilliant game. Great skill trees, gameplay loop, well written characters, level design is fantastic (Ashtray Maze sequence in particular is an absolute treat and is just such a **** awesome moment with a killer soundtrack to accompany the chaos that ensues). The expansions are also quite good especially with the unexpected, yet well intricated, crossover with Alan Wake.

The only main downside to this game is that the story is somewhat forgettable, simple and pretty boring. However that is nothing but an afterthought as the gameplay immediately thrusts that pendulum to the other side.

Control's combat offers more possibilities than previous Remedy games, especially Alan Wake. However, Control doesn't stand up to Alan WakeControl's combat offers more possibilities than previous Remedy games, especially Alan Wake. However, Control doesn't stand up to Alan Wake with its storytelling. The story is harder to grasp than Kojima's games are. That happens because the game does not start from the beginning and the lore is being told by hundreds of dull collectable logs.
The world is very destructible which leads to a massive amount of particles which lead to frames dropping below 10 fps on base PS4. This is one the worst performances I've ever seen.
Apart from the combat improvement which is a welcome innovation, Control fails to surpass Alan Wake in any other aspects. Absent characters, short play time. Control tries so hard to connect with Alan Wake, it almost feels like Remedy tries to "fan-trap" fans to buy Control with its DLCs.

Control is apparently Remedy's best selling game since Max Payne, yet they gave this game for free three times just this year. Something I can't understand.

Created an account just to say this game runs like @$$ on PS4 Slim. Specifically the Downloadable version if that makes a difference.
