Save the Moon in Counterspy, a title created by a team of incredibly talented developers and creators from many different mediums. Experience Bond-esque style in a brand new way.

It's a short game and the 3D perspective is lacking at times. However, those are the only flaws in an otherwise highly enjoyable title in a well-designed Cold War setting. Recommended.

CounterSpy is a nicely designed and presented game with a lot of appeal. You’ll have a lot of fun sneaking through these challenging military installations, and you’ll appreciate the character customization and relative depth.

When the stakes are low, the incongruity between CounterSpy’s stealth and action components matters little, but at DEFCON 1, you’re looking at mutual assured destruction. It’s a bit ironic that a game about escalating international tensions stumbles when it comes to its own escalating action.

The game taper[s] off into mediocrity after a few hours. [Issue#152, p.118]

It has all the elements to be a success, but if fails to mix them properly. The concept is original and we think it deserves a try, but it's a shame it doesn't get it right.

The draw of the Cold War setting, the visual aesthetic, and the soundtrack only last so long. And all too quickly, Counterspy gets left out in the cold.

I love the art direction and at no time does it seem like the game is trying to achieve more than it sets out to achieve initially. A fun spin on the espionage/stealth system made popular in games like Arkham City or Assassins Creed. Mind you, this game is not those games, rather… Expand

Combination of sneaking, shooting, and searching for secret areas hiding safes full of valuable intel. Test yourself for stealth kills and extra cash, make every shot count to save ammo, or equip that assault rifle and run for it before DEFCON triggers.
    Neat game, enjoyed it.

Granted, the shooting mechanic isn't quite as good or precise as you would like it to be, but by the same token, it's just as good as Uncharted or Last of Us. In fact the mechanics may even be better than those games. Give it a try, definitely worth the purchase to beef up your PS4 collection (since you don't have any games to play as it is), and a very worthy addition to any PS3 game collection. Expand

As a casual gamer, the 10-15 minute sections are perfect for dropping in and out. As most have pointed out, the art style is superb and really makes the game what it is.
The gameplay is mostly rewarding - allowing a range of stealth kills, shooting explosive barrels and going all out with more powerful weapons. It is a satisfying mixture of good timing and good aim. The cover mechanic can be slightly irritating at times but pressing cover usually does what I want it to do. The only annoyance I found was never knowing when the enemies would start calling for backup. Sometimes they see you, sometimes they don't and then call anyway, forcing you to break cover to take them out before the defcon counter moves one notch closer to Armageddon. However I did find this Defcon mechanic really increased the tension making the game feel more rewarding when I finally get to the end of each level.

Playing the partSet in an alternate, and rather more comical, version of the Cold War CounterSpy is a 2d sidescroller with stealth elements. Playing the part of a counter agent players must infiltrate the bases of opposing countries in order to prevent either of them from launching their nuclear weapons at the moon (don’t ask!).
The game is mostly played on a 2D plane but, when taking cover behind objects, the game switches perspective to allow the player to aim their weapon in 3D space. If spotted too often or killed the players DEFCON level will rise. Should it rise to DEFCON 1 the player is then only given a limited amount of time to complete the level before it is game over and you have to start the level over. This mechanic certainly adds a nice level of tension to proceedings which, coupled with the rest of the gameplay and highly stylised visuals, gives the game a unique feel.

One slight let down is the procedurally generated levels. Apparently included to allow the game to be played through multiple times, on the unlockable harder difficulties, all this concept really does is lead to a lot of the levels feeling very similar. New weapons and ability upgrades, unlocked during the levels, do help to somewhat keep things fresh but I can’t help feel it would have been better for each level to have been individually designed.

CounterSpy will likely only take most player a 2-3 hours to complete the first time around (although there are a few difficulty settings) but it’s certainly a lot of fun and well worth playing at the bargain price for which it can be picked up.
