Despite catering to hardcore players and limited gameplay options, CTR Nitro-Fueled successfully rides the nostalgia wave, but I’m not ready to become the drift guru just yet.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a superb kart-racer bogged down by a frustratingly uneven difficulty and a very unstable multiplayer.

A jam-packed remake that looks and sounds brilliant, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a lovingly crafted remake of a much beloved kart racer. Online play and customisation bring it kicking and screaming into the 21st century, but for as fun as the zippy racing is, it sticks perhaps a little too closely to the original model. High difficulty and some unforgiving track design mean this feels slightly dated. However, it's hard not to crack a smile as you drift around familiar tracks, laying down TNT crates, and humming along to the music. Fans will love what Beenox has done, but for everyone else, just be aware of the game's retro tendencies before stepping behind the wheel.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is a gold-standard remaster, capturing the loveably janky, off-brand spirit of classic CTR - and then some. [Eurogamer Essential]

Nostalgia might well have carried this one through, but in truth it doesn’t need it: this is a great game that has for the most part aged remarkably well, with the visual upgrade and other tweaks serving to make absolutely certain it’s worth the price of admission; I just wish the AI didn’t sometimes feel so cheap. It’s rare that a game can be as good as it was 20 years ago in a modern re-release – but this classic kart racer manages it.

However, the game was designed from the ground up to be a grindfest unless you make a bunch of microtransactions to buy Wumpa coins, which really isn't appropriate for a full-price game marketed to children and nostalgia lovers. Very disappointing as it would be a contender for best game of 2019 without that but Activision just inflating their review scores artificially demonstrates that they know this is a reprehensible and predatory practice but choosing to do it anyway. I'll be returning my copy soon as feel completely missold on this. Full Review »

    -Great graphics
-Runs well though it runs and looks better on PS4 Pro.
    -Amazing track design
-25 racers all unlockable for free (no $$$ needed)
-Story mode has been improved and polished
-Future DLCs (tracks, characters) all will be free
    -local Mp is fun.

    Cons:
    -Online mode needs some patches
    - Mediocre form of anti-aliasing
    - Each character does not have a 'SUPER' that would make them more unique.

Mario Kart is overrated. CTR FTW!!!
