From the dawn of creation, the council has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are the Horsemen, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power.

However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.

Darksiders: Genesis is an action/adventure that tears its way through hordes of demons, angels, and everything in-between on its way to Hell and back with guns blazing and swords swinging. Genesis gives players their first look at the world of Darksiders before the events of the original game, as well as introduces the horseman Strife.

"Regardless of if you’ve played every Darksiders game or this is your first one, Darksiders Genesis is worth playing. The characters and combat remain fun and exciting to play even after the credits roll. While some enemies can be annoying, combat never gets dull and new items you earn along the way always make encounters fresh. Amongst the other big titles launching this spring, Darksiders Genesis is one that shouldn’t be missed." ... Read full review

"Darksiders Genesis is a rousing achievement, taking the pillars of the franchise and bringing them to a new genre and perspective. That shift is pulled off almost to perfection, creating one of the better games in the franchise and a satisfying and rewarding combat experience with a lot of meat on its bones. " ... "It’s a fun action-adventure game that builds upon the lore of the series in a way that works pretty well, with interesting combat mechanics and an addictive upgrade system that gave me a good 20 or so hours of playtime. Even now I could go back and clean up some of the collectibles and optional challenges, and still plan to do so at some point. So yeah, I think Darksiders Genesis is certainly worth a look, but you’ll likely get more appreciation out of it if you’re at least familiar with the series up to now." ... Read full review

"Darksiders turns into a top-down hack-and-slash title... and turns out to be all the better for it. Some minor annoyances don't weigh up to the sheer amount of fun this game holds in store for you, solo or in co-op. The deep and varied combat system forms the proverbial cherry on the cake. " ... "Even though I'm a tad disappointed with Darksiders Genesis, there's no denying how solid of a game it is. Plus, it's fantastic that its cooperative component is handled as well as it is because playing it with a chum is definitely the way to go." ... Read full review

"What may have been a solid experience a few years back feels too stale in 2020. Darksiders Genesis is completely competent in its own right, but it doesn't do enough to differentiate itself from previous iterations despite a change in perspective. Combat is a highlight and the Creature Core system provides some depth, however, they're about the only two features we can muster any enthusiasm for." ... Read full review

Not a masterpiece. But this series deserves a good overall score and this will counter any hater zeroes. Game is a 8.5 but a fun one.

It's a great mix of the original Darksiders (it's fascinating how they managed to catch up the exact right moods) and Diablo while loads of signature things re-appear from Airship Syndicate's previous masterpiece Battle Chasers: Nightwar both visually and mechanic-wise.

The game is far from polished (you get stuck in the environment on a regular basis, jumping on/from the ledges could be smoother) but there's so many great ideas and the enjoyment of combat that just made me forgive the game all the flaws. And it just simply looks georgeous. The amount of detail is insane.

Genesis also offers Lots of post-game content including obvious backtracking, apocalyptic difficulty, arenas and over the top platforming challenges in the Void testing both your patience and skill.

For the money we couldn't have asked for more. I salute you Airship Syndicate, looking forward to every next game coming from your studio. Thank you for the experience.

You get quite good content for your money, the variety is nice and the levels are build out innovatively. On the other hand the camera and the controls are horrible which makes the game as a whole less enjoyable. I kind of feel that the 7 is somewhat alright but you gotta have some patience with this game. Thinking about this I feel it is a 6.5 even but I want to see the many good parts that are existent.

I played this on my PS4 Pro with SSD. The loading times are okay-ish. Not good not bad. The visual experience of this game is pretty good but nothing too special at the same time. The game loop is interesting with two swappable characters and numerous skills that you unlock by playing on. I hate that you have to track back if you want the 100% completion. It feels like a waste of time that I didnt decide to do in the end.

I encountered one bluescreen and one load-lock through my playthrough besides that I got perma-stuck three times but the game will kill you after some time. As I said before the camera and controls are horrible. The camera is auto controlled and sometimes the jumping or guessing of plattforming is just insanely frustrating. I also encountered some inverse controls bugs.

The variety and play value is good but the devs should definitely do their homework for another installment because its a waste of effort with just 2 or 3 really bad game decisions they took. I can kinda recommend this game for a decent sale but have some patience and be open minded about it.
